- Long time Pittsburgh news anchor Wendy Bell was recently fired for racist comments on her Facebook page. Should she have been fired? Suspended? Ana Kasparian, Hasan Piker (Pop Trigger), and Grace Baldridge, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Hearst Television, the parent station of WTAE-TV, said in a statement Wednesday that it had “ended its relationship” with Emmy-winning anchor Wendy Bell because her “recent comments on a WTAE Facebook page were inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards.”
Two weeks after the attack, Bell wrote on her professional Facebook page, “You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts.”
The original post, which has since been removed but was captured in screenshots, continued:
They are young black men, likely teens or in their early 20s. They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before. They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested.”*

That guy is what they refer to as the casual racist.
Her comments were inappropriate plain and simple plus her assessment was prejudicial and bigoted. Her comments are inflammatory and could incite racial hatred among others.
Anthony Marcus Wrong!, if you see rain clouds in the sky, and you live in Seattle, your not being prejudice, if you say it’s gonna rain tomorrow. Prejudice is to pre-judge a situation WITHOUT knowing facts, she knew certain facts and called attention to a problem, a problem being swept under the rug everyday in this country, I applaud her for being brave enough to speak out. As far as being bigoted, she never used the N word, or used any demonstrative descriptions, it’s her city and that gives her a right to speak.
Her comments were 100% true. Sorry if the truth hurts.
@@unite4peace88 Great points and 100% spot on. But as in another person's comments, the truth hurts 😭.
Who is this dude sounds like he's co-signing for her
White man justifying why she should keep her job.
He just refused to acknowledge that she judge somebody and don't even know all the detail
There’s no justification for her saying that they were black she displayed her racist views.....the gentleman who justifying her actions is why racism continues.....
Is he nuts? She needed to be fired!
This guy doesn’t get it lol he’s defending her cuz he has the same mind set
Wow, considering the likes and dislikes this is a very divisive issue. Honestly, even me writing this write now, my statement is public. It may not be seen and people might not care but as I speak publicly I need to be prepared to assume responsibility for the ramifications of what I say. Her comments reinforce a very toxic mindset. A mindset that links race with a propensity towards crime. She could have speculated that the criminals were disadvantaged or desperate without linking their race as if that also has something to do with being a criminal. Also the restaurant stuff was extremely condescending and she should've been checked on that. I think it was right to fire her for the suspect comment and start a dialogue regarding the second comment.
+Michael Peterson What if the crime happened in a black neighborhood known for gang violence in the past? Would it still be wrong to speculate that the assailants were African American despite that being the most likely outcome?
jenkind1 Yes
Michael Peterson So statistics are wrong and common sense is racist? Got it.
Yours is the best and most comprehensive comment on the matter.
+Nijastan K. What does being white have to do with it? Whites are NOT the only racists towards black people.
It is NOT a teaching moment!! She DOES know better!! It was RACIST! I like this show HOWEVER the guy in the middle is trying to play devils advocate HOWEVER this is not a situation where that is needed! WRONG IS WRONG!!
I think the problem with this dialog is that we have three white people discussing racism as an abstract concept and how it affects the white person. Very little is focused on the effects of an award winning news anchor perpetuating a racist narrative in a public forum and how it affects black people who had nothing to do with this incident. It's all about how her "mistake" is affecting her "career".
Don't fire her? Really? She's been working for that news outlet long enough to know better than to be using quotas about race when it comes to a crime being committed! You can't retrain a racist! The only way to deal with them is through firing them!
She wasn’t fired for what she said. She was fired for how what she said might reflect on her employer.
exactly...later on, she tried to frame it that she got fired for her "views & beliefs" -- Nah she got fired for running her big fat mouth on either her employee page or the station page, which is a no-no for anyone
She is an adult first and a reporter second. She is also a racist. She just nicely stated that fact. You can’t assume all black children are raised by single mother and that the father is not around. I personally know people in other races who were raised by single mothers and the father was not in the picture. Furthermore she should’ve had anything to say about the young man at the restaurant. The fact that he was working there, or just working at all, that was so petty on her part.
Yes but single parent homes are rampant in the black community so what she said wasn't racist, but of course ANYTHING you say can and probably WILL be misconstrued by blacks as racist.
