    I like how Frieren's weakness is essentially like an experienced boxer that blinks every time they throw their punch. She's durable and hits hard so not most other fighters will be able to notice or even take advantage of it, but certain skilled individuals can abuse it regardless of of the power difference.
    Also Serie, going through her 5 stages of grief in that scene.

    Kudos to you guys. You're the only reactors I've seen that immediately picked up on the fact that Serie was upset that Flamme had died instead of hyperfixating on the way she speaks and assuming she didn't care about Flamme. It baffles me how people literally see Serie talking about baby Flamme to Frieren with a smile and remembering holding her hand and they still conclude, "wElP, sHe dIdN't cArE aBoUt hEr."

    • @djx7134
      @djx7134 Před měsícem +10

      Because characters like Serie rarely appear in anime, which tends to make everything obvious as possible. Here, Serie keeps a poker face and says mean things (as in, she isn't making sad faces at the "camera" whenever Frieren isn't looking). You have to use context clues to determine the truth. It's the bare minimum, but I think when people watch anime in particular they expect to be spoon fed. It's the only reason I can think of for so many people misunderstanding this scene, because while it's subtle by anime standards, overall, it really isn't.
      I think people who don't watch that much anime would have a better chance of reading it right. That's my theory, anyway.

    • @jmhaces
      @jmhaces Před měsícem +4

      @@djx7134 I agree with you, though I still find it kind of baffling because you'd assume after 25 episodes more people would've caught on to the fact that this show doesn't do things like most anime and it doesn't spoon-feed you the info.
      It's like this one person who got pissed off at me for "spoiling" that Lernen was Ehre's granddad because the show had never hinted at it and they were assuming I was using info I had from reading the manga. But I wasn't. I'd simply noticed that Ehre told Wirbel back during the Stille test that she could introduce him to her grandfather who was a First Class mage and he could arrange his/their trip back home, so that meant the guy was in town and the only First Class mage we'd seen who was old enough to have granddaughters was the mage who allowed Frieren to take the test because he knew what her holy emblem was, so I assumed that he was her granddad.
      Then at the start of the second test Sense mentioned that her colleague Lernen made the escape golems, and I assumed it was also him because the other First Class mages we'd seen were either the current proctors or that one guy with glasses who didn't seem the kind to give a crap if the test-takers died and acted very similar to Genau.
      And later on they make clear that the oldest First Class mage is in fact called Lernen and then they show a couple of throwaway shots in a later episode that last just a couple of seconds that verify he likes magic that conjures golems and that he is Ehre's grandfather.
      Even if we ignore that, from a narrative standpoint, there couldn't possibly be any plot twist in the future of the show that hinges on you not realizing Ehre is related to Lernen, this person literally watched the whole season and then argued that I spoiled that relationship because they'd supposedly never hinted at it, despite all the clues they included. It's just that since it's not this really important plot point, most people simply miss it because they don't pay attention and the show never included a scene where Ehre and Lernen literally call each other family and explicitly establish their relationship.

    • @djx7134
      @djx7134 Před měsícem +2

      @@jmhaces But they didn't have an arrow pointing onscreen to Lernen with a subtitle that read "Ehre's Grandfather", so obviously it was impossible to figure out.
      Though Frieren is a little better than most anime when it comes to exposition, there are still a number of clunky scenes with awkward exposition, with characters explaining things to other characters that should already know. And it's not especially subtle. Even this scene should be clear to anyone paying attention.

    i wonder how long Serie has been around, she was talking about human civilization as a whole like it was something more recent than herself, that's mental.
    Also a cool detail, in the flashback Serie says "we can wait a century or two before making a decision, even waiting a thousand years poses non problems" and after a thousand years she founded the continental magic association to basically nurture human mages, so, after a thousand years of thinking, se decided to grant Flamme's will.
    She still only wants to teach people with talent, so there's an exam, but she's teaching them nonetheless.

    • @HugoSlobbya
      @HugoSlobbya Před měsícem +4

      slight anime spoiler:
      I like to think Flamme had the same sympathy as Lernen: she didn't want Serie to be alone and knew how happy she was taking her on as a student. So I think Flamme asking Serie to take over the magic association was so Serie would meet more talented human mages and potential apprentices

    • @jmhaces
      @jmhaces Před měsícem +3

      I took it to mean that she took those thousand years to come up with a way to grant Flamme's wish without compromising her own values. Instead of making magic totally accesible like Flamme wanted, she created an association that regulates magic and makes sure than only the really talented rise to the top. That way she could grant Flamme's wish that she take over humanity's magic for her, while still ensuring that magic was something special and she would only train those with talent who she felt deserved it and were worth her time.

    • @djx7134
      @djx7134 Před měsícem +4

      @@jmhaces Serie's idea is far more practical. Everyone having magic would be too dangerous. It'd be like if everyone walked around with an arsenal of invisible weapons. An absolute nightmare for civilization.
      Flamme still got her wish because folk magic is basically just regular people coming up with their own spells. Most are silly and "useless", but powerful spells like the life lock (what Frieren's replica used on the door) or Jilwer were created by random unsupervised humans.

    The fight choreography in this show is so top tier. Frieren and the clone start off by predicting each others attacks by setting up a defensive magic wherever the opposing opponents staff is pointing (thus the jittery defensive magic at the beginning). Both using Judrajim, a quick lightning spell that travels fast. Then using Volzanbel last second to push themselves away from the falling pillar and attack simultaneously.
    Even back in the fight against Qual some details only make sense when you watch this far in. In the last episode, Edel mentions there are 2 ways to deal with modern defensive magic. You can either skillfully slip through it or hit hard enough to break it. Qual starts of by trying to skillfully slip through by bombarding Fern with a flurry of attacks. He then notices that one of Fern's shields brake, meaning that Zoltraak can pierce through it with enough damage. So he quickly swaps to blasting Fern with one big attack. It was successful as we see Ferns first layer of defensive magic break but luckily Frieren was done charging up. Qual was no pushover and was seconds away from catching up to the 80 year gap.

