  • Arterial Blood Gas Interpretation: ABGs Made Easy For Nursing Students!!
    This is the easiest way to learn (and remember) arterial blood gases (ABG's) in nursing school!
    Arterial blood gases can be really difficult to learn in nursing school. Not only do you need to memorize the arterial blood gas values, but you also need to learn how to actually interpret ABGs.
    In this video, I'll walk you through 3 steps (and 3 questions) to ask to help you get ABG questions right on your nursing school exams.
    Be sure to download the FREE arterial blood gas cheat sheet that goes along with this video. Print it out, take it to nursing school clinical, skills lab, or lecture class, so you can always remember how to correctly interpret arterial blood gases.

    Hiiiiii. Quick question. When you mentioned the hco3 or paco2 value changes to compensate, does the value go up or down or both? I understand once its in its normal range, it means uncompensated where it doesnt recognize anything. So does the value go lower or higher to signal change? I hope you understand what im asking. Thank you.

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey kimmel williams! I think I understand what you are asking.... if this answer doens't make sense then if you could email us at hello@nursingsos.com and we can make sure to help clarify it for you! :)
      So yes, the Hco3 and PaCO2 will go either up or down depending on what the body needs to get back to those normal levels. They will try to compensate and balance our the body. So depending on which directions they are going in will determine where the problem is stemming from. I hope that helps! :

    05:01 this information is incorrect, if the lungs are to blame, check if HCO3 is moving in the opposite direction to fix the system, and viceversa; if the kidneys are to blame, is PaCO2 moving in the opposite direction to bring everything back to normal...that way we can determine if its uncompensated or partially compensated....

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  Před 5 lety +1

      You are correct! At 5:01 I'm talking about the "life of the party," so that's the one that's trying to help make it better. So just like you said, if the kidneys are trying to help make it better, then the hco3 should be changing. If the lungs are trying to make it better, then the paco2 should be changing.