Who cares if a kid doesn't have a father, people shouldn't be judged for that, single mums usually do a wonderful job raising kids xxx
My friend is a stereotypical black man with 5 kids from different mothers but he is un stereotypical in that he manages to somehow be their father and work his ass off and support them. Also spends time with them and he's not ashamed one bit of himself. His sons are really cool people so so I love it when people break that stereotype that society's sometimes views people.
That guy comes off as a BAD fit for your show. SMH
come on when was the last time you saw him appear on the show?
@@mostcom you must be him because you’re on every comment that has something to say about him 🤦🏼♀️
She'll have a lifetime career at Fox "news."
She's a grown damn woman she knew exactly what she was saying period your a public figure engage brain before putting mouth or words in motion.
Yup, it was a Targeted Strike by her, 👍🏾👊🏾✌🏾🇳🇬🇺🇸
You are so right.
Yes, there needs to be a back and forth re her racism.. but afterwards she needs to be fired. She has a responsibility as a reporter, as an adult and as a human and she failed.
That middle guy has an all excuses for her
That guy is ridiculous. She should have never said that and should have known better.
He is staying on code. He is as raceist as the lady they are speaking about.
so what is her thoughts on all these school shootings? who is the usual suspects?
Even though I'm a conservative, you are right. If there is one, I would say the same thing about whites from statistical data. Statistics aren't biased and aren't affiliated to a race or political agenda. The problem is people use statistics conveniently, not consistently. Call it what it is. Bad but accurate analogy; if your car over and over again won't try to start, you don't blame the tires because you're worried about the battery's feelings. You go to what the root cause is and call it out.
White kids.
This is the definition of prejudice. She pre judged these ppl based off bigoted stereotypes.
+Seta-San
A stereotype by definition is sometimes true it doesn't change the fact it's flawed logic.
***** It doesn't tell you anything but she's prejudice. We don't know how many siblings the criminals have or how many fathers they have or any of that. I can be prejudice and say youre racist because a racist would take up for prejudice. Wouldnt that be wrong in itself?
+Seta-San It tells you nothing. She was using fallacious reasoning.
"Why?", you might ask? Because, first of all, race isn't a real thing. So how can you draw valid conclusions from something that doesn't exist? Secondly, race has nothing to do with it. Unless you can demonstrate that there's somehow a genetic link between black people and crime, you've got nothing.
So in order to draw the conclusion she did, she'd literally have to base it on nonsense. Whether it was racist, bigoted, stereotypes, etc, it doesn't matter, because the reasoning was invalid.
+Seta-San -
Even a blind squirrel will find a nut every once in a while!
But she's right. Why do you not realize this?
It’s a teachable moment? No it’s racism. Period.
Nothing she said is racist. It’s simply correct.
That guy on the set is scary. He is not tuned to the issues that are making black people very infuriated. Their lives in the hands of the White police due to harbored stereotypes and racism are not up for casual discussion. Denunciation of Black people instantly when they have not been accused of any crime, or caught in that crime is due to her deeply held negative opinions that she used her public image to spread. I think the company did right to show her the door.
TELL you what he will soon run for president. WE need to shut him down now
I feel like the entire "that's racist"-argument is completely deflated by the fact that she was right...
+TheWildmanden
If the comment was made AFTER the evidence was discovered, there wouldn't be a case, bu this was done BEFORE evidence came to light.
+Zeldagigafan She's right 50% of the time. On that case and any other murder case for the foreseeable future.
+Zeldagigafan Up that to being right ninety plus percent of the time if she knew the victims were black.
I'm a black guy and she does say some "stereotypical truths" about some blacks in poor communities, but my problem with her is I bet if it were a local white boy or man mass shooter she wouldn't say shit about it. I would be on her side if she called out all stereotypes not just against one group.
+DarkWater4Eva saying "i bet she would;n't do this or that" doesn't make it a fact . how can u have a problem with something that is hypothetical in ur mind.
sonix rey I'm speculating just like she's doing about blacks.....so she's betting on these black males are of single mothers etc....I'm betting on her not saying shit about Dylan Ruth and the other mass killer's upbringing and lives.. I'm sure she's not profiling Trump supports, confederate flag wavers and mass shooters. But she profiles blacks.....yes what I said was hypothetical but I'm betting on its accuracy.