    I don't know if you guys noticed but Frieren doesnt hate Serie and vise versa, it's just they don't see eye to eye when it comes to Magic. And that includes Flamme. For Serie, Magic is a tool for war, a tool to kill. Hence she praised the old human guy that she trained saying it was wasteful for his talents since he's only human and that he couldve been well known if he was born during a time of war w the Demonking.
    Flamme and Frieren and now even Fern enjoy Magic just for the heck of it. All those "useless" spells that Serie hated bcause for her it's a waste of talent😂
    Flamme wanted everyone including Humans to know about Magic and enjoy it. Whereas for Serie, she wanted only the special ones to master or use it. It's also why she was somewhat insulted when Flamme said that Frieren would defeat the Demon king and start an era of peace asking why not her. Flamme said that Serie could never imagine a time where there is no war

    • @jmhaces
      @jmhaces Před měsícem +1

      Yeah, she even urged Frieren to keep training so that, if she happened to die in battle, it would be at the hands of a powerful foe like the Demon King or a really strong human mage. It's clear Serie, despite the tsundere denial, was hit hardest by Flamme's passing. She's basically a mother who lost a daughter, and continues to be in mourning centuries after her passing. She has a cordial but slightly strained relationship with Frieren, who is basically her grand-daughter disciple and the only elf so far in her descendant apprentices. That's because Frieren also represents the fundamental disagreement Flamme had with Serie regarding the question of what magic is and should be to the world.
    Frieren is Flamme's philosophy and conviction made flesh. And her nigh-immortal lifespan and continued insistence on how right Flamme was goes against some of Serie's own core beliefs.

    It's hard to get a good read on Serie. It's clear that she doesn't like Frieren and that Frieren doesn't like her much either.
    But when Serie told Frieren that it's either the demon king or a human mage that would kill her, I also understood that as Serie saying she doesn't even consider that her and Frieren could ever fight each other.

    • @jmhaces
      @jmhaces Před měsícem

      Yes, but I'd argue that they don't really dislike each other. They just disagree to the point that they struggle to get along. But neither of them would spit on Flamme's memory by actually fighting the other and to both of them the idea of killing the other is as absurd as the idea of either of them killing Flamme.

    • @djx7134
      @djx7134 Před měsícem +1

      They wouldn't fight because for Serie it would be abusive and bullying, and Frieren won't bother fighting someone she has a 0% chance of winning against.
      Basically, the situation is as follows (IMO): Serie is frustrated that the only other person (that we know of) who could become a true equal to her is instead content to wander aimlessly and gather goofy spells like some sort of hippie sorceress. She sees the human mages trying their hardest but being limited by their relatively short lifespans. She wishes one of them could live as long as Frieren does. She also wants Frieren to become her ultimate student and right hand (my opinion). A talented person who can live practically forever? That would be a dream come true. But she knows that Frieren just lacks the temperament and will never change. To her, it's a tragic waste of talent and longevity on a personality type that will never make use of either.
      To Frieren, Serie is just someone she disagrees with, but respects. I think Serie cares about Frieren far more than the inverse. That probably pisses her off, too.

    Next episode will show that you (like all of us) underestimated Frieren extremely. In 1x10 she used 2 words to kill Auta. In the next episode we will see that one look from Frieren would have been enough too.

    Estou muito ansioso para o próximo episódio, 26 é meu numero e tenho vários "episódios 26" como meus favoritos, Frieren me fez sentir emoções que fazia tempo que animes no geral não me faziam sentir, sem dúvidas pra mim é o meu anime favorito da temporada atual, acho difícil sair algum melhor esse ano e se sair vai ser um puta anime foda pra conseguir desbancar a Maga Idosa

    I request you to react on No Game No Life after Fieren Beyond Journey's End. It's a mind-blowing and fantastic anime and the opening is beautiful. I highly insist you react on it or at least give it a thought.

    "An age in which anyone can use magic? That's not what I want. Magic should be Special!"
    "In the end....Flamme and I never did understand each other."
    Translation: Serie thought of Flamme as Special...and her alone...
    Flamme wanting everyone to be special, would just make them the same as her...which Serie Never would've wanted.
    To Serie...Flamme was special...in every way a daughter could be....

      There's also the fact that everyone having magic would be an unmitigated disaster. At least in our real world. I wouldn't want it to be widely accessible either were I someone in a position of authority.

    [14:36] "Serie was offended at the though of humans being able to learn all this magic too, because she obviously sees it as something special and it's like her whole life."
    I don't think Serie is not so much offended at the thought of HUMANS being able to learn magic as she is by the thought of UNTALENTED people (regardless of race really) learning magic. To her it's not about the race, she's not an elven supremacist, she simply doesn't like for everyone to have it even when they don't care about it and are as talented as she is. Maybe that's actually what you meant when you said this but I think it's an important distinction to make. 🙂

    I feel Frieren and Serie are both bad with feelings, but in different ways. Frieren often seems unaware of her own feelings and struggles to understand others. Serie definitely feels for others, but because she knows she will outlive most she makes connections with, she tries to convince herself that she doesn't care, because she doesn't want to get hurt by the loss.

      Serie is a lot more emotional. Frieren legitimately has stunted emotions despite being a decent person. In reality, 500 years living alone in the woods, and you'd be a complete mess. Barely even human (or human-like). I assume she traveled sometimes and went into town to talk to people, but even so, having no one of significance in your life for hundreds of years would be a disaster.
