Me, in Alaska, hearing "north of Barrow": you mean the ocean?
😂😂
“He means the ocean???”😂🤣
No the ice wall
So far I'm loving this story. There's something about Alaska that makes you feel like anything is possible up there in those isolated frozen little towns. I've never been to Alaska but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live up there. I know it's rough, and hard living but sometimes I wonder if it's more fulfilling... ya know? Eh I dunno...
I totally get you! Like I know I probably couldn't make it up there the way I am now, but if I imagine I was raised out there and conditioned to live in those elements...yeah I bet in a lot of ways it's very gratifying. My toddlers love Molly of Denali on PBS (if you've ever heard of it), I know it has to downplay some of the harsher realities to living in Alaska because it's a children's show but because the 10 yr old main character is an Alaskan native, you do learn a lot of really cool things about the history of some of the native tribes and their traditions and different ways of survival. Princess Daazhraii Johnson is a creative producer and writer for the show. She has been a member of the SAG-AFTRA National Native Americans Committee since 2007 and lives in Fairbanks, Alaska. So she knows what she's talking about. Sorry I'm a little nuts about knowing the details of the shows/media my toddlers watch.👩👧🕵🏻♀️👩🏻💻 LOL. Anyways my point is, shows like that plus other movies or docs too, and obviously stories like these definitely peak my interest!!! 30 Days of Night anyone?! 🍿🧛🏻♀️ Encounters of the 4th Kind perhaps?!? 🛸🌌🤭
The Thing??🐕🦺🐙 Sry I'm done.
@@catherineervin2630 For sure! It's weird I haven't seen that show b4, I have a crazy 3 year old daughter and I'm a stay at home Dad. So normally I'm the one who knows all the kids shows lol. Yeah my daughter would love something like that! And good calls on those movies, love em all! Especially the thing, although that takes place in Antarctica, same idea though lol. I'm a huge horror/urbanlegends/creepypasta fan, I'm prolly gonna make a Thing short on my channel next after I put out my next long video in a few days.
But yeah I can't help but dream about going to far away places sometimes. I live in the PNW so I'm not to far from Alaska anyways and I do have some wilderness knowledge but not enough to be alright up there lol. I'd love to learn though. I'm definitely gonna check out that show with my little one though!
(If you wanna see *my* little lady she has a cameo at the very very end of all of my longer videos)
@@catherineervin2630 lmao I have a 4 yr old daughter and a new 2 week old daughter❤️😂 we watch Molly a lot. We also only have about 5 channels unless we use netflix though so between ion or pbs its pbs when you have a toddler lmao I always catch myself watching it and am glad some of those shows are kinda interesting because I would have lost my mind long ago if not. . ehh 🤭🤔 maybe thats the problem actually, I think I did lose it long ago 😂
@@Nyctonaut I went to check out your channel and am already subbed lol knew your name sounded familiar 😆
@@Nyctonaut It's pretty good as far as a safe and educational show, I know my eldest daughter (5yrs) is definitely a bit more into it than my youngest daughter (2.5 yrs). I think it's geared towards a bit older age group but you never know, your 3 yr old might like it now! PBS has tons of good content for all ages.
You're totally right btw, The Thing does take place in the Antarctica. 🤦🏻♀️ I should know that, I've seen both versions multiple times and own them! LOL. I've even read the book it's based off, Who Goes There. Great read. But yeah, to the untrained eye the settings are very similar. Like you said, those kind of far from the "civilized world" places definitely give a anything can happen vibe. Like at any moment you might encounter a cryptid or some lovecraftian type horror or something. I love it!!!🧟♀️🏞️🧭
I've got some outdoor survival knowledge myself from hunting and growing up on a farm but I'm from the Midwest. Very different terrain and climates, I'm sure, from what you are familiar with in your location. I'd love to visit all kinds of climates and cultures too. Places that would almost seem to be from another world. If only I had the money to visit them all. 🌍🌎🌏
I'll definitely check out your channel and subscribe! Always down to support other parents if I can!!
I used to live in dead horse Alaska, prudhoe bay Alaska, on the Buford sea, arctic ocean. I miss the north.
I liked this one a lot! The protagonist absolutely is a bonafide winner of the Darwin Award of this Century! Such an idiot! For the little crime he committed, to go where he did? He sealed his fate worse than going to prison for life. And why didn’t he ever open a crate? There could’ve been anything in there. And both of the guys who actually knew what was happening got killed due to his stupidity. A great story nonetheless!! 👍👍👍👍
This one was great it really made me feel like something was watching me in my room while i had the lights off.
I don’t need any help for that feeling

