Back in the dirty ol’ Boston days (60s-90s), we didn’t go to Southie unless there was a festival, where the IRA had an ‘inconspicuous’ booth with pictures of Bobby Sands and rubber bullets. The Orange & Blue Lines south were off limits, unless going to Logan. Nothing romantic about it. It was a dangerous s-hole made famous by movies and tv shows. Respect to the real people who grew up there, loved it and still call it home.
I’ve always have had this soft spot for Boston. Sincerely a Texan who’s a die hard Red Sox fan

Love the Southie, my local is on the Old Colony and the neighborhood really changed in the las 15 or so years....
I don’t live in Southie but I work there and am there everyday. There are definitely pros and cons to how much it’s changed. I’m only 31 years old so vaguely remember how it used to be but it’s done a complete 180 since even 10 years ago. The rent is astronomical. Average is probably around $3,000-$3500 a month. Our company just finished building condos on West Broadway across from Capo and they all sold in a couple of days- minimum $990,000 for a 550 square foot studio. It’s insane that a million dollar condo is that small.

People can show nostalgia for the old neighborhood, it happens everywhere, but for old south or people still there they should remember it changed because people just like them cashed out and at living in scituate, Pembroke and Cape Cod. Not the fault of the new residents that it changed.
All mammals, insects, alligators, octopii are territorial. Being proud of being raised in South Boston is like being proud of being raised in Chernobyl/Little Rock/Squantum. With a touch of Brockton. Not that there's anything wrong with that..

We say ya’ll n ant up in the north east cahh, qwautuh😀😂But i got sum family n friends up there also in ohio too. New yorks sumtn also. Good n bad everywhere. My father in law is from Connecticut. He told me i say maa a lot🤣😂Too damn cold though!!

@@keeppunchin2302 Oh man I'd definitely say closer to 2000, but I think the signs were already there by the late 90s. My family has all since died and I live in Texas these days. Last time I was in Southie was about 3 years ago and it looks like a completely different place now. It's just so damn sad. Our neighborhood is gone, replaced by yuppies and millennials who moved there and gentrified us.
Those who stayed are pretty happy now and very rich

The best coffee in Southie is Sidewalk Cafe. 100x better than Dunks or Starbucks. If you live in Southie and haven’t been there- do yourself a favor and go. It’s legitimately the best coffee I’ve ever had anywhere.

Yuppies ruin the sense of community, loyalty, solidarity, etc not just in Southie but all across the state and the country. Yeah I understand crime is down, but there is no more originality. Boston accents are going away. Im from the north shore and everyone I grew up with had some kind of accent. My teen daughter and her generation sound like every other kid on tiktok from wherever the fuck. I don’t know. I don’t like this new world man.

I'm from Iowa and had to go to Boston to work for about 3 weeks having never been there before. The way those people live is shocking, the neighborhoods all need to be leveled with a bulldozer. In the movie The Departed when they are in the convenience store and the Italian mob guy says to the store owner "These are dirty, dirty people".
