    well, I don't disagree with you but it is even better if you just learn everything, I mean for me I use macos, linux and windows all at the same time, I use intellij, visual studio, vscode, neovim... I mean like all of them are good and not all of them are good for what you're doing, just pick the right tool for the right thing. most of the things including vim motion and multi cursor and stuff they are all available for all IDEs not just vim, the reason why I try to use everything is so that I know for sure that something is good or bad.

    open source doesn't pay bills. even if it does, most open source project get funded by "proprietary" organizations. why would an experienced developer work on something like this without funding.
    other major open source projects are from these big corporations themselves e.g. facebook, microsoft or google etc. they give full time salaries to engineers working on their open source projects.

    • @siddid7620

      yk what u got a point fair enough. I think companies helped linux develop more than community in this case. But that being said, most of these coorporations only leech off of opensource for their own gain. They don't actually promote it's use. They promote the use of their own bloated spyware. Which is my main problem with them. They then steal your data and charge you making ridiculous money from that. Lobby against data privacy laws and take your rights.

    • @garyg3327
      @garyg3327 Před rokem +1

      It does pay bills. You are just rationalizing your laziness to invest time in learning it. You never got to a point of doing anything worth protecting. That's why you are ok with using spyware software.

    • @alexmercerind
      @alexmercerind Před rokem +2

      @@garyg3327 no it doesn't. you can't feed a developer's family and pay his bills with few voluntary coffee amount donations.
      still, most people who even fund or donate to open source software are the people who themselves have money in their pocket. some people just simply use open source software because it doesn't cost anything (and they don't want to spend) not because they actually prefer it as compared to proprietary software.
      privacy & rights to repair/modify etc. are completely different concern. and this is where corporate greed comes in.

    2. Alt+Shift+DownArrow (with a line selected) to "yank" and copy.
    3. Ctrl+Q - opens explorer to copy/open/move/rename files, create dirs, etc.

    Nice clip. from my view it ultimately comes down to can a solution make its case. adobe programs really cant be touched by alternatives, even with cancer embedded, even versus other proprietary solution, and by extension this makes windows necessarily appealing if you're looking to use it, throw in win-sclusive OSS sharex etc and it is game over for many personal machines that might otherwise find themselves occupied by other environments. business wise of course the laws are set in stone, in hebrew and yiddish language. vim really is untouchable regardless though.

I am heavily against these 100USD-a-year IDE's as they spy on you, are bloated and promote digital illiteracy by making everything so damn GUI-y. Linting and all those dev-like functionalities are all available on neovim/vim through the use of FOSS plugins which you can find repos for on github. I'd encourage someone to do this insead of spending 1 hour clicking a bunch of stuff on pycharm to get half the functionality they can get out of box from something like neovim coc-install pyright.

      @@pinkSid--- I can understand your concern about privacy. We don't know what they do internally and what data these propriatory softwares share.
      That being one of the worst aspects of propriatory software. I think we should still acknoledge when priopriatory software does something just as good or better.
      I feel that FOSS fans(me included), don't spend more time using the priopriatory software(quite understandable) and thus we don't have full context on the functionalities and capabilities of the priopriatory software. I had to use intellij and vscode in my company and they work just good. I can do all the things that you mentioned quite easily without using mouse in them with or without the vim plugin. And the performance lag was not noticible. On the top of that I did not have to spend time setting up linting and debugger for that language. I think we cannot just say FREE software does better in ALL the aspects. Everything has pros and cons. Lets just admit that.
