      She's not figuring out what Aemond had done (at least not *just* that). She's thinking everything she's done was for nothing. She sabotaged Rhaenyra's ascension for her son just so she herself would be put on the side because of her sex the same way she did Rhaenyra.

    Baela setting Corlys straight about Princess Rhaenys. She wasn;t only his wife, but a Targaryen princess, her Grandmother, The Queen that Never Was, and she volunteered to go to Rooks Rest and died a Dragon Rider as she wanted to as well, not at sea as the heir to Driftmark, but an heir of Fire and Blood.

    the small council scene with alicent is the standout of the episode 100%. Also the symbolism of criston sharpening his sword (a symbol of violence and also a phallic symbol) while talking to and basically ignoring alicent was particularly on the nose

    Kinda sad they tore down the High Tide set but it is understandable. It isn't really needed this season and they can use the space for different sets.

      made so much sense when they pulled him out, I went back and forth in my mind that it was the corpse of Rhaenys but not showing the people of Kings Landing his burnt body was a nice touch!the end scene is a bit cool though, thinking they can get new riders!

      Yeah when Sunfyre falls out of the sky you can see him angle himself to fall on his (injured) stomach to protect Aegon from the fall showing how much the dragons care for their riders

      He's a great actor, but in my opinion, he's given one of the weaker performances ever since the show started.
      Emma, Rhys, Paddy, Olivia, Tom, Eve... all put him to shame. All make him look not as engaging.
      Though I suspect it's because the writers hate Daemon and want him to be a villain. That may affect his acting.

    Wales is a beautiful country. The Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia are a sight to behold and that's not even mentioning the countless historic castles that still exist. If you ever visit the UK, definitely try and visit the likes of Caernarfon and Conwy Castle, they're incredible.

    I worked on the location side when the production moved to North Wales and it’s grand to hear the importance the producers and HoD’s hammered for the environmental welfare and prospects here. They even shot at my family’s heritage site for the Daemon parley scene this ep.

      That’s why I always laugh when people complain about it looking bad or the show I lazy about costumes or whatever. Like yes, characters will wear the same clothes in multiple scenes, but the amount of detail that goes into every piece of clothing is great.
      Like people were saying Aegons armor looked bad, and people can have opinions. But watching the people that built it talk about the process and thought behind it makes me respect the outcome a lot more.
      I really wish everyone would watch these behind the scenes episodes cause they really show just how hard these people work

      Yup. She was beautiful, how I imagine a Valyrian princess would be. However, Daemon has some issues. Serious issues. And so does Aemond. I mean, I know Aegon is gonna make me hate him in the future but rn I feel for him. Also, the final showdown between Daemon and Aemond is gonna be just awesome- probably two of the darkest characters in the whole show going head to head in a deathmatch. I can't wait to see that scene.

    Can we also take a minute to appreciate the thousands of hours of hard work, care and detail that has gone into creating the sets, armour and costumes.
    It's all so magnificent. And of course the many VFX artists for bringing it all to life as well.
    Kudos to all the talented artists, craftspeople cast and crew, on both sides of the cameras. HotD is a true epic! 🍻☺️

    I really like the Brackens, they hate the Blackwoods so much that they refuse to bent the knee to Daemon because the Blackwoods serve him, even if Daemon is threatening them with his dragon.
    They're like: "F*ck you, f*ck your dragon and specially f*ck the Blackwoods, we choose fire!"
    You gotta respect their defiance.

      Sadly, this episode was heavily inconsistent.
      Very weak.
      And not only because it's a cool down episode, as the shallow like to masquerade it as, but just an overall weak one for the show.
      The editing at the end of the episode was just messy and downright pissed me off.

    I petition HBO to rebuild the set for Driftmark only because I cannot get the moment of Sir Ian McKellen crying his eyes out because he’s stuck in a green screen room with very little to go off of, CGI will NEVER replace tangible, physical sets and production companies need to stop thinking it will 😡😤😡😤

    I have enjoyed the episode, its intensity, psychology and photography. In some scenes the image tells the story and/or is just beautiful or impactful: Caraxes' big head behind the Bracken, Alicent's breath and eye side, Aemond in front of the Iron Throne while storming... Brilliant

      They don’t care who the dragon. It’s just the fact they killed a dragon when the common folk basically see them as gods. Remember that Targaryens are seen as higher than anyone in Westeros and so are the dragons.

      Watch the Dracarys scene again-- at 10:38 see how Aegon lifts his left arm to protect himself, while Sunfyre turns his head to protect Aegon's right side, and the left side gets exposed to the dragonfire.

    18:14 is Dragon Stone Castle designed the way it is so dragons can stand perched on the thin flat parts that jut out the sides? A shot i hope we get to see that would be so awesome is multiple dragons standing on those wedges of the castle as a noblepersons crew and/or army rolls up to it, imhonaf.

    Why would they dismantle the Hall of Nine set when it was so beautifully made and they knew that location might be needed again?
    Who would make such an awful decision?

      Because they don't have the space to keep a set that big standing for one scene in season 2. They had to build a complete Harrenhal set and increase the size of Dragonstone. I thought that would be obvious! Way to reveal you have no idea how production works on these shows...jeez!

    More sword fights would be nice, you know, 1v1's like the original GoT had. Dragons are cool an all but I feel like we're missing swords in HotD

      Except the Dance of Dragons has virtually no 1 v 1s, apart from the Cargyll fight. Most of it is big set piece battles and dragon fights, so i'd lower your expectations, mate.

      Aegon the Conquerer had a set during the Conquest, so they had that one set at the beginning of their Reign over Westeros in book canon at least, dunno if Aegon II was meant to have that same set or not

      @@Imsohighrightnow2 Nope, in book cannon Aegon had a Valyrian steel circlet (little tiara-like crown). Euron Greyjoy has the only known set of Valyrian steel armor.
      It's a big deal because, just like the swords, the upgrade is a destabilizing advantage to the bearer. If the Targaryens had such armor, It would have been written about just like Dark Sister and Blackfyre. Rhaegar would have worn it at the Trident. It might have given him the winning edge over Robert Baratheon.

    They need to film in South Africa. Not just because I'm here (lol), but because we have some of the most beautiful and majestic naturescapes in the world. Can't believe they haven't already.

      @@marksaunders3723 Fair enough, but although the ASOIAF universe was based on medieval Europe, it still isn't actually medieval Europe. It's a fictional universe, and King's Landing certainly isn't like London in any way. South Africa could certainly work for some locations. I wish they'd used it for Dorn in Game of Thrones, for example.

GRRM based Westeros on medieval Britain and Europe, so why would they film in SA, that clearly doesn't resemble it in any way?

      @@marksaunders3723 There is at least one castle still standing, and as far as I'm aware they don't always film at actual castles. Again, whether it was based on medieval Britain or not, it's still a fictional world with fictional countries, and they don't do most filming in Britain anyway. But yeah, Spain would potentially be cheaper. I could still see it working though, but we can agree to disagree.

      @@queenlilaerys13 Actually, nearly all the filming is in the UK. The studio interiors are at Leavesden in Watford, most exterior stuff has filmed in Wales, Cornwall, Hertfordshire and the Lake District and they do actually use certain castles for battlement scenes. Caceres in Spain is King's Landing. SA just doesn't have the right look and now would look completely out of place as a Westeros stand-in and far too expensive. Sorry.
