In this episode of our new Christmas series, Proclamations of Christmas Pt 3: Angels’ Song, Walking The Text Founder Brad Gray unpacks the angels’ song in Luke 2:14. We know this song from the Latin words “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” (“Glory to God in the highest”). Ultimately, it’s a song about peace on earth. Yet, each day we’re reminded that our earth isn’t so peaceful. How can we sing about peace in the midst of chaos?
Well, that’s where the birth of Jesus comes in. Jesus was born during a period of relative stability known as the “Pax Romana” (Latin for “Peace of Rome”). Back then, the Romans prided themselves on bringing peace to the world. Unfortunately, their version of peace meant conquering people with their military and then forcing them to pay taxes. It was great if you were a Roman, but not for most of the rest of the world. That’s the point. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, was born into the midst of chaos.
Consequently, the peace Jesus brings is altogether different than the peace the Romans brought. The peace Jesus brings is more than the absence of conflict. It’s the presence of wholeness. By the end of Proclamations of Christmas Pt 3: Angels’ Song, you’ll see how lasting peace only comes from the Prince of Peace!

Just watched this, Brad, WOW. This season my Heart and Spirit have been gripped with the phase "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" and Leos Deo and knowing God was at work in a new movement in my Spiritual walk, I have been waiting on the Lord, Worshiping with various renditions of this Song and passages in Scripture , in its various forms this Christmas 2023. This has brought new Revelation to me and keeps me moving forward in ALL that Holy Spirit is wanting to reveal and unfold to me as we step into the Open Door of 2024 where there is war at the Open Door, but His Promises are on the other side. We war with Him to move forward Door after Door after Door and I am declaring, worshiping and saying "Gloria in Excelsis Deo, Glory to God in the highest". The Prince of Peace lives within us, but this opened my eyes to SEE more, SEE beyond and Wrap His Peace around me and stay in His Wonder moving from War at the Open door with the Prince of Peace within me, wrapped around me as I Worship and War knowing, that i (we) will make it through and into each promise He puts before us.