If she didn't know what she said was wrong, then she definitely deserved to be fired.
She may have simply risen to her level of incompetence.
what he is saying its ok to come to conclusion about blacks ,even if u dont have the facts.what a muppet.
A Muppet and dumb ass to be lead by people who have no idea about anything
Funny thing is what offended me more was her comments on the black kid in the restaurant doing his menial job and then praising him for it. Perfect example of the soft racism/bigotry of low expecatations.
+popp007us THIS!
+popp007us how do you know she doesn't believe white kids should be doing it too? maybe it's how she thinks ALL kids should be raised.
sheepnoisebah Who knows for sure. But it strikes me as a bit strange she would specifically pick out a black kid for praise just for working in a restaurant. Especially in the context of her racially tinged comments on black criminals.
Firing was the RIGHT thing to do! Her superior attitude is influencing others. She should not be in that position of power with that attitude.
The station was absolutely correct when they terminated the former news anchor. The guy in the middle also has no clue about what he’s speaking about, just because one has the ability to say something does not mean that it’s okay or more importantly correct or right.
She is a grown woman she's not a kid so quit talking about what the job should have done they did exactly what they should have done. she was being racist and if you should act that way publicly and anytime you should be fired too people of color help the ratings of any talk show new station TV show so she got what she deserved.
And as black man, I agree with the guy in the middle because we should have discussions about race and racism. Its stupid to ignore it!
How dare she say what everyone else is thinking?
Ana doesn’t need cohosts. She is intelligent, attractive and sincere.
She is that good. I enjoy her and Cenk together a bunch. They work together well. The young Turks are informed and sincere with great verbal skills, all of them. They choose talented people w ethical conviction. Hurray
Um...privelege is debating how much racism is acceptable
Memo to Ana: SHE WAS RIGHT. You're complaining about someone telling the truth. Had it been a black anchor, she wouldn't have been fired, because she would be making light of the problems that's going on, which would be followed up with reports on ways we can fix the problem. Everything she said was spot on because that's the profile of all the crap we have going on in our cities. Unfortunately, to speak up and address the issue is a fireable offense.
Did anyone check the family background of the killers? I bet she was right on that too.
+Brian Odom few, i thought it was just me who noticed that....like seriosly , "unfortunatly she was right" LOL
Get this dude off your show- he’s not objective- her words we’re egregiously hurtful, harmful and horrible
First off I’m a black dad of a son and I’m a retired (disabled veteran / current employee despite my injuries from combat) so for you to think I’m not here for my child is racist or just ignorant.
Thank you for your service
you might be, but that doesn't mean most are.
As a young black male, if you are one to follow the rules , be polite and be yourself: you won't ever get the respect you deserve.
Yep you'd still be labeled a "thug" by Porcelain fuckwits and their model minorities.
This is why i get so pissed when imi at my job and some white person tells me that I am well spoken and that i have manners. 1. All black people aren't illiterate 2. You don't have to be white to speak well. 3. It's my job to be nice to you.... Proud black male.
She knew better and as an individual in the public media she should have keep it to herself. 🙄
Amazing how this dude doesn't get it
Whether she was right are not...her job is 2 report factual news not what she thinks 🤨.....and that's why her bosses fired her azz!!
lmao6t her Facebook page is not her job and she was not “reporting the news”. If she was “on air, at her place of employment” yes she should only report factual news. But let’s be real, how often does that happen?
@@sherrygraham8650 employers who do background checks before they hire someone check your Facebook account to see what type of person they may be hiring...you know this right?!....if not you are not as smart as you think you are by trying to justify this dumb shyt.🤨
All of us are not from single family homes, all of us hasn’t seen a jail house, all of us mothers don’t have to work multiple jobs ...It may be of a surprise but some of us Have very happy ,crimeless lives and graduates 1st in their class AND lived in a home with a picket fence....Yeahhhhh and guess what Were Black 😳😳😳
janey vincent the stereotypes are so utterly ridiculous! I wish people would get a clue!
