    What a vocal range P.J. had! Listen to this song & then listen to "Somewhere"...almost sounds like 2 different singers. Incredible!

    I first heard this recording whilst staying at a caravan park in Woolacombe, I think I was around 13 then, so that would be 1965, I was blown away by it. When I saw what he looked like, I fell in love a little. I had the great privilege of seeing him live at a little club in West Bromwich called the Steering Wheel. Wow that was around 1975, I will never, ever forget that. I listen to him now and am arranging the music for my funeral. Maria and Somewhere will figure in it and maybe this too, who knows. Thanks Jimmy for the music, thanks a lot. x

    When this guy was off the booze he was second only to Elvis absolutely brilliant voice i was lucky enough to see him in a dingy working men's club singing to backing tapes he was sober and on form he absolutely tore the place apart the audience wouldn't let him go i was only young and that was my first encounter with real talent left a big impression

    He gave both to us in spades in the 60's and yet they chose to block this talent in a variety of shameful ways.

    I loved that guy, and I remember this video,we didn't have colour TV in the early 60's.I bought tickets to see him in Hull,but unfortunately,he had split his trousers at another venue,so they cancelled him,and brought on Tom Jones,I wasn't having that,so I went and got my money back,and went home in tears,I think that was the beginning of the end of his career.what a shame,and just look how some acts present themselves on stage and TV.I still love you PJ,and still play your record.

    Just checked out this song after reading Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame had played guitar on this track. Interesting the first time Led Zeppelin was recorded was on Proby's 1969 album Three Week Hero after John Paul Jones had been booked for session work and brought guys along to work on record. PJ had a great voice.

    • @Spartanm333
      @Spartanm333 Před 9 lety +2

      Jim liked the British accent and he deliberately spoke and sang with one at times - his bit of fun with us Brits. He was so versatile and could sing in several styles often paying homage to friends like Gene Pitney - it backfired though as the press called him a side show 'mimic' - they never understood him (or chose not to). Artistes like Eric Clapton and Jools Holland do this all the time now on TV and they are praised for bringing the original artiste to a new audience... how times change.

      cindy little well it wasn't really an incident, they were tight, they split a little during the performance and Jim ragged them open a bit more to wind up the crowd - spur of the moment, but not exactly lewd as it was made out to be. Truth be told there were several on the British music scene who felt threatened by his chart success - Tom Jones management being one of them. The press were prodded out of the bar and they stitched him up. By today's standards he was a Prince.

      @@annewilson4404 according to Jim ( I have met him on several occasions as my dad was a promoter) - he did it a few times before the major press incident, but then he can tell a story. Like the one about chasing Dean Martin's daughter down the street with a gun after an argument (which he got arrested for. Deano caught up with him and threatened to have him killed by his mob friends). He has certainly lived a life.
