I’m french and I remember that Blurred Lines was a big hit in France. I didn’t know about the controversy.
The song is about date rape. The lines are blurred because he slipped her a roofy. Also it was a sample of got to give it up which they stole without permission.

Because he would get another lawsuit from Marvin Gaye's family but good to see that he is able to bounce back from a lawsuit such as that. Some artists never are the same they either fall off or stop being in the mainstream...true or definitely true?

@@jayk8919 The estate filed a suit based on "Blurred Lines" sampling the song "Got to Give It Up" without permission. I think he was ordered to pay out over a million dollars in a judgment, and Marvin Gaye had to be listed as a co-writer. His career took off after the song, giving him a ton of attention. He cheated on his wife, who then left him. His reputation took a dive and his career suffered. His follow-up album, named "Paula" after his soon-to-be-ex-wife, bombed. He's never come close to that level of success again.
That lawsuit was fucking bs. Should have never been successful. The beat was not the same as Marvin Gaye song and It was slightly different. Artist are influenced by other songs when creating. You're creating a slippery slope when you're allowing frivolous lawsuits. Robin Thicke's career did not take off after blurred line either. It took off after Lost Without You and he's had other hits outside of blurred line. I bet another artist will never sample another song from the Gaye's greedy ass estate.

@@ocampbell1954 Anyone who heard that song heard Marvin, PERIOD. People need to stop stealing from the Black community and/or Black people who paved the way, do what’s right by them. A slight tweak is still a RIP OFF. You can give a Marvin Gaye feel without ripping off the entire song, that’s called being creative. His career has never been the same since Paula and Marvin. Many of us (those who actually take pride) don’t take kindly to that kind of behavior since we LET YOU IN and we certainly can’t stand sellouts like Pharrell. I’m glad they won that lawsuit, people will now have to be more original in their “creativity” instead ripping off people/another race who actually were/are creative.
