I found out recently that my great-grandfather sold snake oil in Kansas in the Nineteenth Century. "Lassell's All-Healing Balsam." Sadly, I don't have the recipe.
The story is, he did get the recipe from a railroad worker.

Watching this episode for the 2nd time, and I got to say, if I was going to do what you and your friends do I'd be the snake oil salesmen. My mind overruns with ideas for a character like this. To bad my health is so poor; I could never do several shows in a day, most especially in the Arizona summer heat.

Can actually get a .357 or .44 quite easy for fox or target if you own you own field just apply otherwise join a target club and you'll have the license in about 6 months

It's some of the most beautiful currency ever printed. Especially love the "educational series" notes that began in the mid-1890s.
Thanks again Santee & Co. When I was in the navy stationed in Japan , the bars had a couple bottles of Habu Sake on the shelf . Habu Sake is sake with a snake pickled inside , and was supposed to have that extra kick . Maybe your connection can get you some .

I had to get out of selling snake-oil myself. But now I enlist people to sell the snake-oil and I get a commission for it. They, in turn, enlist more people who sell snake-oil and give them a commission. It actually works out pretty well.

My great grandmother kept an empty bottle of medicine which claimed to cure loose stool. Considering how high of a percentage of opiates were claimed to be in the wonder elixir I think it probably worked and if it didn't, at least you wouldn't be bothered by the problem anymore anyway.
Yeah! Most were just pain killers. Like today. You know things like NyQuil don't cure you. They just take away the symptoms so you can sleep.

Snake Oil has a similar history to bitters - the latter of which was originally intended for use as a medical cure, but these days is mostly known as a cocktail ingredient. Sadly, the same law that lead to the downfall of snake oil also lead to most of the various bitters brands going by the wayside!
