  • The helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian may have been due to a missing or deactivated transponder, according to an initial investigation by the Turkish rescue team that located the wreckage.

    The transponder, whether it was working or not, or even fitted for that matter, had absolutely nothing to do with the accident.

      You ate absolutely right. Erdogan doesn't know what he is talking about. He is speaking rubbish as usual. Transponder is a satellite tracking device. It receives signals and transmit back signals in response. It has got nothing to do with the navigation of aircraft.

      @@TR_Emeritus The transponder relies on a ground radar station to work. If the helicopter is within ground radar range then yes it is being tracked with the aid of the transponder. If not, then no. My guess is they were not in range of ground radar immediately before the accident, therefore the transponder would not have been of any assistance in locating the helicopter.

    • @CCLow-jr7um
      @CCLow-jr7um Před 23 dny +1

      @@TR_Emeritus It's not the cause of the crash. It doesn't interfere with navigation systems. Transponder is like a radio, receives signal and sends back confirmation signals in response. It is a tracker so that flight controller at station know where the assigned flight number is. All commercial and passenger planes are required to have have transponders on them. Not mandatory for small private planes.

    Of course, the chopper could not activate after it was crashed. Because the electrical could be crashed too.

    Considering who was onboard they probably turned it off to prevent hostle tracking.
    A similar incident happenned in NZ to virtually the same aircraft in similar conditions . They also just missed the lower "v" of the valley. Very easy to do in mountain flying. They were on route to an ANZAC day ceremony. Even the wreckage looks similar.
    I hope nobody uses this to pour fuel on 6e fires of conflict already raging on the middle east. I love helicopter's, but we all no the risk's on using them. Wishing everyone that reads this peace in this time.

    ELT is always turned off when officials fly. Even new chippers crash in bad weather. Age had nothing to do with it. Avionics and power-plant get upgrades as technology advances.

    • @brodricj3023
      @brodricj3023 Před 23 dny

      Not quite right. The ELT is self contained, the pilot has no interaction with it at all. In the Bell 212 it is usually fitted to the pillar behind the pilot seat. Given the impact forces and fire it provided no assistance at all, assuming one was fitted.
