      The Verge My only problem is the huge chin on the bottom, and why can no one make a really small notch like on the essential phone? It shouldn't be that hard considering their R&D budget.

      I see nothing wrong with the notch on modern phones its a step forward and until technologies get better like having the camera under the display and the vibrating of the front glass for top speaker the notch is there

  • @ronymishchuk5484
    @ronymishchuk5484 Před 6 lety +194

    I don't understand this. I understand the reviewer is different but it's the same organization so the opinions shouldn't change. If you say in the OP6 review that the notch is ok and then in this you say it's bad, that is the most blatant bias ever

    • @TaofikiGafar
      @TaofikiGafar Před 6 lety +9

      Rony Mishchuk that is why they have different journalist for different opinions. This isn't like other CZcams reviewers with one main person. It is a large organization that gives assignments to different journalist. Each phone review is technically an editorial piece aka opinion piece. Each person has their own opinion

    • @ghostxfairy
      @ghostxfairy Před 6 lety +8

      A review is an opinion. Different reviewers, different opinions. They don't all need to conform to the same opinion just because they work for the same outlet.

    • @aniket6621
      @aniket6621 Před 6 lety +2

      ctrlSHIFT then what's the point of working for the same company? If they can't stick on one opinion for an organization, then start posting your video indvidually on your separate channel. They are making their viewers confuse,that's all.

      Totally agree. How can you believe the Verge if all the reviews have different opinions. They should all agree that the notch is good or bad and stick to that, regardless of their own feelings

  • @tejasm26
    @tejasm26 Před 6 lety +197

    Extremely shabby work by Verge again. You guys really need to structure your reviews and give every single aspect of the phone proper time. Production quality won't matter if your content isn't great. This video just seemed like a rushed criticism.

    • @WhenItsHalfPastFive
      @WhenItsHalfPastFive Před 6 lety +2

    What a negative ending to this review. So much of your view is subjective whining vs anything really wrong with the phone, so had to give a thumbs down on the review. -- I went through reviews of numerous phones and chose this camera as my top choice. Decent cameras on front and rear now. Battery from other reviews indicates that will be just fine for my usage. Have learned can use other launcher if don't like their interface. Love all the customization with all their options. -- 1. Phone Jack with good audio. Now I need better headphones to take advantage. Will also help hear music with my tinnitus because can adjust the frequencies! Very nice ability! 2. Wide angle camera allows taking photos of my horses. They are a lot wider than a person after all. I can get both cats in the video, even if they aren't sitting on top of each other. 3. Ability to rev up the brightness when outside, so I can finally see a phone screen without holding the phone up under my shirt and staring down through my bra or having to turn my back to the sun and look for shade while squinting. 4. I don't mind the notch. I like that they have the extra information on the top. 5. Loud sound from the single speaker, which is good for my aging ears and can be louder than my tinnitus. 6. Very cool that with one swipe can make a smaller image of the screen. 7. Manual options for video and photos. 8. The button for Google assistant is a neat idea, which may be handy. Plus they may allow remapping in future. 9. I don't like things on other phones, so this one doesn't have various negatives. Bixby? And hate the curved screen of the Samsungs. Some phones are also ridiculously large for an average woman's hands. The LG G7 is taller, but not as wide (and can use the smaller image version with one swipe).
    I love my LG refrigerator. I think I'll like the LG phone. I have a Samsung S3, so I can grade up once every few years. ;-)
    Plus have found phone with discount, so price is right too. They only have grey one for discount, but I plan to put a good case on the phone.

      @@michaelcammarata3371 Even though I have researched to the ends of the Earth what new phone I will purchase. I have already paid for the G7 and am awaiting delivery. In the meantime, I am looking up reviews and I have to say despite not having it in my hand just yet, this review left me wondering if I made a good choice. I've already seen another review in which photos were compared to the S9 and I actually really like the K7's take. But it is really hard to tell the photos apart.
      So I am thankful for MegF's response.