By the way you wrote this post Janey, I'm sure that you didn't graduate 1st in your class 🤔.
I M 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You caught me ... driving and texting is a big no no .... my thoughts as well as my speaking were in a race . Thanks for bringing it to my attention . 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I'm not Black, but in my opinion this discussion would seem a little more relevant if at least one Black person was on the show, and/or Black people's opinions about this topic were consulted. A red flag went off in my head when more than one person said that the news anchor who promoted bigotry should not be fired. Why not? Is that how the Black community feels?
I don’t know how that guy can defend her for getting fired for her racist comment unless he is a little racist himself
Sounds right!
She has racist views and firing was right!
I wonder if TYT has ever drawn early conclusions without having all the facts. Hmm...
+Im black, even though the guy in the profile picture is white. They have, when they said iran had a few men in their women soccer team. turned out wasn't true. that'ts where i kind of lost respect for them.
The guy in the middle will defend her with his last breath he see or hear nothing wrong in what she said because he is just as racist as she is
He's probably Her cuz
That’s Hassan bruh
Let's say the story was about people getting kicked out of the homes in the dead of winter by their landlord. And this same reporter speculated that the landlord is Jewish and makes similarly racist stereotypical comments, do you think the panelists would hold the same opinions about the way her employer handled things? Would this still be a teaching moment?
Ok dude you obviously don’t know why she should have been fired! And so should YOU! Get him off Turks! Ridiculous
Was she right ?
+Teufelsnachbar667 of courrrrrrrse
+Teufelsnachbar667 Yup, on the nose.
yes
I know. That's what I want to know. I bet she was.
They don't have any suspects yet, so nobody knows
She was right though. She was right about her assumptions. Doesnt that raise red flags? Shouldnt that open a dialogue?
People keep saying we need to have a conversation about race in America, but people keep finding ways to censor that conversation.
+TheBananaThug Exactly what I was thinking.
+TheBananaThug I agree, and it's not like separate sets of people saying it. People are saying both, "We need to have a dialogue" and "You can't say that!" and, well, as soon as you tell people what they can or can't say, even publicly, that stops the dialogue. It doesn't matter how terrible the comments are; as soon as you say, "You can't say that!" instead of, "Here's where I think you're wrong," you stop the dialogue. They need to make up their minds.
+Caitlin Eisner It's their way of saying. We need a dialog, but only I will talk.
Don't know the guys name but his responses are suspect.
Whites trying to debate whether a racist comment is or isn't stereotyping
That part!!
So have we found out who the shooters were yet? oh wait, she was right on the money. Imagine that.
"you're not supposed to report on something before you know the facts"
OH THE IRONYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
What is the guy even talking about? How is it responsible for a reporter to say that it's young black men from single family homes who committed the crime before any description from the authorities is released? Does he not see how damaging those stereotypical assumptions are?
This journalist made the assumption without knowing that the killers were , poor young black men who’s mothers were working single parents and mr piker said her assumption were correct .... he doesn’t have a problem with the broad racial assumption about black men but has sympathy for the racist journalist 👎
This is pretty hypocritical of TYT to say the reporter should not have speculated before the facts were out. TYT did the EXACT same thing when a young man walked into an abortion clinic with a pipe bomb in his napsack. They immediately labelled him a religious right-wing nut who was hell-bent on blowing up the clinic. The fact of the matter was the kid walked into the clinic to apply for a job and was carrying all his personal belongings in his napsack with him and, being a young kid, one of the items was a pipe bomb. TYT never apologised to him for the slander nor issued a retraction. 'Glass houses', TYT.
+Jason G When did this happen?
+davidgomez79 TYT isn't perfect. You are allowed to get your news from someone else, if you choose. Judging by your comments, you probably already do.
80teg We are not expecting them to be perfect. But if Ana and TYT believe that the reporter's statements merit her being fired, then the least TYT can do is issue a retraction and an apology to Moses Trevizo.
She's old enough to know to NOT blab on racism and racist stereotypes. She's an adult. The firing was justified.
Yeah and that's a two-way street but that don't seem to apply to black people when it comes to racism towards whites huh.
This dude needs to go. Please do not invite this young man back on your show Ana! You’re so right Ana and you’re on the right page!
