Coming from a professional plumber, you did a great job. The gasket under the drain, I would personally silicone the side of the gasket that connects to the ABS. That helps it not move around while reinstalling the tub and also seals.
I've been watching this channel for a long time now. This video reminds me of when I originally started watching. You take your time and explain to everyone what you are doing and why you are doing it. I felt like the channel transitioned away from that and I was glad to see this today!
Looks awesome, great work as always!
I just learned of his channel (and you, btw). I'm age 21 and did gymnastics for 14 years. I was adopted out of Ukraine and raised in rural USA. My adoptive parents divorced when I was age 10 leaving mom and me poor. Mom had issues and I started raising myself by age 13. By age 14 when gymnastics season was over I was able to work. I got hired by a property management company that taught me a lot about remodeling rental units. I was in my first year of community college when the pandemic hit. I got into a funk and old habits resurfaced and an exercise addiction came back big time. More time on hand and gyms closed was not good. I accidentally got hired at Menards and the put in the building materials dept and I worked in the yard. I met lots of guys in construction as home remodeling became the thing to do for homeowners. Some guys appreciated my knowledge and spirit and physique and decided to hire me full time in construction. I've learned a lot and the more I learn the more I know I need to learn. I love channels like these--I'm a huge Matt Risinger and the Perkins Builder Brothers fans. I've learned a lot about drywalling from the Vancouver Carpenter. I'll look for your channel DoomDuck1. Anton
Hey I see your channel is not building or construction? But I subscribed anyway.
Love this book! czcams.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!
Anyone else watch this and think, Oh I totally could do this with no prior experience whatsoever
I know I can't... but I think that everytime. He makes it look easy.
Bro I can build houses! Learned it on CZcams!🤥
this was me but i actually said f it and did it, so far everything is holding up i even tore down the wall that seperated my shower and toilet so i can make my shower way bigger its honestly pretty easy but alot of time and patience like anything else and you can do it too
Can’t get experience without trial and error.
Thats what he does.....
The faucets/lines etc should be on the opposite wall in my opinion. The entry into the tub being right into the side of the toilet is a strange choice.
Yeah, he probably didn't want to move the entire plumbing. This would've been better with a sliding door system instead of a fixed glass.
I work all day remodeling then come home to watch you do it. I regret nothing
Alot of these DIY channels that I watch seem so perfect and then when I try to do the jobs I get so frustrated with myself because I'm making mistakes and the other guys didn't make any. I'm happy to see you filmed your mistakes to show you are human and it's very encouraging!
Im a licensed plumber, for the water spout you should not use a galvanized nipple they can rust out and corrode over time and cause major problems. You can make a copper one or use brass or stainless steal. Great video other than that
Great work! I would have moved the plumbing to the other side so the user isn't stepping towards the toilet.
He only would have needed to move the shower head and drain too because keeping the handle on the current side would help so you don't get soaked turning on the shower haha
Practical? Yes, but where i live you cant fit pipes for water in outer walls due to frost.
also you don't install water pipes or fixture on exterior walls.
Looks good but one thing I can’t help but notice is a lot of the tile have repetitive pattern. There’s a bunch of the same exact tile print throughout the shower. Before tiling anything, lay out the expected tiles on a flat surface so patterns don’t repeat themselves too frequently.
Yeah agreed, this is why offsetting is usually preferred. As soon as your eyes see that "grid" pattern, you then try to look for more patterns
I watched the whole video stupid. It looks like crap either way.
Literally perfect timing because I need to do this exact same thing for my first bathroom remodel this month! Appreciate the content man! Courage and sweat 💪🏽💯
The comment sounds like you remodel your bathroom twice per month 💀
you probably could
If you have any questions on the plumbing, feel free to reach out!
The sad part is you change the tub for a smaller one 😢 I used to live in an apartment with a roman tub and it was so good to relax in it, rectangular ones feel to cramp for me
The problem with the fix shower glass is you have to enter to the tub by the side of the toilet, it would be better if the shower was on the other side and also the glass
My thoughts exactly. Should of made a sliding door or s/t. I also don't like that the shower is not completely closed, letting in cold air and potentially allowing water to get out.
