  • Jaco, Costa Rica is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Costa Rica for good reason. There are amazing beaches, plenty of activities, friendly Ticos (people from Costa Rica) and a good tourist infrastructure, however there are some drawbacks to this great place, one being the tourist nature of the town which takes away some of the Tico-ness of the city, the riptides that can be dangerous and the resort centric feel of certain parts of town.

    That was my favorite vacation I've been on. Went during jungle jam this year. It's a music festival in the middle of the jungle. Epic . Then had a day of fishing out of los suenos. Caught 14 sail fish. I can't wait to go back. Pura vida

    We've been trying to weigh up whether or not to go to Jaco and this video has been quite helpful with getting more of a feel for the place. We'd heard it is quite touristy there, but I guess the benefit of that is having all of the tourist infrastructure.

    For those not wanting the "Touristyness" of Jaco, I always stay in Tarcoles, a small, authentic fishing village about 20 kilometers north of Jaco. And for the best authentic Tico fish soup, check out Fiesta del Mariscos.

    I would like say to everyone that jaco is probably the most turistic Beach in Costa Rica along with other other beaches like Manuel Antonio and tamarindo, but even so is not nearly as crowded or turistic as any Beach in the US.

    • @LuchoCastle_11
      @LuchoCastle_11 Před 5 lety

      It is the most touristic, but it's not the most visited, the most popular beach in Costa Rica by far is "El Puerto" the Puntarenas Beach, waaaay to many locals go there for a day or two during vacation, I understand why many Americans don't go there, because there really isn't anything interesting touristic-wise in that area.

    Jacó Is only expensive if you live expensive, but how about swapping a 4 star resort for a 2 star hostel for like 1/3 of the price, instead on eating on American fast food chains or fancy coffee shops, go to a soda for 1/3 of the price and then just enjoy yourself, drink local beer and have a good time. No need to empty your wallet over it.

Hotels and everything else came after. San Jose reminds me of a little Bklyn. Same experience minus the beach. Pura Vida. Looks like you standing next to the BWestern.

    I've have watched many of your videos from around the world. I lived in Costa Rica for 3 years. My husband and I owned a 5 acre rancho in the mountains of the Central Valley. What you say about Jaco is pretty true. However, it surprises me how many sites and videos talk about "the happiest people in the world" and you talk about HOW nice and helpful they are in Jaco. And during the "season" they certainly are. However, from personal experience, we employed a chef and caretaker on our property, the DO NOT LIKE AMERICANS! And, in Jaco particularly, that friendliness you get, is all show for $$$$$$. After the season ends, they are become actually rude to us "local" foreigners. Now, if you go just on the other side of that hill behind on the beach, where you are standing, to Herradura Beach, where the beautiful and peaceful Los Suenos Resort is, you will find a more genuine kind and happy Ticos. But I know this video is about Jaco. The SIXTH thing you will hate about Jaco is the prostitution and drugs at night. And the Sixth thing you will love about Jaco (or anywhere in Costa Rica in the month of December) are the world famous Horse Topes/parades. The largest and most famous being held in San Jose in December where 1000s of horses parade down the street! Anyway, I enjoy your videos, wish you would slow down when doing then though. You always seem out of breath! LOL Pura Vida. And locals really don't go around saying that to each other, that's another tourist thing! hehehehe Enjoy! It's an amazing country for sure!

    I just returned to Miami on Sunday September 23rd for best 4 day vacation I've ever had. It was a guys trip with 4 buddies of mine. My truthful observation is that it is not a very family oriented place I don't know why that wasn't mentioned here. Jaco has a buffet of the most beautiful women imaginable now to protect the men I wont any more on that. Families beware single guys it'll be the time of your lives. You have to die to be any closer to Heaven.

    I think I’d enjoy the sodas. I love local social/eatery type places.

      +brighton dude the sodas are a must. one of the best parts of visiting costa rica.

      Absolutely! If you end up in Jaco, there are a few sodas around where the locals go. Just ask! And even though the surrounding area is touristy, you’re still going to see much lower prices there. You can have a hearty lunch or dinner for the equivalent of around $6 or $7 American dollars. Which is another thing you’ll love about Jaco and the rest of Costa Rica. You can pay in dollars if you don’t have Cost Rican currency with you (colones).

    One thing that people may not like, especially people with children, are the prostitutes. Most of them used to go to The Beatle Bar but that closed down so they went to the resorts. There is a new place they hang out, Hotel Cocal & Casino, but they still can be seen at resorts.
    Yes, the Ticos and Ticas are very nice people and the Imperial Beer is delicious.

    If you’re visiting Costa Rica, Jack is a great destination. Most people like and want a lot of what was disliked in this video. Convenience is a good thing while on vacation. If you travel to Costa Rica often, avoid Jaco. The surf is no joke. I stay in Vista Las Palmas and watch a swimmer get drug out of the surf and they didn’t survive. Covid restrictions and requirements are a real turn off right now so wait until all of this crap passes.

    I have been here for over 3 weeks. Nature and the beaches are fantastic. However, this is not a place for kids. Overall the place is shady. The other evening we were going out for tacos and I got offered cocaine twice within 5 mins. Later in the evenings, it is typical to see prostitutes on the main street as well as over 200 in one particular hotel. If you are young and love to party and live on the edge, this could be a fun place for you. For families and older people, I do not recommend Jaco.