You are right, she was wrong.. she should have kept her comments to her self, it showed what she thinks about black people. The male commentary was as irresponsible as Wendy's remarks. he basically made excuses for what she said instead of holding her accountable......
Stop making excuses for these types of characters. She and those like her are "One "of the reasons this amount of undeluted racism still exist!
Dai Lee She was right though, they found the perpetrators.
Dai Lee Story: **Couple high on METH and opioids left four year old to die in trailer park**
News Anchor: "Well we already know they're white.."
See how that works. Doesn't feel right does it
Goodbye freedom of speech. Anyone with a brain would assume these peoples were black, the news lady was right in all respects. It's not a stereo type if it's true.
Idk this was a mass shooting so I thought the person was white.
+b bb freedom of speech is about the government infringing on your rights, she's not going to jail or getting fined for this... private organizations can fire you if you bring controversy to your company..
Alexander M. she made her comments on her own time, not at work
I believe TYT need to keep these two people off of the show. They are making excuses for this racist. Especially the guy in the middle
The guy is a racist period. At that point, the newswoman was simply inciting, and it could have cost more lives.
She'll be a hit on Fox news..
She didn't suddenly get these opinions of black people over night. These are deeply held beliefs that she's been keeping secret all along. She gave so much detail about the exact make-up of their families. That's not something you just say accidentally, off-the-cuff in a moment of sadness at a tragedy. This is the prejudice in her heart that she's held her entire life coming out in a moment of tragedy. THAT'S the reason she needs to be fired.
+kevnar She also spent 20 years covering crime in her area... I'd say she knows her community pretty well, considering she was 100% right about the perpetrators.
mofomartian Do we know who the perpetrators are though? Not one suspect has been charged to my understanding. Lets not jump to conclusions just to prove a point.
mofomartian
Wendy Bell was not fired for saying the suspects were black.
Who is this guy he needs to be fired
I think the guy who is making excuses sounds like a racist himself. Who is he to decide how much racism is tolerated. Both the male and female are excepting and demonstrating their sense of white privilege.
Yeah he really needs to tow the line or he should be cancelled! You are so right! How dare he disagree! There is no place for individual thought around here! Anyone that disagrees doesn't deserve a platform!
Don't worry. She can always work for fox "news".
Some might think she's right and some might thinks she's wrong. But in my opinion I think as a journalist you should be more careful and more precautions about what you pay on social media due to the position your in.
Say*
I couldn't agree more.
When you have a certain amount of fame, you should remember that you have eyes watching you and ears listening.
+Pax Lovely Opinions and assumptions are two different things. That was not an opinion, but an irrational assumption
*****
Well said.
Pax Lovely
Did I even state that in my previous post? It wasn't even implied.
YOU came to that conclusion on your own.
It incites hate speech and behavior.
I would fire that guy in the middle too LOL !
better for the mothers to work multiple jobs than to leech the system.
lyn78sez
The mothers of the black men arrested for the murders did not work multiple jobs. The multiple siblings from multiple fathers and mothers with multiple jobs is Wendy Bell describing her racist stereotypical impression of black woman.
I'm black, and I draw conclusions about the race of suspects, that are reported on local news, all the time. If you're familiar with a geographical area, the racial makeup of the area, and the crime trends in that area, its easy to hazard a guess as to who the suspects likely are. There's no need to ignore reality just to prove that you're not racist. Given my geographical area, if I hear a report about an armed robbery on a street corner, I assume that the suspect is black. If I hear that a major meth ring was busted, I assume that everyone involved was white. I don't see anything wrong with drawing conclusions about the race of a suspect, as long as you don't assume that every black person you encounter is a criminal, or otherwise a threat.
It's prejudice.
Yep logic
It doesn't matter she's a reporter she is held to a higher standard than the general public, she shouldn't have speculated before the facts were in.
MrNateSPF
You must have mistaken me for someone else. I don't work in a restaurant. I'm a lawyer.
Ali Mohamed
I should have stated this in my initial comment, but I completely agree that she should not have made those comments on her Facebook page, regardless of how accurate they may turn out to be. It wasn't her place to do that as a reporter. My comment was more directed at Anna, and her seeming belief that you're automatically a racist if you draw conclusions about the skin color of a crime suspect.