Omg you’re right. I didn’t notice
he would have to redo the entire shower then, the faucet and shower were already placed on that side - much bigger job
Learned a good trick from my contractor friend that I'd thought I'd share: staple a large piece of roofing paper to the sub floor then put down a layer of mortar for the tub to sit in. When its dry the floor of the tub will feel solid and won't have any give to it.
Looks great but I am just wondering if the glass is not supposed to go in the other way? I would imagine the inside gets scrubbed the most so having the 'decalls' on that side may have them wear down faster.
3:47 ... Is it me or can I see several code violations with that washer and dryer? NO vapor barrier on back wall of the tub, open wall, plumbing running next to electrical boxes, plumbing outside the studs (near the overflow drain), 4 connections to the main cold feed water line, electrical romex not stapled to the wall above the water feed lines for the washer, a vent for the dryer making a sharp bend then going vertical which could cause lint to build up in the vent thus resulting in a possible fire hazard... Probably more issues I am not seeing??
Water and frameless glass should be on the other side 😊
Was thinking the same thing since it’s the side the toilet is on
Beautiful! Back in the day an old tile guy sad to ALLWAYS! Hold the backer board 1/8” above the tub or shower pan rim and place a spacer where the wall tile meets the tub or shower rim to be filled with backer rod & sealant as well as to rake the grout out of the inside vertical wall corners as with hot and cold expansion/contraction these joints should be filled with a color matching sanded sealant to accommodate expansion/contraction.
When any of that stuff starts leaking it becomes a HUGE pain!
Why no amazing tiled full stand up shower??
Perfect timing! Ive been eyeing the shower and stall in my master for a makeover for the last couple of months!!!
You make it look so easy! Gives me motivation to explore this route and do it myself. Because if you can then so can I! 😄
I think it looks great. Some suggestions. The valve is too high. You should be able to turn off the tub from sitting in the tub. Also as someone mentioned below, I agree that with that glass and the toilet being where it is, getting in/out might be a pain. At the same time, relocating the plumbing would have been a PITA. I would have just gone for a shower curtain though as that removes that issue.
Finally, instead of cutting into the tub for the glass frame, I would have instead rounded off the channel the glass sits in. This way if ever in the future you want to remove the glass, you can. Now you have no choice but to keep it, plus you've added potential place for a leak that you will never see until it's too late and you could get a bad mold problem.
+1
Or a sliding glass door would have solved the trick and been cleaner than a curtain
Valve too high: Fair point, but isn't that personal preference? What if you shower 99% of the time?
Getting in and out is a pain: Maybe for an old person or someone with a disability... Space is often at a premium and compromises have to be made. Using a shower curtain instead would look cheap/tacky; I haven't seen a single bathroom with shower curtain set up that looks as good as a nice glass screen or sliding door. I'd rather have some slight restriction on getting in/out of the shower compared to a curtain that will just end up looking rubbish.
Cutting into the tub issue: He would have likely had to round off the glass as well, the corner of the screen likely goes beyond the skin of the bath. Cutting away the bath here may have been the only option. A better bath tub choice in the first place may have been the better move, but you can't anticipate every problem.
I’m so glad you posted I am looking to remodel mine soon 🤘
Thank you so much for this video!! I have been wanting to do my two baths and was intimidated to remove the preexisting wrap around! Not any more! 🎉
Looks awesome. Those tiles really made it.
Awesome job! Love Shower remodels
im a shower curtain kinda guy,
so can someone please explain how the awkward shuffle he's going to have to do to get past the toilet is worth the aesthetic? the clear path to get into the shower is blocked by the glass that doesnt slide or move?
I was thinking the same thing others have posted, that with a fixed piece of glass it's probably awkward to turn on the shower/tub. I suppose if it's a 5 ft tub it's not impossible to turn it on without being in the shower, but I think I would have gone with either a center door or perhaps barn door style sliding doors for a tub/shower like this -- maybe not as stylish but more practical day-to-day.