  • @TheWowwa
    @TheWowwa Před 6 lety +1

    Started with a critic on the notch, in the middle with mixed reviews of positive and negative comments, and ends with a critic again to conclude the video. Honestly, LG G7 is the LG phone that I think I want to start to love LG again (currently I use G5). Not really keen on G6, but almost loving V30 plus and pixel 2! Were torn between these two phones until LG G7 makes headlines. I started to dig more videos and articles for LG G7 reviews. The reviewer in this video forgots how awesome LG still keeps its headphone jack and not just solely having it, it has Quad DAC feature. G7 makes LCD screen so beautiful and so bright (probably the best in the industry now), that manual camera mode (LG phones always have this, most phones are automated), the battery even it's small but I'm sure there's quality in it (G5 has 2700mAh battery and I'm using it 2 years the battery still doesn't run out or acted funny ...supposed that a battery has 400-450 cycles, I think mine has passed that and still works!). There's also a video on CZcams shows how snappy the LG G7 as compared to Iphone X. So much hate on LG's skin, I pretty much liked it! I don't see why the hate. I prefer LG's calendar app than Google! The Google Maps always working on LG phone, it never crashed on me. All in all, I think LG G7 has the enhanced features that most people wanted. High quality audio (plus the way it records sounds!), great and consistent camera (wide angle, duhh), great phone design and how it feels on hand, beautiful screen, smart assistant (the google assistant and also I think in G7, LG has their own smart assistant too like my G5), and it's not as pricey as Samsung and Iphone (If I'm not mistaken Huawei P20 Pro is quite pricey too right?). God, there's no perfect phone but for some people (like me) LG G7 is a perfect phone for 2018 flagship.

    I used the iPhone x and the LG g7, and I'm still using the g7 and it literally puts the iPhone to shame. I like both iPhones and LG phones. The LG g7 has so many customizations like the always on display, the fonts, icons. Literally almost everything is customizable. Maybe try actually using the LG g7 before you make it sound like a Ken doll.

    The person who set up the camera lighting of this video was doing a terrible job. Why would you use Rembrandt lighting on someone who has Strabismus and put the eye that looks straight into the shadow. Due to this, it looks like the host is looking to the right to a teleprompter or something. Took me a while to realize what was going on. It would have been way better to flip the lighting. Don't get me wrong, this is in no way an offence to the host and even lighting would have been fine too. But given the situation, this is the dumbest kind of lighting they could have picked.....

    One thing worth noting about LG phones is that their price tend to come down faster than other phones. A quick Google search found me a new LGV30 for $530. That's a hell of a phone for that price, whereas the Pixel 2 is hard to find for less than $750.

    I think LG should give us a phone with stock Android software and be a part of Android One program like Nokia, put a bigger camera sensor with their already great optics all backed by a bigger battery (atleast 3500mah). Otherwise I don't see any other weak areas in their phones, like display is nice(except a notch in this one),audio is great (with 3.5mm jack), and design is good too in my opinion.

    I have an LG G6... and the main reason - it was similar in features to a Galaxy phone, but costs less. It was $500 new, when Galaxy/iPhones were in the +$800 range. I hope that LG keeps it up, as it is a great phone, as long as the price is reasonable. Only true downside to LG phones - aftermarket cases.

    The notch thing is obviously personal preference. It’s great LG provides the option to hide it. It seems companies have that there so you can have as much screen as possible while keeping the phone small. If someone asks “Why bother having it there if you can hide it?”, you have to reiterate that it’s there so you get more screen. That’s why.

    5:22 - Oh my gosh, you just reminded me why non-LG phones annoy me so much. They're always moving stuff around. With LG, when you put stuff somewhere, it generally sticks there.
    I guess I'm glad for the features that annoy others.
    LG G7, Pixel 2 XL, or OnePlus 6? Hmm...

    Wtf are you talking about? "The iPhone has more sensors so it makes sense for them to have a notch, but LG had less do it should have a bezel instead?" What? How does the amount of sensors in ANY WAY influence whether you should have a notch or not? You think Apple switched to a notch because they couldn't fit face id stuff in a regular bezel? I'm really confused right now

    Why are people so against the notch, until you can embed it in the screen or pop up then this is the only viable solution.

    What do you think about a 4.5 inch stock android phone. Bezelless, if possible. Won't it be a good and actual "differentiated" product?

    You guys can be a little too critical on these not-so popular phones. So you complain so much about the notch, but in the iPhone X review you guys said that eventually you learn to ignore the notch. Why can't you ignore it here? Because it doesn't have any significant feature, such as Face ID, integrated with it? That just doesn't make sense to me. The G7's notch is literally smaller and has the customization options to hide it better. So which is it? Is the notch that troublesome or can you ignore it?

    Iam thinking of buyin this phone. It looks nice has a great display, sound and has a good feel in hand. It costs 11 euros peer month (for 24 months) less then regular S9 in my country which I think is a lot. I dont like the software as much as Samsung but I can put a Nova louncher and make it like Pixel 2.
    I think the price is gonna be the factor for me.....to go with the G7

    No much cheaper you say I think 599 to 959 is fair bit cheaper. I like the fact LG has stuck with the headphone jack and the Hi-Res Dac is big thing is you love your music and have decent set of headphones plus the wide angle lens I really like to it's ashame others don't follow

    At 750usd suggested price, tough sell. Especially with one plus 6 with the good camera and good headphone and good battery life.
    I ding one plus for their motto never settle but they make a pretty decent fast phones, outside of the dramas they had before .