Ima glad she got fired
Why the hell that Middle guy in your show ??? He is just so cool with what that racist reporter said.
They were black dumbass!!
She'll get hired by FOX tomorrow...
I'm black. and I can't really be that mad at her.
+Paris Roam But see, it's not even a "black thing". It's a CLASS issue - of course, race is involved in the big scheme of things, but if you know the jurisdiction where the shootings occurred, its demographics, and the economic climate there, it's a safe bet that she is probably right.
So a little careless by Wendy Bell? Yes, but like the one panelist said - it did not come from a place in her heart of hate.
In a sane world, her posts should have been only mildly uncomfortable to some. The fact that she got fired tells me we are not in a totally sane world.
By the way, less than a week later, on a single day, their local newspaper had FOUR current stories of murders committed by blacks, on blacks - there was no outrage.
+jas22 I 100% agree
+jas22 I definitely agree, race is part of the bigger class issue. Divide and conquer by pinning us against eachother.
+sam comer But I do not think there is a "divde and conquer" thing here, either. Who is dividing, and conquering? No one but our own pride, arrogance, and tendency to side with those that look most like us, whether right or wrong.
She absolutely ment it from a point of hate.
I’m sorry that middle guys comment is idiotic. The reporters comment was totally racist and fir him to say it wasn’t, he might be a little racist.
He can't help it
Dude, TYT--you need to stop bringing on that douchebag in the middle. He's been objectionable before, but sticking up for an obviously racist and incompetent reporter (reporting on something before facts are known makes her incompetent), and then saying she "knows her demographic" re: crime in Pittsburgh, is disgraceful. This guy has some serious issues. Let him air them on someone else's channel and stop bringing this one down!
She aired an opinion. She never reported it as facts. She was also correct. people died and the mo is often the same, So get over it.
I agree 100% I was thinking the same thing
I find him annoying as hell
***** Cenk needs to fire his damn nephew!
typical America If you don't talk shit you get fired.
Hasan Piker Gave the most ridiculous and ignorant "analysis" of this story. I have to remember to avoid videos with him on the panel.
+NubianTribesman The guy is a really bad addition to the show, that's for sure.
+NubianTribesman He was right though
+NubianTribesman Why was it ridiculous? He gave a reasoned and fair opinion
He was correct. I personally don't want to live in a world where what I can and can't say is dictated by a politically correct hate mob. That's not liberalism.
+NubianTribesman I think he hit the nail on the head. My problem is when Ana said, "That's something to discuss in private with your family."
Now I'm sorry, but this is an issue. Especially considering she was right. These debates need to happen, yes what she said had racist undertones, but you need to identify the socio-economic problems. Yes, black people tend to be socio-economically less well off than whites in general, they're harassed by police, they're discriminated at job interviews but you can't deny that not ALL the problems within this community can be fixed from outside of it, change needs to happen within.
How do you start these conversations? With open public debate, thats how we beat the homophobes, thats how we beat the conservative christian right, its how we beat the segregationists in the 60s. etc
Why can't we say that, yes black people are systematically discriminated against in America BUT they also have issues within their own community. Why can't both issues be addressed? Because idiotic ideologues on both sides think its either 100% society at large on the left, while the right think they should sort their own community out and take some personal responsibility. NEWSFLASH AMERICA: ITS BOTH.
The issue is when you take these positions rather than getting support from both sides the opposite happens and both sides condemn either as a wide eyed liberal or a bigot. That is NOT ok.
The racism is so obvious and there should be zero tolerance for the news reporters comments. How the other two people are blind to that is not comprehensible. You can have the dialogue after but she should not remain on the station. Where’s the other YT guy who would have added some sense into the guy in the middle
This guy should never be allowed to co-host show. What wasn't racist about what she said? Wendy Bell is way too old not to realize what she was saying was wrong and stereotypical. She knew exactly what she was saying. Someone had to see signs of WS in that woman long before she said that, but yet allowed her to be in the public eye. What she said was in no way an opinion, it was meant to demean, spread false narratives and imply inferiority. Damn right she should have been fired. We don't need people spreading filth and stereotypes on social media or the airways.
