Sick video man I heard that some people find Ned’s harder than corkscrew. Based off that video it looks much easier than corkscrew
Ned’s is significantly easier than corkscrew IMO. The only thing that makes Ned’s challenging is you can carry so much speed down it and a few of the corners can sneak up on ya. So I’d suggest just taking the first lap easy and get kinda familiar with it. But besides that it’s a nice easy trail.

The new Neds rebuild is pretty epic. I definitely foresee some fast laps down that trail 🤙🏻

I’d consider all of Ned’s to be a blue. The difficulty is 100% speed related so if you are interested in carrying a bunch of speed it can be a little difficult but for the most part it is a fairly standard north shore blue trail (albeit trail forks rates it as a black diamond because it was more difficult prior to the rebuild)

To get to Ned’s you essentially are forced to take a black diamond trail, unless you climb up from the Baden Powell trail or power line access road. So I guess that would likely be the most difficult part of the ride.
Pathetic how they ruined yet another Shore classic. Paving it would of saved a lot of hassle later.
There are a few features that were lost on the new build, but all in all it was an improvement in the trail in my opinion.
The old Ned’s was basically a creek bed and although you could get going pretty quick on a DH bike it wasn’t necessarily a fun trail on a lower travel bike.
I do agree that it’s sad to lose the original trails that made the shore so well known, and in an ideal world they could’ve left Neds as it was and just cut in a new line beside it, but I’m not quite sure how all the logistics work between the trail associations and the city.
@@CoastTimesMTB Obviously you are new to this. The old trail was perfect in the wet, and yes, could have used drainage but was all rock and perfect for wet riding. The new trail, all flow, has no challenge, feature or interest. Moreover, the use of soil will wear out, and when it rains, as it does here, all the "smoothness" you love will wear out fast, requiring constant work the old trail did not need. But what would a rider of the Shore of 42 years know? I know this....the new trail was done for pure litigious reasons as Metro, the land manager, is all about low liability (see upper Dales, or Cambodia for reference) and with the work it was only to placate their low liability mandate. If flow was the shit ask this: why was it not around 20 years ago (I was there)? Easy: why ruin natural terrain, why create work (in the use of gold which anyone with any time will tell you is useless in a wet environment as it erodes fast) and why do something anyone can do anywhere when what you have is unique. Look at all of all the REALLY classic PNW trails (or just Shore trails) and they are all about the natural terrain.....Wild Cherry, 5th Horsemen, Boogieman, Upper Oilcan, Bookwus, Ladies Only, Crippler, Grannies....you get the idea. Trails that stand the test of time, and the new Neds will not. And the riders going down the aforementioned trails.....world of difference. Different universe, actually.
We may be new to this in comparison to you, but I grew up riding Ned’s in mid 2000s.
It was a fun trail, I’m not questioning that at all. I do agree it was built to stand the test of time and was well ridden in the rain.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day the decision to change trails isn’t up to me, and to an extent they are bound to change as people of various skill sets ride the trail. Obviously, liability is a major concern, and janky old woodwork and features when not maintained pose a major liability.
I completely agree that all the classic trails on the shore are what built the character of our MTB scene, but I just rode upper oil can this morning and although some of the woodwork was in reasonable shape, there was also woodwork in need of maintenance.
At the end of the day, I agree it’s a shame that the trails change, and that we are losing some of the character of the shore, but I’m not here to argue anything that I have very little voice in.
Upper Oilcan needs no work on the wood. Trust me. It is in impeccable shape (and the new log ride is trick I go down this on a regular run. But if you support the NSMBA, which I am sure you do, they are NOT fighting for the SOUL of mountain biking on the Shore as it was, and if that was being done, the new Neds would of never happened, or Espresso, or Lower Digger. It is not about change but the direction of change, and given the riders today, instead of making the rider fit for the trail it is all about making the trail fit for the rider, and that is pathetic. And sad ,and no legacy that will last. I can't imagine how it will be in 10 years when the riders as is are already braiding the new Neds. How more simple is that? @@CoastTimesMTB
Again, I’m not arguing that it’s unfortunate that change is occurring to the trails, and hopefully the soul remains intact. Only time will tell. unfortunately, the battle was lost with Neds, but hopefully the war can still be won.
