If a half press of the photo does not activate Auto Focus then it sounds like you have the AF turned of. Is their a switch on the side of the lens ? If so make sure it is not set to MF (which is manual focus), once switched to AF your problem should be solved. if you have a lens that does not have the switch then you will need to check focus mode settings on the camera.
      Hope that helps.

I had my camera for months before I could use it properly as everyone said 'Oh use manual' 'Manual is the only way' and of course, being clueless I tried and failed horribly. Thanks Paul. Great tutorial. Is this another way to simplify focusing: 1) choose a single focus point in the center, 2) line that point up with the object you want in focus, 3) half press the shutter, 4) move the camera to frame the desired shot (without removing your finger from the shutter), 5) take the shot. If this works, you never have to mess with changing the focus point. Looking for set it and forget it. Thanks. Tom F

Hey Paul , really enjoying the videos! I don't suppose you could please do a video on one of the older nikons? (such as a d70s)

Thank you so much for watching and supporting my channel. The D70S is a great camera, but I hav etc be honest and say that as a much older model it is very unlikely that I would make a video specifically about this camera.
I will say that most of the Nikon videos I have made will feature techniques and tips that will apply to your camera.

Great subject. My mom turned 60 in november and I wanted to make some nice pictures with my D3500 and the 35mm F1.8 (bought the lens used one and a half years ago). Everything went well until I noticed that the autofocus stopped working and I had to focus manually. I can still use the lens for astro but for portraits I ordered a brand new lens 😊

Hope then new lens performs better for you, thank you for watching.

@@photogenius Yes it is as solid as expected. If I can take just one lens for travel it would be the 35mm F1.8.
