- Today I hook up the stereo system in The Mule and test it out! I wire up the Sony DSX-GS80 head unit, iPad mini, NVX five channel amplifier and the NVX DSP. I adjust the system and see how it sounds. Next episode we will build the sub woofer box for a single ten inch NVX sub woofer.

Dude, you are AMAZING! The fusion of laughter and car stereo is so important to offset those moments where you find your self cussing and shouting and nursing painful impact spots on your body. I LOVE most of the Drum and Bass you play....im a DJ and thats one of my musical flavors. I notice youre no longer teasing C.A.F. which saddens me. I never saw C.A.F. makes jokes in return. I LOVE C.A.F. as well , amazing channel but i love watching yours cause its like entertainment AND education, SOUNDMAN is THA MAN!

Doug, I saw your video thumbnail this morning but was not able to watch it peacefully on the toilet as I had pretty bad diarrhea and didn't want to ruin the occasion. I watched it now some 12 hours later, and I cannot believe you went with a mechless Sony headunit. You always rubbished their Xplod speakers! Anyway I have the Sony 5300BT unit in my car and it's pretty good, does bluetooth well and doesn't crash, haven't even had a firmware update in 3 years.

I'm commenting when I'm only able 7 mins into this video... If you're doing DSP out of that head unit, make sure you toggle the MEGABASS off (it can only be toggled off using the center button on the front of the radio. It should go to about 46 without clipping... Should 😂 ALSO turn off DSO in the menu

Man if they'd develop a way to connect an auto reverse cam and have legit Carplay on the iPad. I'd make the switch right now. My DSP has bluetooth and a volume control knob. It'd be so stupid easy. I have to have auto reverse cam due to my job.
How do you know what frequencies to set the door speakers to? I see on speaker specs it has a range so do I just select an in between????
It depends on a lot of variables. For instance, you don't want a 6 1/2 inch mid-range to play too low of a frequency, like 30 hz. It'll just flop around and bottom out at medium volume levels. So you might try 80 Hz and see how it goes. The louder you want to play, the higher you would need to raise the crossover point to prevent over excursion. So it's all a balancing act and you have to experiment with your active crossover frequencies. You're typically not going to damage a mid-range by experimenting with different frequencies.
When it comes to a tweeter you're going to want to go with whatever the manufacturer recommends for a high pass frequency. If they recommend 4k Hz @ 24dB/oct. then just go with that. Tweeters can be easily damaged by playing too low of a frequency so I wouldn't experiment on tweeter crossover points.

DOUG DOES THE NVX DSP BLUETOOTH STREAMER WORK GOOD WITH IPHONE HONESTLY ? I HAVE A ZAPCO 8 CH DSPWITH BLUETOOTH SO THAT THING SOUND GREAT WITH MY IPAD . A FREIND DOES NOT WANT TO SPEND $900 FOR ZAPCO BUT THE NVX IS RESONABLE MAYBE IF IT WORKS WELL STREAMING FROM IPHONE . THX DOUG

@JasonWW2000 bummer man I was hoping he would have finished it. He knows what it takes to make 1 insane. I'm sure exo will turn out nice too but I'm guessing Doug has been around a lot of builds over the yrs especially back in the day when they were ALL OVER THE PLACE. Or at least they were in the midwest back in late 90s before they made the damn loud stereo laws that gave us all tickets. I have 4-JL audio 12-w1s (old school JL ) 1995 models powered by cockford ballsgate punch 200. (Foreman grill w end caps) and mannn I SPL at 151.3 in a chevy mini-blazer . No wall just a big ass box behind backseat all the way to ceiling and barely could close tailgate. All separate chambers w 3in ports all going up 2 subs faced back 2 angled towards ceiling. Dudes at local stereo shop said I got lucky w build bc they never seen such low powered subs spl so high. 🤷 lol. Eventually blew seal out on passenger rear window. That ride was the "panty droppa" 😄 🤣 good times but I know Doug could make a beast I wanted to see him out do the rest damn....
I bet Mark the car audio nerd wouldn't of had this much trouble re-wiring a new system. He would of had all his wires laid out scientifically the first time.
Did I understand your DSP input setup correctly? If I heard you right, you only have left/right and sub rca. Taking the signal for rear from front? Why if so? I enjoy front and rear stereo staging, is it just to ease installation or sound preference?
he only needs the front R/L since the signal is full range. the processor can split those into 4 and eq the proper frequencies for each front speaker, then sent into the amp to do the 4 speakers up front. then the rear or sub RCAs can be used for the sub after processing as well. then he has easy control from the head unit to drop or boost base if he wanted to. best part is the amp is only boosting part of the signal that each speaker needs. there's no passive crossovers cutting off signal that the speaker can't play.

Newbie hear but why do you run the Sony head unit with 4 RCA outputs and a converter to get your sub output than run a different Sony or another brand head unit that has 6 RCA outputs -just asking because I'm installing a iPad in my 64 with your kit and haven't decided on the wiring part yet
