@@gracejardine6607 It's good to hear your appreciation. I'm used to hearing from people that I'm sinning because I'm worried about getting something wrong. In their minds it's sinful, because it's fear or it's legalism or I'm thinking too much or something else. My priest has been super super understanding. He has been so patient and he's never said that I'm legalistic or that I think too much when I have five billion questions. I like Father Mark Mary's approach in understanding that if we feel comfortable with the form and confident with it then we can take our minds off of it. That is spot-on for us autistics, isn't it?

    Great job!
If I may add one more point to an already great video: People need to also be taught to be restful and “childlike.” As an intimate encounter with the Lord Jesus, we are invited to receive with simple, humble, childlike faith. Thus, after we respond with our “Amen,” we are to consciously rest as we gently tilt back our head, open our mouth, and stick out our tongue, allowing the minister to do all the work of placing the Body of Christ on our tongue. In this way too, we grow in a sense of receptivity and trust, allowing the moment to be a true gift from God.

I am so thankful that the Lord has given me strength, to keep going, even though I want to give up. I have two beautiful boys both are autistic. My husband passed away years ago. I’m all alone. I lost my job over declining the vaccine. LIKE MANY OTHERS! I declined due to my pre existing health conditions lupus and heart disease. I’ve been struggling to provide for myself and my children since losing my job from Forsyth hospital. I’m now waitressing, and I’m thankful, but I’m not making nearly enough to get by. Groceries are super expensive. Every month is a battle to not end up on the streets with my two children. I’m constantly in fear of losing my home. To even think about being on the streets with two young children is terrifying. But even as I face homelessness seemingly every month. I have faith, God will provide! With GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Faith over fear.

When I was a kid growing up in the bay area I would stand and the priest would put it in my mouth. When we moved to Sacramento, I would stand and the priest would put it in my hand and I would sit back down then eat it. Now I'm 48 living in Modesto and it seems the people at the new church I attend bow at the altar, say Amen, receive it in the hands and eat it on the spot. So, I just followed what they did the last three times I went to mass. But today I did the same but put the wafer in my mouth after turning away to return to my seat and a lady at the altar ran up to me in a panic and asked if I put it in my mouth. She saw me munching then ran back over to the priest. I don't know, I just thought that was weird. Unless I did something really wrong, but it seems to be different in certain areas? Or different churches?

A little while ago a priest told us right before communion to let the priest do the work, just open your mouth. It’s kind of like a golf swing, you need the follow-through. He said, don’t move your head. So you just hold very still until it is fully placed.
I think he MIGHT have said to us because at another church in the city a priest placed it on my tongue and it fell out! I think it was the second time! I said I would still have it but he gave me another one. I told him he could just give it to me on the hand. After mass he beckoned me over and looking so beautiful he said I could continue to receive it on the tongue, basically to not be afraid to. Cause I had been weeping ever since and I think he wanted reassure me.
Btw I love this description of the Eucharist. He gets it. I love that he gets it and I wish the whole world would get it

Only consecrated hands should touch the Body of Christ, He is really present in that host: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. When Jesus resurrected He told Mary Magdalene not to touch Him, however He told Thomas to touch his side, Thomas was consecrated as a priest during the Last Supper, so he could touch His body, the same is for all priests.
He gave up His Body in the Holy Cross to give us salvation and we are given this sacred gift of love from Our Lord, to be part of His body, so we have to receive Him with the most reverence and grateful hearts as the King of Kings deserves.

Incorrect. Jesus told Mary Magdalene to not “hold on” to Him, not to not touch Him. Jesus touched lepers and the sick of all kinds and the dead and horrible sinners; He broke all sorts of taboos and religious rules by touching people; of course He’s okay with us touching Him. Besides, there’s nothing that makes the tongue more holy than the hands and nobody’s tongue is consecrated.

I made my First Communion in the 1960s and have always received on the tongue (tried several times by hand but felt uncomfortable). Receiving this way is very natural except when I startle a Eucharistic Minister who has been distributing in the hand - and they notice my hands are not out - and I can tell they don't particularly like distributing on the tongue and I feel their anxiety. They need lessons too (LOL) since while I extend my tongue in an easy access way, they sometimes don't do a good job. I also look down with a EM because sometimes they hold up the Host for me to look at, but I have no desire to catch their eye which would happen. Some may be trained that way but I don't care for it, so lowered eyes. Receiving our Savior is the most important thing we do so it's important to feel comfortable about it so I pray many here eventually get there.

I also am a bit anxious when receiving communion by the tongue from a EM. This past week, the EM held up 2 hosts because my husband and I always stand side-by-side while receiving. I had to touch my chin to show her I receive by mouth and then she preceded to place 1 of the hosts (awkwardly) on my tongue while still holding the other in the same hand. We attend a morning mass at another church when our parish does not have mass that day, and the priest told us (beforehand) that he does not look directly at us while we are receiving, and the reason is because (he said)" it is between you and Jesus. I keep myself out of it". I liked that explanation.

Thank you Fr Mark Mary. This video was just so timely. 9 months ago it didn't really matter to me and I likely skipped over it. But today it showed up in my email when I needed it. I have started receiving on the tongue and it can be very unnerving as I have noticed sometimes even the priest seems nervous or that he had rather not so I am so happy to get some tops and practice to be able to do it better. Thank you for going through when kneeling as well because I have been receiving kneeling. Tomorrow I will definitely feel more confident when I go for mass. I am so thankful for having received this video today. 9 months later. I watch your videos weekly on ascension but somehow never watched this one before. And actually it didn't apply to me 9 months ago. You are a blessing and God bless you and all the Fransiscans.

I greatly appreciated this video, and thank you for not just your thorough explanation and tips but also for your vulnerability in showing and demonstrating things to us. I never want to make the Holy Presence about either the priest nor myself, and this was very helpful in directing the path to the true focus on the LORD and not be worried about other minutia.

Definitely appreciate this video as someone who needed content just like this when entering the Church. It is such an unusual activity to participate in, especially for someone coming from a totally non-Catholic background, that one can feel really self-conscious about it. Like, I still struggle to reconcile this posture as the most 'reverent' (not disputing anyone about it though), purely because my only cultural parallel is being a little kid sticking my tongue out at someone to say "Nyah nyah!" I just didn't grow up around people bedridden and needing to be fed, for example, so the act of one person feeding another, and how to go about that... Anyhow, thanks for your humility in modelling for the camera. I appreciate that you entering into the self-consciousness of so many of us!

I know the plate or paten under the chin is not an ancient practice, but it gives you so much confidence to let go and receive in a childlike manner. But only the latin mass uses the paten.
