The greatest big band drummer of all time....The speed and the left hand are the most amazing thing about Buddy Rich... Definitely the GOAT!!!!
He may have played mostly big band jazz, but it's obvious this guy could've picked up any form of music old or modern and completely dominate every other drummer trying to make a name for themselves.
You witnessed history by the man who was touched by the hand of God himself and he worked for the right to be a little arrogant don't you think
I'm 64 soooo Yea. Buddy was the best, and is still up there with the greatest of all time. It was a pleasure to hear Zildjians again. It's been a minute.
🤘🏻👍🏻👌🏻🐐
Note the Paiste ride cymbal he has here.
@@crlaw75 I don't see it.
@@TheUprightLuthier-1959 , at the :47 mark, you can see the Paiste logo under the ride cymbal.
Incredible to see the orchestra members' faces as they intently fix their eyes on Buddy, meticulously waiting for the exact moment to resume playing after his drum solo. They almost seem frightened.
I love watching Buddy Rich,,,, grew up listening to him,,,, Greatest
🐐👌🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Buddy takes drummers\ listeners on a journey to a place where they are speechless, Just in ore of what they have just witnessed
ok i was going to say no such thing as the best but then there was Buddy, genius
It’s not the speed alone but the accents, dynamics, ingenuity and stamina that might be unmatched, and is what makes us watch to the end.
No the orchestra is mesmerized just like everybody else who watches Buddy Rich play the drums it's not a big fancy drum set give this man a pair of drumsticks and he could probably play on anything and make it sound awesome the man is so quick and aware of where every piece of kit is❤ he is the grandfather of G.O.A.T s
Hands down the absolute best ever! I grew up watching Buddy's performances on "The Tonight Show," and I also got to see him live. What an amazing performer. Very few people had that hand speed and accuracy of this guy. Neil Peart, Carl Palmer , and Ian Paice from Deep Purple come close, but jazz is completely different thing to play, and Buddy was the best. I've also watched him with "drum offs" with Gene Krupa, Max Roach, Louie Bellson, and others, but Buddy was so fast and so clean that no one could touch him.
Saw Buddy live in London in 1980 and still to,this day unbeatable not just in speed but artistry
I was live there, after the Solo the audience stood up,never ending applause,it was November !984 Berlin Jazzfestival,a Concert which i will never forget.
The O.G! What a man. What a legend! His hi-hat trills always inspired me so much and no doubt everyone who came after him!
He was just so unique. The finesse he had I think was, and is, unparalleled.
Buddy WAS the GOAT. No question about it.
I wish more people would really listen to his several big bands play. You get snippets with these solos, but, they too, were some of the greatest of all time.
No one can top buddy. He will always be the G.O.A.T(The Greatest Of All Time)
Absolutely ! Buddy was and is still the greatest drummer of all time.
I was lucky enough to have seen this band many times in SoCal. Once with my Dad, in the front row of a small club. That bass drum would knock you over!!
5:16 "It was just too easy for him!" Excellent observation, and something that seemed to separate Buddy from all others. If he could think it, he could play it. He had no limitations.
The early years were just the beginning!👍👍
He also played such an intense solo back in the day, he gave himself a Hernia...
Without a doubt....the GOAT.
Maestro On Drums! With 2 Sticks
🤘🏻👍🏻🐐👌🏻
Never seen anyone I don’t think with better hands
Your favorite drummers, favorite drummer is Buddy Rich
He was definitely a monster or, more aptly, said the OG goat 🐐!!
🐐👌🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
I love it, he’s still got it! ❤❤❤
🤘🏻👍🏻👌🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🐐
All musicians listen to some internal voice we try to bring it to light as clearer as possible.
listening to that voice is the genius. That what goes down in history.
Check out Woody (Herman) meets Buddy. Newport Jazz Festival 1966. No video but just listen to Buddy's licks. When Buddy sat in with another famous musician the gloves came off. Listen for Buddy's comment in the middle of his solo.
definitely the best of all time
His snares are stupid good!
Drumming is an art form, Buddy Rich was probably the best exhibition drummer of all time, but apart from that designation: it's more a matter of preference. And any further comparison is the proverbial apples vs oranges.😮😊😅
You could remove the audio and just show the face of that dude off to the right side .......that alone is something you'll never see even from one person out of a stadium crowd of audience members. To be there must have been miraculously mind blowing somehow beyond the videos we're witnessing as skilled drummers in total awe.
He supposedly in the middle of a solo stopped and stood up and said I think I hurt myself, and had a double hernia....
Absolutely he is the best ever. Years ago he had a faceoff with Gene Krupa, who many thought was so good, and Buddy made him look like an amateur. Krupa used to admire how fast Rich and Lewis Belson were.
A GOAT….yes! Thee GOAT….no! I don’t think there is one GOAT but many that have reached GOAT like status.
You'd have to take a video of any other drummer and play it at about 3X speed to get close to what Buddy played in real time. He was on another plane entirely.
GOAT no doubt.
Yep
It gets better with age!!!👍👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think huub janssen was amazing and slept on tbh
I feel like something was different. I can´t explain.
This made me watch Whiplash straight after. If you haven't, watch it. Incredible film
Undisputed!
Yeah…. He’s the best! No denying it.
Get hold of an album called. Rich versus Roach. Buddy rich and Max Roach. Brilliant stuff
🤘🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Do you see the drum stick in Buddy's Left hand. The correct way!!!
yes yes yes no 1
YEP
GOAT?😂😂 Have you ever heard of Max Roach? I saw Rich live several times. Bored, all he did was loud drum roll with theatrics.
Those people watching him play seem to not want to be there.
🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻👌🏻🐐
I don't think there is a greatest of all time. What we can say is that he was the greatest of his era and that he changed how the drums were played.
Absolutely gorgeous.. Master piece wawwww💖💖💖💖
👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🐐
his face when he looks at you.....yeah rea em and weep.....kiddo
he started at 2 yrs old
It’s too bad there was never a recorded drum solo of his in his younger day, I think the earliest was when he was 48 years old. That show with Jerry Lewis which he appeared on but never anything when he was in his 20’s or even 30’s which would be interesting, to say the least
Max Roach🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rick was the best
Rich
Are you leading or dragging????!!!
Arrogance?
Buddy was a marine and a black belt who trained other marines going into combat.
Dude was always drunk and coked up.😢
He definitely is an amazing drummer, but hearing all the things said about how much of a dick he was makes it hard to fully appreciate him.
All technique...no soul.
Any jazz musician can be the goat, is the style of "everything is allow to play even if you change the tempo, speed and make mistakes well, iiiiis jazz babyyyy so everything is allowed 😂
The very thought that anyone keeps imagining there’s “no one best drummer” in a world that’s already seen Buddy just blows my mind.
Folks, drop the fake evenhandedness, and just deal with it. Drumming has an unequivocal boss, and this is him.
It ain’t even close.
they say Joe Morello had the fastest left hand on drums on the great drum solo! maybe
