I just found out on Google that fishes can have depression just like humans. Edit: Ik other animals can have too, but wow I didn't know about plants.
All living things have emotional lives. Plants respond in fear to human activity like cutting.

I've been fish keeping for over 20 years and I have never seen a fish change colors so dramatically. I'm so glad this woman saved him and made him well again. He really is beautiful!
i looked it up and it is quite normal for black moores to turn gold as they age.
Black moor goldfish are dark in color when juvenile. When they mature with good care they turn gold. Sadly a lot of goldfish land into improper care due to which this is quite unknown to most people.
Her kindness was rewarded with the sick fish's complete recovery and transformation into a happy beautiful creature.
Nothing to do with switching to a diet high in carotenoids then?
It’s not unusual for goldfish to lose their darker color as they age.

Not only did you bring him back to health but you actually know how to care for him. As a goldfish owner myself I see tons of videos and pictures of over crowding, wrong tank mates and tank size. Beautiful chonks and great job!

I had a fish that used to love being petted by my girlfriend (the only one able to). One day while I was at work I got a frantic call from her saying he was having some kind of siesure and was darting all over the tank upside down and could hear the horror in her voice. It died that day and we have no idea why. It still brings tears to my eye not only for the fish, but for her and her 2 small daughters that had to watch it
@@johnbryan2414 Oh my goidness, I am so sorry to hear that. I feel for her (and her kids), doesn't matter how small, when you love something and you see it suffering as you watch helplessly is a very traumatic experience. I too had a fish (Beta) that loved to be petted. 🥰 also had my lovebird have what looked like a heart attack then just died in my hands. I was completely unconsolable. God Bless all living creatures!

What a lovely lady! I rescued a fancy goldfish from someone who no longer wanted him many years back. He was calico colored. Within 6 months, all of the black had disappeared, and he was left with just a pearly white and orange color. Now I have 4 rescue comet goldfish. They are great little pets, each with their own personality!
what causes the black? If unhealthy they just can't produce the gold??

@KindCountsDeb3773 Not at all! It actually has nothing to do with health. Black is simply a very genetically unstable color in goldfish, and black goldfish often change color as they age or if their water chemistry changes.

What a beautiful creature! Again and again I'm shocked how little pet shops care about the wellbeing of the animals they are supposed to take care of and make a living out of. Thank you Lacey for caring!
There are bad pet stores, sure. This fish, though, if you listen closely to the video, was surrendered to the pet store. So they did a good deed by accepting him and putting him on display for someone to rescue.
This is why we shouldn’t support pet shops bc they don’t care about the fish / animals. Once we stop the abuse stops! I’m in love with Monstro’s transformation & love seeing him finally happy. Bless this woman ❤
It wasn’t the pet shop that neglected him; he was surrendered to the pet shop and they took him in to be adopted out. The pet shop did a good thing.

Well… I don’t think it’s really a “thing” to adopt older fishes. Like, not from a shelter or rescue st least. I think she saw him at a badly-run pet store and decided she’d be his rescuer, albeit the next day. And these goldfish are survivors believe it or not, so he lived long enough to be saved and to see his new home! So, it is a thing, I guess, to rescue sick or older fish- if you’re in the right place at the right time? Lol.
@@erikm8372...You're right. I just wasn't sure how to really phrase that part about "a thing". Lol. I was just surprised that a pet store would still have a fish that old after so many years. I've never heard of that before, but I don't go into pet stores much anymore. I'm glad they did still have him, though, and she was able to save him and let him flourish into what he was meant to be.

We adopted two pond coy from a closing mall over 20 years ago. They were absolutely massive and very friendly. It's a thing.

The aquarium hobby can be problematic, and as as a fish keeper I can say I have made some terrible mistakes myself in the past. Most important to spread the message that if you are going to do it, always do your research and never keep anything that is beyond your means to keep properly. Gold fish are much abused, usually because they are not provided adequate space. Good luck with the kitties. I have two from a shelter myself. 😸👍.

@@electraruby4078 it would be great if those ideals always aligned but I’ve come from years of experience with exotic pets and so many times I’ve seen the best intentions (e.g. love) combined with zero idea on what the creature actually needs to thrive, infact sometimes quite the opposite ‘it looks happy’ (then it quickly dies).
@@sjl197 I agree with you about the unsuitability of having exotic pets 100%! In fact owning any pet is not ideal as animals should live wild and natural lives.But in the instance of this fish the love and care it was given is appropriate.
@@electraruby4078 Dogs, cats, and other common pets have been kept for so long that they cannot live without humans. Goldfish have become an invasive species because people are releasing them into places in the wild. So no, some animals do not need to live in the wild with "natural lives".

Beautyful fish! Goldfish are able to reach an age of more than 30 years, many people don't know that. I have six goldies in my garden pond, every fish has a different character, that's amazing!

I think he did his color change to tell you, "you are pure gold, woman !" Some people would say, it's just a fish, so glad you didn't ! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
He did his colour change because he's a Black Moore Japanese goldfish. They all eventually turn gold into adulthood, I have them and they are beautiful fish. She definitely saved his life though, he was depressed. Mine are rescues too and full of parasites when babies in a pet shop. Now thriving adults going through the colour change ❤

We felt that way about all our pond fish and frogs… until Big Blue a heron came and ate everything. My family cried forever.
Similar with a (grey) heron when I was a kid in UK. We gave the few surviving fish away to friends and filled the pond in. I don't blame the heron - it was just doing heron!
I almost had a heart attack when I looked at my pond and saw 2 young hawks sitting on a rock with water splashed all around... I thought for sure they got a fish, or my frog friend.
Thankfully not.
I moved to a more dangerous area (for the fish) where a heron, hawk, eagle, or otter would grab them so I keep them in a basement pond now.
Last year a blue heron came by and ate ALL the young frogs out of a little pond next to my house in a matter of days.
I want a pond; but worry about that. What about putting fencing over it?
Oh well its the circle of life I guess.

I wish I had a Lacy in my life. Everyone needs a nurturer in their lives like Lacy, luckily I have my mom but she's aging and won't be around for long. That's one truly lucky fish to have been found by an angel.
Fish have feelings too, it's just sad a majority of people are incapable of processing that. I am so grateful there's empathetic people like her out there.
I can't stand when people say that a fish cannot love you like other pets. They absolutely can and do. They are a lot smarter than what people give them credit for.
My sweet betta has learned his name, will chase me across his tank when he even sees me wall in or even down the hall! I call for him in the morning and he does a very happy little "dance" when he sees me. He's in a heated, filtered, and planted large tank, where he's made himself a lovely little hammock of plants to lay on against one of his driftwood pieces. Right now the theme of his tank is a sunken forest. (The last one was Jurassic Park themed!)
He's the most mild mannered betta I've ever owned and having him here is an absolute joy, and he brightens my day whenever he comes out to greet me in the morning. 🐟

I've had many beautiful goldfish over the years. They are such friendly and sweet pets. Maybe someday I can have a pond but it would have to be indoors because of predators and the Florida heat. Thanks for sharing Monströs story.🧸😇

After a number of years Sparky, our goldfish, weakened and seemed to be gasping for oxygen. I held it between my fingers and rushed it through the water on a scheduled basis. After a few days it came back to full health and lived many more years.
