    A tsunami is no where hear as high at sea; but is way longer wavelength; way more powerful in shallow areas; longer lasting; close to invisible at sea; and not at dangerous in the deep ocean.

      that's the problem with engines these captains rely on them for control over the rudder. Some old double ended sailing vessels don't even have engines! but they do have captains that know how to sail! however these old guys are a dying breed and so are double enders with full keels. that's because they don't have a lotta room for their length and the one I sailed on briefly in the 60's had gimbled bunks for sleep. yeah pretty fox'cle whats that? there were 4 gimbled bunks up there on this boat that's it for sleeping. this boat was an absolute tank! he defouled it in the bay of fundy it was never pulled from the water.

    The Arvin wasn't seaworthy. They had added on to it, and that's the part you see breaking off. The welds didn't hold. It wasn't meant for the open sea, only canal and river work. Whoever sent it into the ocean sent those men to their deaths. ⚓

    Number 7 is a boat crossing the Greymouth Bar in New Zealand. The Greymouth bar is known for being the deadliest sandbar in NZ and has taken many lives. Crossings like these are not too rare as the average high tide wave length at the moment is 3 meters (10ft).

    The wave seen at the end of movie the perfect storm is impossible. Talk to any expert & they will tell you the same thing the ocean can't generate a wave that big

    Crossing Cape Horn on a Naval cruiser caused our crew to walk half on wall, half on floor, to get around the ship. The cruiser shuttered terribly going over the crest of giant waves. The Sonar broke taking on water and the upper structure cracked nearly in half. There are worst storms around that cape than we experienced.

      It broke because it was never designed for ocean travel. It was a river boat, which it was capable of doing. But when it got put on the ocean, there were forces that it was never intended to deal with on a daily basis. Ocean travel is FAR harder on a vessel than river work is. It should have never been put on any ocean, it was a death trap.