I was thinking the same, but if it's for kids they might just get a kick out of getting rained on to turn on the shower
Well done as usual. I love the tiles.
Wouldn't putting thinset on the drywall compound rewet the compound and cause adhering issues since the drywall mud has really nowhere to air out once the membrane is put over it. I would think using hot mud would've been a better option or a liquid waterproofing membrane membrane.
Where did you get that small round tub? I’m putting in a basement bathroom in and a small tub would be perfect.
Great job! Love it.
Cool concept but not sure if I like the way it looks. Not to mention you're going to have to get in each time to turn on the water. Awesome video!
looks good. just need to swap out that galvanized pipe before it causes rapid corrosion from the mixing of metals!
No drywall behind your washer/dryer?
Beautiful job on the bathroom
dang it looks so good
Just an FYI with the drop ears. 1/2” of brass pipe into the drop ear and 1/2” into the fixture. So once you recess the drop ear, backer board, and tile, measure from the finished tile to the face of the drop ear and add 1/2” into the drop ear and 1/2” into the fixture and that’s how you will get the brass pipe you will need.
Great work!!!ove your channel and work.🙋🏾♂️😉👍🏾
Great job!!!!!!
looks awesome!
The way you said "Simba style" I was dying of laughter btw love your videos
I was waiting for the other door/ wall, but I guess this is a modern standard?
1:52 You would NOT want to remodel my bathroom in my apartment. The contractor (couch couch) used PVC molding (at the top) of the side and rear walls of the tub. Instead of changing out the toilet, they 'notched' out a part of the trim on the right side of the tub to allow the handle to flush the toilet. At the base of the tub they used the same PVC molding ... A complete botched job. OH and in my living room where there was wood paneling and a hole in such. They used a piece of sheetrock, rubber red electrical tape around the seams and then placed a 1/4" thick amount of joint compound over the area. Yah... I got photos!
Did you link the tile? Just asking because I did not see it. Someone help me if I'm overlooking it. Wonderful job, Thanks!
Looks good but the glass is upside down always put the stamp on the glass in the bottom corner
FYI: Using a galvanized steel to copper connection will eventually cause a chemical reaction which can lead to leaks...
Yep.
Guess we are going to see a video about how to change an fix it in a few years
A pair of pliers and channel locks is a great way to remove tub drains too.
Pretty sure mating galvanized pipe into a brass or copper fitting is not a good idea as it will cause rapid galvanic corrosion. May want to look more into this; luckily it's easy enough for you to swap them out after install if it needs to be changed.
Galvanized can go to brass as they are not dissimilar metals. If the galvanized went to the copper then the corrosion would begin the corrosion. Brass can mate to nearly all metals and have no issues
Wouldn’t you want to stagger the tile pattern on the main wall?
I `have just binged watched 3 years into 3 months and. HIT REALITY Jesus I will have to slow down my watching to keep uo!
Tiles look good man! ive seen expensive houses with tiles issues so dont think about it!
You should try using kerdi board instead of greenboard + membrane. Less work, tile the same day, etc.
broo u such a great guy thx 4 sharing this project means a lot to me
I prefer the shower head on the same side of the toilet wall, so i have more room to step into the tub vs having to go around the toilet to get in the tub.
Nice!!
Now add a green live wall some vintage gold lighting and a circle black framed mirror and your golden
what is the rack system you use to hold your tools in your shop?
for drilling in tiles best are glass drills, no hammer
man that's some rough drywall work at 9:55 lol
THe first video i saw by you was the other bathroom/steam room remodel. when you got to the water proofing membrane, my heart stopped because i remembered the disaster you had last time where the membrane didnt stick.
Very Nice. Except for you having to get in the shower to turn it on.
This is why I had my plumbers run the valves to the far wall of my shower (separate tub). this way you can turn on the water and the shower head is on the far end. yes it's more plumbing, but I never have to get wet to turn on my shower. it's right the by the entrance to the shower.
I didn’t think sheetrock could hold the weight of tile… Would it not be better to use cement board?
Bingo. Never do anything this guy does
The membrane attaching to the drywall is a perfectly fine application. While that’s true, I would for peace of mind go with cement board and not worry about it.
