After sitting in a junkyard for 28 years and almost getting sent to the crusher we saved this 84 Ltd station wagon and it is time to clean it up and see what we have to work with. As you will see in the video this car really surprised us by how well it cleaned up and part of that is using these awesome drill mounted brushes that we were sent in our fan mail. We should have been using these tools the whole time, It is incredible how well they clean mold off the seat, door panels, and carpet. Hope this video was enjoyable to you and hopefully you learned something about detailing an old car that has been sitting for years. Let us know in the comments what you think we should do with this car. Thank you for watching.

Hey Josh. Native Detroiter here. Yes Boston Edison is still a nice historic part of Detroit. But I think that car was used by Boston Mass. Edison power company. Our electrical company used to be called Detroit Edison-it's now called DTE. The spotlight and 2 way radio probably made it a supervisors car. Just FYI, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were good friends. Henry Ford actually worked for Edison before he started building cars.

Watching the kids dive in to a project, getting dirty, everyone having a good time.... It truly is a beautiful thing. My family had an 83 wood paneled LTD wagon purchased new - total rattletrap malaise-era POS that died with only 80k miles. It was so bad that everyone in my family swore off Fords for life. I was relieved it died before I started driving - in its later life, it was handed down to my brother and he still affectionately remembers his high school days with the Truckster. That “pleather” burned bare skin in the summer and eventually developed sharp cracks that required caution. I hated that car, but it was fun to see this one being brought back from the dead. There are so few left.

In 1995 or so I bought an '86 LTD II from a woman who worked at a new car dealer; she'd snap up nice trade-ins and flip them. The one I bought had a stack of recent receipts in the glove box for: radiator, exhaust system, battery, brakes, tires, maybe something else. I paid $645 for it. When I got it I found it had a bad throttle position sensor and I think the person who had spent all that money on the car decided enough was enough when it started stalling out and just traded it. I replaced the TPS and the car was awesome. 4 door sedan, V6, loaded with power everything, stereo, tilt, cruise, AC, everything worked, and it wasn't rusted. Ran and drove like a dream, best beater I ever had. Also the front power seats were as comfortable as any I've ever had in a car.

I bought an 86 LTD wagon in 1988 and we drove it for our family car for about 15 years. The only complaint I had was the 3.8 was prone to head gasket failure and I had to replace the gaskets at around 125,000 miles. The heads are aluminum and if they were ever overheated they would warp and couldn't be milled. Fortunately ours never was overheated and the heads were fine. My vote would be to get it running but keep an eye out for coolant in the oil.

Boston Edison was the major power supplier for the northeast for years. They used these cars as repair vehicles and to read electric meters. It makes even more sense that the interiors are in great condition as nobody but the driver rode in them (plus equipment. I’d bet no one ever sat in those back seats. Sleeper would have been in heaven as they had a fleet of these vehicles.

That’s amazing! Hard to believe that it was only ten years old when it was junked. And it’s crazy how it lasted for 28/29 years in that junkyard without being crushed before ya found it. And it’s a Miracle that it sat all that time without really getting torn up or having to many if any parts removed from it.

Love this video - and the car! Just one thing though… don’t use steel wool on the glass or chrome. Steel wool scratches everything. On glass, you’ll see swirls at night, so you especially don’t want to use it on the windshield. On chrome, only use steel wool if the chrome is already wasted. If it looks like it isn’t too bad, just use chrome polish and a soft rag.

WOW! Looks great! One quick tip you may want to consider. This might be hard to do, so if it is, don't stress on it. Depending on how bad the carpets are with rat/mice urine and soil, you might want to research how to remove the seats etc., so you can remove and clean the floor of the vehicle under the carpet urine and other bacteria very well could still be stuck to the original frame of the car. Just a friendly suggestion.

Josh, you and your awesome family rescued a really beautiful car. That's the new Wagon Queen Family Truckster! LOL.... Seriously, I love the Fox wagons. My buddy had a 1983 Granada wagon with the 3.8L V6 back in the day, I loved that car. There was one idiot light on the dashboard. He drove it hundreds of miles with the CHECK ENGINE light lit - I got into it, drove it to the store, and I could tell immediately that it was overheating - stuck thermostat, wheeled into Canadian Tire for a replacement and did it in the parking lot. I was thinking about what would be involved in changing head gaskets. Cast iron heads and block, the engine took the abuse and survived with not even an oil leak.
Oh, and near and dear to your heart, the Granada had a trailer hitch. And towed a 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme home after a failed safety inspection.

I only recently tripped over you and your quirky family videos, then got addicted to them. I have seen cars from my childhood of 73 years ago, I thought I'd never see again.
Then Sleeperdude came along and lit my fire.
    Now, I have a request.
Please find a '53 Hudson Hornet' and maybe even a 'Tucker' and put'em back together.
My dad had a Hudson when I was 9 or 10 and after the transmission failed, and they could not match up another transmission with the right spline, I turned it into my summer bedroom.
I always wanted to get that car fixed and back on the road, but alas, it never happened.
So now I ask the Sleeperdude and his quirky family to acquire one, if you can, before my time on Earth has expired. I'm in your corner and recommending you to as many as I can. Sharing every video on Gab and X and always clicking the thumbs up. Thank you for such interesting and fascinating entertainment, although I'm trying to NOT talk like a Tennessean after watch so much of you dudes. (grins) 🚗

Krud kutter works really good at removing all that gunk from cars too. When I bought my 87 Ford Ranger a couple years ago, it apparently had sat under a tree, the hood and cab roof was covered in sap and just black nasty dirt and grime from sitting, pressure washer wouldn't get it all off either. I bought a bottle of Krud Kutter, figuring the paint was already trashed because of the way the cab and hood looked, but sprayed it down with the Krud Kutter and let it sit for about 10 minutes, then the pressure washer got all that stuff off and the paint is in pretty good condition for an almost 36 year old truck and 127k miles on it
These older vehicles are so simple, not much to go wrong like with today's vehicles full of electronic gadgets.
