Hello Mary, I cannot get enough of your videos. If I was only 10 years younger........I am also from Canada deciding where to move. Just to share a story with you, a friend of mine built a purification system for one of the local tribes by using certain kind of plants. They were so impressed by it he became their Shaman and as a reward they gave him 20 hectars of the property on East coast of CR which he will be dividing into parcels for sale after building basic infrastructure to access the property. I wonder if you've heard of anything like that? I am a big fan of yours, stay strong and safe!!!

No judgement. Gratitude for sharing. I'm on the East Coast of Australia an hour and a half south of Sydney. It used to be temperate zone, but now we're high humidity sub tropical. So, ginger and banana and avocado and mangoes are really pretty happy-go-lucky.
Anywho, we flooded in a torrential downpour 48hrs ago. And like yourself was feeling a bit despondent and all the fences got pushed over and flash flooding caused a lot of carnage. When I went down to check the fence line my neighbours were out and I didn't know who'd moved in and then I realised I knew them very well from years ago. Single mum with her eleven children. Well, they're all grown up and we had instant community. We dug the holes out and put the fences back in and I helped them by giving them seedlings and we planted a new banana circle and sweet potato vines together.
Had it not flooded I wouldn't have known there was community of Indigenous people that I'd looked out for 12 years ago just behind me.
I guess it reminded me that loneliness and isolation is just a construct. So, your community is waiting for you, too.
And I hope that you can heal.

Do you know of Finca Tierra? They do some amazing things on their farm. I think once you get your water situation fixed and maybe add an outdoor shower you’ll feel rejuvenated. You look lovely and have so much beauty around you. Try and focus on one project at a time. Blessings from California!

Hi you doing good and a very strong person indeed, proud of you 💪💪....I'm a native born in a tropic climate just like that, its quite challenging with the humidity and heat during the draught time. As a native we live in a very well knitted and close community, we share the task, we share the joy and difficulty together. It is not far from what you had in your vision, I hope you will have your community in the near future. A thing to share, dedicate a clothing when working with your land, long shirt, long pants and a gardening hat would help protect you from the heat, mosquito and scratch, cant avoid the sweating though. I believe you still have that running water contaminated with the blue pipe, for time being wrap the tap with cloth as a filter. Bought a machete, it can be very useful beside a grass cutter and chainsaw. For us, a machete, a lighter and a water is like a best friend....You have a pristine land out there, all the best for you. I'm your subscriber from now on 😉

I would build a gravity filter, collect the water in a tank and just use the middle part, so you have already lighter and heavier parts filtered, then I would use sand and charcoal to filter it further, maybe boil it before drinking.

My husband and I lived in CR for a few months and were thinking about buying land and starting a small farm there or in Panama. Your videos are so helpful to us because you're so raw and completely transparent about the harsh realities that comes with building a farm and adjusting to living in another country. CZcamsrs like you are very rare to find. Most people make a highlight reel of everything which is nice but very frustrating at times because it comes off like everything is easy peasy and they're all chipper and happy everyday which comes off as fake. We all know life is challenging and I'm happy you're sharing your wins and L's. We also felt similarly to you, in regards to not having a community. We felt so isolated. Lack of community is definitely a concern of ours as we plan the next step in our life. It sucks to feel alone. People have recommended Facebook and Whatsapp groups so maybe we'll try harder to reach out and connect with people the next time we fly out there. Anyways, so happy I found your channel and wish you the very best turning your land into home. Looking forward to your next video!

Wow. Thank youso much for this touching comment. I agree..alot of costa rica life videos on youtube make it seem so paradisical..but what gies with that is a lot of strife and struggle..and adaptation. But i still think its worth it.

Just advice. Start to clear everything around your house, put a garden in. Keep it nice around your immediate vicinity. Plant trees everywhere else and just clear aroubd them. Its too much work for one person. Source: I have about 15,000 meters of jungle too. It's very overwheleming.