I think these are great.
Love the remodel, but can’t get over that glass.. To each their own though!
I was like oh I can do this... then I saw the blood! Simba style lol
Why only one shower door? Does it open or slide? Have to enter the toilet side?
Love the thumbnail!
for anyone watching and is worried about the thin set... just buy Schluter "All-Set" thin set.
Where’s that platform bed frame from?! I want it!
That thumbnail really be teasing 💦🫠
I will be tiling my guest bathroom and I will be coming back to your videos to make sure I do it correctly.
FYI: Be sure to watch other bathroom remodel videos. Although "Mr. Build it" makes it look easy he doesn't always do it correctly. There are several missteps in this video as identified in the comments. The one that bothers me the most is his failure to observe the "pattern" printed on the tiles. Even if you mix tiles between several boxes when installing (as you should) you should stop and look at the next tile you plan on putting up and make sure it doesn't have the same exact pattern as the tile above or below it. For example. if you look at the finished project he installed three full tiles on the left side of the back wall on top of each other that are almost identical. I can't unsee it! I give him props for is renovations and remodel videos but hes not a perfectionist (which can also be a curse) .
Love it
I would be a nervous wreck having to drill through the tile I just laid. Looks great!
My thoughts: “oh nice, another Mr. Build It video.” Then, “oh no, I don’t think I can click on that thumbnail with a clear conscience.” ;)
Shameless click bait 😂
You know watching your videos inspired me to do my first home reno! I added a new outlet behind my tv (wall mounted) so the wire doesn't hang down anymore and I used your dry wall repair video to fix the drywall after
My only comment is that I would look at a glass enclosure that has an opening so that when you turn on the shower you do not have to climb in to turn it on and get freezing cold water shooting at you
Maybe rounding off the bracket corner would be better than putting a hole in the tub. Yikes !!
Surprised you don't have the Ryobi Pex Clamp.
A lazer level would have really helped keep that important middle grout line straight, but looks great
Crazy to me how new stuff is probably installed before a house is sold only to be immediately torn out.
Would rather have quality products. 99% of the time it is builders grade and just trash. It will hold you over until you can get the good stuff installed.
That looks nice, but all I can think about is how there would be no heat retention in the shower. Curtains and full glass doors will lock in some of the heat and steam, this setup would force you to be under the stream of water to get the warmth.
Can you link the tile supplier in the description? I don't see it yet 👀
Rain fall shower head ! very cool. Why the lack and channel interaction with viewers ?
Need a wrecking day shirt!
before installing the tile, i would have looked at the pattern, so that i dont have white lines that are cut off in the middle by the fact that the tile is changed
Are we not going to talk about the missing sheetrock behind the washer and dryer?
Holy shit lmao, I didn't even notice that was the washer/dryer until seeing the comments here. That is NUTS. Cannot be up to any kind of code.
That might be from this video? czcams.com/video/A034hca0C3M/video.html
@@xxbondsxx the weird thing is, in that video you can clearly see there was drywall there! He must have come back later and removed it for some reason.
It is very likely he has many projects going on at the same time to keep videos moving along / on schedule..
why isn't their drywall behind your washer and dryer?
What is that flying across the window @ 2:34??
Lol those gaskets are designed to be installed with the tub in place. You didn’t have to remove it.
I’m always wondering why you guys never remove the stuff laying around the area you’re working in dose it not get dusty??
Haha was wondering when the shower curtain rod and toilet paper was going to be removed!!
pretty damn fantastic!:)
Wait what happened to the home gym
Can you turn it on without being 100% in shower?
Why not cut the aluminum glass track to the same profile of the tub in lieu of cutting a hole in the tub!?
Now you’ve comprised the tub and when the caulking fails you’ll have a leak
came here to say this. that leak is inevitable.
I was screaming at my monitor while he did it!
same same
RIP to anyone wearing headphones as he ripped the bathtub out 😂 but it looks amazing!
5:05 "What I personally love about a Starry Night mattress is" - I got it for free for plugging the product!
Dope
We are where we are said every great husband!😂