Kudos to Hasan for actually trying to discuss the topic instead of just jumping on the regressive left bandwagon
this kind of PC outrages gave birth to Trump
+Bijan Alpha This isn't PC outrage. Not being racist isn't being politically correct. Its just being a decent human being. Being Politically Correct is going out of your way to not try offend anyone that you just end up pissing off everyone. Like not saying Merry Christmas as to not offend people that don't celebrate Christmas even though no one with half a brain cares or even thinks about what holiday greeting people say when they enter the supermarket or whatever.
You can call her a bad person then but racist?! just for expressing herself on FB?
i think you set the bar very low for calling people racist
and btw if you shut people up about racial issues you don't remove their racist ideas you just make them hidden deep inside
and someday these stupid ideas erupts like a volcano (Trump)
+Bijan Alpha I think the point they were trying to make was that she was a news anchor that sated opinions like that on fb.
+Bijan Alpha This isn't PC outrage. This is an idiot that couldn't keep their racism to themselves that got fired because they made themselves into a source of negative PR for their company. Once you bring negative PR to your company you're expendable. They have no one but themselves to blame.
She should have kept her racist thoughts to herself, very unprofessional and insensitive!
So if ur racist you should hide it is that what ur lesson for the day is I like it better when they put the target on their shirt
No it’s not hate speech. But those were incendiary comments. In her tone was disdain and disgust for young black men and a judgment being cast on the family dynamics and make up of young black men period. Not just the perpetrators of the crime. That’s the problem. And she’s a seasoned reporter...?
First off, Ana, you look super cute. Secondly, we always have a defense for racist views like "she wasn't coming from a bad place." Yes she was! It's just that you're not on the receiving end so it's easier to look past. Oh bytw less we forget Las Vegas--Those crazy white guys!! But somehow it's never their upbringing or bringing down a whole segment of people due to the acts of one.
Why couldn't the white dude in the middle be all the way truthful and just say, I can't be as mad at her as I would want to because she reminds me a lot of my mother and I've been raised to believe these racist stereotypes about black people as well.
She said what he was thinking. he's a closet racist by his comments
Truth!
+ST I no, this life of violence is not a part of my reality and yes I'm black. I wish you know what discrimination is. I had a white friend in elementary school. I went to his apartment to play with my friend. his family called me all kinds of racial names and their friends in the apartment complex ran me and my cousin to the freeway because my kind isn't accepted. I been held back in many ways in careers because of my race. these issues are real. they are not being made up. this isn't like things has changed so much. where I live its not a black on black thing. it's a thing of you trying to advance beyond the limitations of what white people think is my place. I've seen it in the court room. I've seen it in tv and the media and I've seen it in corporate America. racism is real and here in America. you wouldn't know anything about this unless you have walked in it first hand
+ST I it is tolerated here. I honestly don't see no way of it stopping. I don't expect it to change. the only change I will make is to leave the country for a country where my race isn't only portrayed in the media as a criminal.
He is Arab from Turkey
*She forgot to mention what kind of music they listen to*
Who cares about her apology 🙄
Anna is 100% correct and the other guy is full of shit! He is totally missing the Point. She didn't know who the suspects were. That said, this lady should have been fired.
+dnate697 That guy is a complete joke !!!
Yep!
Stop trying to defend her she is a racist. It doesn't bother you guys because you are not black. She wasn't talking about you.
She has an inherent bias. I'm not going to call her racist. She has an inherent bias. My question. . .does feeling sorry for the plight of the American Indian make one a racist? Bias? Yes. . .racist? Labels are subject to different intepretations.
I am black!!!!, however like I said some people can change!!!! Others not willing to change then you can do whatever you want with them.
She's been around long enough to know the score.
Not racist but realist...
Back and forth discourse solves nothing!!! The best thing to do is fire her and anybody like her and boycott her employers!!!!!
Again, and I've said this before, it's not about censuring someone's option. You can say whatever you want ( hello freedom of speech!) but in saying what you want you also have to think of the consequences of that speech. Think before you speak and/or type. And be sure that with everything you say, it won't come back to bite you in the ass.
