Spot on for me !! I'm just getting into lighting setups, particularly 2 lights. Really looking into 3 lights with power settings. Great video, thank you.
Excellent video, funny and informative. I personally start from the back and leave my key light at the end. Doing this I ensure that my key light, my most important light, has no interference from the rim and/or background lights. I don't use a lightmeter, so that has a lot to do with my approach. Cheers, and many thanks. Your videos are must-watch for anyone who loves photography and wants to take their game to the next level. BTW, we all love Sophie!
binge watching Adorama videos whilst stuck at home with covid. Really enjoyed this one and something i'm going to have a go at in my own small studio space
Lighting Basics, but so many fail to set up this way. The one thing that you missed on was setting the camera F Stop for a black shot while the room environment lights are on. Then the strobes are set to produce the levels needed, as you demonstrated. Doing this assures that the room lights do not affect the end result of the shot. You know this, but many watching don't. A great demonstration otherwise. Thanks.
What would Adorama do without Gavin the Govnor. Quality information never slurped a drink once . Just class, precise evertime. Hope they appreciate you over there you show them up with your simplicity.
Really glad to see Sophie back 🙂 But on the technical side, those gels don't eat the same amount of light, do they? So did you re-meter to get the same lighting after putting the gels on, or did you purposefully chose the purple to be on the fill side rather than the key side, etc...? Guessing each power separately by eye? Or something else? I think a little more explanations would have been nice in that area. Thanks in advance for the enlightenment 😉
I love your tutorial videos. I haven't been able to find any tutorials on lighting portraits of Senior Citizens and would love to see how you would do it. I would like to see one on how to do flattering, soft lighting to take portraits of Senior citizens...wrinkles, bags, uneven skin tones, etc. Waist up shots. Thank you for your consideration of making this type video, also could include taking flattering photos of anyone that is not model like....large ears, large nose, bad skin, etc.
Hey Gavin. I loved the video, but may I please ask, how is it that I am mostly only seeing the catchlight from the key light in the final shots, when your fill light is at such a similar angle just on the other side? How are you avoiding the fill light catchlight so effectively? Is it just by being a little higher up or more to the side? From what I can tell in the video it seems to be quite similar placement to the key light, so I'm wondering why I'm not seeing it in her eyes.
Great vid as always Gavin. One question, can you link me to the colour gels you used for the AD300 please? I only see links for the other gels. Many thanks.
Brilliant, you made it look so easy so now I will have to go give it a try 😁. You did say you set your camera up with a custom white balance, any chance you could tell us what it was ? Thanks again Gavin for producing such a great video that will help a lot of photographers 😁👍
Hi Tim. If you mean flash transmitter (rather then radio mic for the audio) then no. However my Flashpoint transmitter is currently held together with tape due to the hard life it gets in my studio and at 4:10 what you're seeing is the group view (press the magnify icon to swap views) which makes working with multiple flashes a lot easier at first.
Not a Lightroom user but OM-1 files are supported as far as I'm aware. They certainly work perfectly in Adobe Camera RAW (Photoshop's RAW processor) and that shares it's engine with the Develop module of Lightroom Classic.
Your fellow Adorama presenters Seth Miranda and Daniel Norton disagree with your statement that light modifiers can be variously sourced, arguing that the reflecting and diffusion materials will likely be different and can individually tint the subject. Admittedly coming from a less experienced perspective, I feel that at the most used settings, the power of the light will obliterate any tiny differences. At low output, however, there might be a difference, but I question whether it would be noticeable.
One of the absolute best presenters/instructors around. Clear, systematic, and practical. Super.
I absolutely agree....
No matter what,Gavin's video are simple and everyone can learn
Been following Gavin for a while now and just love his presentations and the way he breaks it down.
Thank you sooooo much for your clear & simple explanation of channels & groups! And, as always, your videos are informative & entertaining.
My beloved presenter. Just by watching one of his videos... he makes my mood better.
Excellent as always, Gav - thanks for all you do!

Hi Alan. 2 light to 3 lights doesn't sound like much of a leap but its a big step that is worth your effort 👍
Thank you Sam, Sophie and Gavin.
Thank you Gavin! You always get me fired up to go shoot with flash!
Always amazing content and very well explained
As always, simply brilliant!

There blue gel is from the set listed in the video description. The other colours are random gels collected over the years from places long forgotten.
Does anyone know, where I can get this little c-stand, where the background flash is mounted?
Great video Gavin
Thanks Kirsty 👍
@@GavinHoey your welcome
Good show Gavin Hoey.
How about another challenge?
Can you do a video showcasing foreground bokeh, in studio?
Should be fun...😁📸
Hello, I don't know theses gels ?
With my ad-r14 I just have yellow blue, red.

Very nice, getting Watchmen vibe
One my all time favourite films, so maybe a little bit of unconscious influence.
Congratulations on your new camera.
Thanks Kenneth 👍
Hallo Gavin,
Great Video again from you.
The same Setup will also work with 3 x AD200 pro, correct?
Thanks
Tom
Hi Tom and yes, 3 EVOLV200 (AD200) will work just fine.
@@GavinHoey Thanks Gavin. I am a big fan of your videos and the way you convey it!!!

@@GavinHoey I checked it out, how did I miss that….I must be getting old and my eyesight is playing up haha, thank you 😁👍
Очень полезно. Спасибо.
OK, I have a question 🙋♂is Flashpoint a rebranded Godox system? Or vice versa even? Ta much.
Good video. Just curious. Did Gavin get a new transmitter there?

Long time not seeing Sophie. Like Gavin. Mr. Bean in photo field.
Not a fan of the direct flash look, but it’s still a good shot. Alexis was the winner on this one.

Poor Gavin ... "Blinded By The Light ... "
Thank you Dee. I'd like to say that was a first... but I can't 😉
It is not all the true that everything in your camera is in manual mode, the focus is not in manual mode. 😉
You got me there 😉
Man adorama is really pushing gels lately