This is a good story. Though the only thing north of Utqiagvic(formerly Barrow) is ocean. It's really hard to listen to stories about Alaska when you actually live here. People get sooo much so wrong.
I'm with you on that. Especially when it comes to roads that never existed. It seems they wrote this without even thinking to look at a map.
Same for me living in hawaii.. i feel ya
@@fovosprodromus5020 I'm moving to Oahu in July!
@@bunnybootsink9258 I understand where you're coming from, but in a fictional story, why not have fictional roads and places?
@@starlightcelebi6515 Then why not use a fictional city instead of only going halfway. I can suspend reality to an extent but there is a limit to what I can ignore when I lived and worked in the region in the past.
The issue is lore consistency for writing a story and if you are going to use the modern world, you need to stay constant to lore or give a reason why that is no longer constant to the known lore during your setup. This is the number one failure for any writer who uses reality or another fictions world as a basis for their story.
we need another like this but it's like eight hours long and is basically a whole series In one video kinda like humper monkey narrated by Deadman talking I think

good story but waited till the end of the video see how the protag ended up killing people at the start of the story so he would end up running away what did I miss that part?
Nice and creepy!
I honestly didn’t think you can get to Barrow by car. I guess in the warmer seasons maybe? Never lived there, but the awesome film “30 Days of Night” was filmed there. Also I thought it was just 30 days of, well, night? I’m just enjoying the story.
I thought they had a night that last 6 months. of course it's only from heresy I don't have any first hand knowledge of the northern part of North American

GREAT STORY!!!! I HAVE THE GREATEST TIME LISTENNING 2 U!!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!! THANK U SO MUCH!!!!
So 30 days of night then?
excellent narration.
Great story but I wish there was a reason for them to even be there. Keeping lights on due to monsters isnt a great plan if the only reason you are even in monster territory is to keep the lights on to keep away the monsters. Just leave the place with monsters and return when there is actual work to do rather than just keeping the lights on
The protagonist is that guy who messes up everything for everyone else other than him.
As Nocturn says. Embrace the darkness.
GREAT INTRO 3 SEC.,S!!!

So... he got in and didnt close the door behind him? After being scared for his life? Lmao
As an alaskan. Can confirm

This protagonist just sucks at everything in life lol
What a great story, though. Seriously
This has to be in the barrow area it's the only place I know of here that's dark for two months. It can also reach about 80 below in wind chill no thank you. I prefer my midnight sun. The Alaska ones creep me out the most
10 minute gang
For the writer, there are no public roads to Barrow and all ice roads are run and managed by the oil companies or native corperations that do connect the arctic villages. Also winter time is when it becomes the most active because the frozen tundra allows for more work to get done versus the summer when all of that tundra becomes a swamp. Writers that want to write about the arctic north might do some good actually looking at a map for a bit and make sure some of the basic elements like interconnection roads exist.
Why? It's a fictional story. They can write whatever they want.
@@trevor3013 They can and I can criticize it how ever I want also. I like the concept of the story and I would like to see it return in an improved manner that would not feel like someone just decided not to look at a map when thinking up the story when one should be warranted. This would have been better if it was left to using a completely fictional village at this point or completely removing it being north of Fairbanks if they wanted to keep it on a public access road network. I'm not even going to comment on asking how the guy got past the national borders without talking to border guards.

The night gnashes and bites at those who lurk in the light. But when all lights go out, it’s hunger is unquenchable, and it’s sadistic joy in toying with its prey is free for months until the weak morning raises again.
That's why I would never take a job on the northern alaskan slope too much darkness in the winter way too cold strange creatures stays dark from November til February mid February sunrise for 10 mins then darkness til March I rather live in anchorage I'm a 2 time alaskan resident

Are they still hiring?
all I know is the main dude pisses me off.
"Meh" to the ending, and to the hillbilly gibberish in general.
Too many 'wrong' details...makes listening to the story hard. There's nothing north of Utqiagvik but Arctic Sea. Any 'silently maintained' warehouse in such an area with such creatures would have AMPLE security (redundant power systems, electrified fences, etc.), and the people manning such a station would be HIGHLY 'weapons qualified'...whether it's mafia, cartels, corporations or 'government' operated...the whole time, Mr. 'Ran to the Ends of the Earth to get away from life' would BE HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be the 'last survivor standing' in such a seige. All this, combined, makes the story 'great setting...bad set up' overall.
hmmmmm-I .... could be the best story every but oh that got annoying quick.
Wtf
I loved this story but holy heeellll the protagonist is dumb. The most he would have faced was 1-5 years in prison or a huge fine. Instead he ran away and sealed not just his fate but the fate of two others and more
It is infuriating how "incorrect" this story is. Nome is'nt dark for only 2 months..It is dark for 6 !!! Due to Nome being near the north pole.
Ruined the 666 likes thing
So conflicting when that happens.

Good lord, this MC was a walking L. Just messing everything up.
I'm sorry, but I hated the main character in this one so much.
Stop doing the hmmmm before trying to make a dialogue more gritty it totally ruined the story for me
No Ending ? I truly hate these no ending stories ! I honestly don't understand why people even publish these things, never mind why others read them out. It wasn't even a bad one, it was worth finishing, but here once more I am with half a story. Why ? Wouldn't it be better to just leave these half assed stories on the shelf where they belong ? Sorry to be so annoyed, but honestly I'm just tired of this nonsense.
This man slow asf. I dont like him
Man.. the MC is so annoying..
Nice story, but the useless screw up empty-headed urbanite trope is tiresome and overdone. Actually, it's practically feminine. The part where he trips and has to be rescued is when I just got fed up, he's like an inanimate object.
And the way it ends it's like he still doesn't realize his role in getting everyone killed. I mean like, this place has existed for how long? And somehow he shows up, and the next day everyone just happens to get killed. Hmmmm, coincidence?
Can’t handle anything next
