    I always love Casio styling on their calculators.

      They do look good in aluminium. Keyboards are very soft though compared to the fantastic tactile HP keyboards

    Cheers for the video, just got a VX-4 and have an FX-850P - I've ordered one of the new memory modules, will install in the VX-4 as I have an RP-8 in the FX-850P

      Give the machine code games a try on the VX-4 with the extra memory. It's tricky following the instructions after translating from Japanese though

      Start with Cosmic Fly standalone version which I've covered in a separate video (czcams.com/video/z4YnUW2IPD8/video.html ) then have a look at the following site: www.lsigame.com/pb-1000/pb-1000.htm. Note, you will need to load other software to help load and manage the machine code but the dependencies are listed for each program.

    Jeff Birt also has a CZcams video showing how to remove the internal 8K RAM chip on a VX-4 and replace it with a 32K RAM chip for a total (with RP-33) of 64K.

    • @HeyBirt
      @HeyBirt Před 2 lety +1

      This is a fairly easy upgrade, just swapping chips and changing one solder jumper.

      Thanks, I have seen this video and the extra memory would be great but beyond my skills and experience as a software engineer. Would hate to destroy my VX-4

      @@tomlake2732 Very true. I was meaning 'easy' when compared to other pocket computers where you have to route multiple small wires around. the PCB to make the larger internal RAM work.

      @@HeyBirt... I'm an efficient software programmer and own the Tandy-6 Basic programming calculator. It is fun to go back to freedom of spaghetti coding 😂 I don't own this one but programming is simple. I have extended 16K added memory on Tandy-6 and still enjoying my complex professional software in simple Basic programs. Microsoft Excel or VB-6, C, C++, Java, etc. reinventing software programming are better for those doing Word, Excel, Database, etc frontend laptops computers are the reasons why since the early 1990s the computer calculator became obsolete. For those people not wanting to program as even a hobby the products of MATLAB, PSPICE and Wolfram Alpha produce interesting other stuff not easily incorporated into Microsoft Excel or Visual Studios Microsoft. I love my still powerfully calculating and functioning TANDY6 pocket computer to help me matrix multiply, find roots of polynomials, find matrix determinants, find Matrix inverses and even ... most importantly to give me data values without looking at function graphs that I need to figure out in graphs ultimately. This is very useful in University Senior level State Equations Vector Analysis all coursework that includes programs that do find eigenvalues and eigenvectors highly advanced professional programmer math!!

    QUESTION : does this work with the FX-850P calculator ? i myself am a proud owner of a FX-850P calculator and i wonder if this works on the FX-850P, so can you tell me ?

    • @CalculatorClique
      @CalculatorClique  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, the module supports the 850p as well. Check the links in the description where the maker lists all models supported.
      Note, I’ve only tested on my 880p and VX-4

      It’s a new release of a 32Kb memory expansion for the listed Casio pocket computers and is compatible with the RP-33. It’s cheaper and readily available compared to the original RP-33 today.

      @@CalculatorClique have looked on the Tindie site, but it says shipping to UK not an option. I’ve had this before, I think it’s to do with post BREXIT tariffs incurred on smaller orders, or something like that.

      CZcams ate my last reply, so I'll try again. I also sell them through my website and eBay. YT won't let me post links though. If you type "RP-33 Redux" in a search engine you will find them.

      @@HeyBirt I wish I could work out how to post an image. The reason I purchased my VX-4 was because someone had bodged a 32K RAM upgrade. It works, never given any issues, but you'd definitely have to describe it as "Heath Robinson"!!
