You are very talented with narration. I don't feel like we're missing anything. The hearts with the privy were hilarious, I know exactly how small things like that feel.
Between your awesomely authentic narration, the pacing and editing of your videos, and the overall style, your channel reminds me of Homemade Wanderlust. I hope you take this as compliment because that’s how it’s intended. You and Dixie (Jessica) aren’t necessarily similar, but there’s just something special about your videos in a way that’s reminiscent of hers. Another excellent video!

As a kid I used to work on my uncle’s farm during summer months. Every cow has a different temper but they’re mostly docile. First thing, never startle an animal, make your presence be felt by talking out loud . If they don’t notice you, clap your hands loudly while still talking loud, that will affirm your authority. Any agressive move of the animal must be answered with the same attitude but louder and swinging your trekking poles. Bulls have different attitudes but they’re never left in the same pasture with cows unless they’re kids because their aggressivity stresses cows and lowers milk quotas.
Coming along on that sped up portion of the trail was fun!

This reminded me of my hike there in the 1900s 😆 actually 1994 ish. My husband & his best friend & I went to hike there. We somehow got off the AT trail onto a wide, muddy horsetrail. By evening we figured out we couldn’t reconnect with the main trail by dark, so we set up our shared tent & camped by the horse trail. Woke up the next morning to a syncophony of Mooing 😆 AND with a cow patty at our tent exit. They were all very curious apparently.
Fortunately we made it back to the trail & looped around to that parking lot where we saw all the ponies.
I love watching you pursue this goal. I had dreamed of completing the AT someday, but time & motherhood & now a crappy spine have gotten in my way.

Grandma always said cows are more afraid of you than you are of them. We hiked in the woods a lot as kids!

You did the correct thing with the cattle. Took your time, and didn't stomp through, rattling them in the process. The alternative was just to pop over the fence and have that barrier between you and them.

I am so happy to have found this video. I am currently almost done reading a book by a guy that hiked the Appalachian trail in 2005...his trail name was Skywalker, and your videos have made the trail come to life for me. And he wrote about some of the places you mentioned. This is SO cool. The book is actually called Skywalker if you ever want to read it. LOVE THIS!

I once went through a raging creek to go around a big old bull cow. He could have cared less probably. Neat snail. Uh oh more cows. The fast forward really tickles me😂, Beautiful pony, such unique coloring. People are just wonderful and kind...
I once decided to backtrack and loop around a slightly aggressive swan that was very determined to protect his/her cygnets. Cows and ponies are so more "friendly" towards humans than swans ;-)

I know you are proud of doing big mile days but please listen to your body. If your legs are aching, please do less miles. Stress injuries from pushing yourself before you are ready is a common hike ender. You will get to the point when it's all easy and the miles fly by without any pain. Please don't push yourself until you are ready. You have the right mindset! You make us laugh so much! 😂 Keep up the great attitude! ❤

Maddie, you have inspired me so much with these videos! I love watching you walk, your attitude and seeing the beautiful nature! Because of you, I've been looking at trails in my country. We dont have mountains or much nature where I live, but apparently there are lots of walking trails anyway!

Just want to say thanks for the videos. I am enjoying your hike. I’m a pct section hiker, and I enjoy listening to old time radio detective shows. Way before my time, but kind of fun. I particularly like falling asleep to them.

I’ve been slowly catching up on your AT adventure, and I love this one!! My husband raises cows on our farm, and most of them just walk away from you but once in a while he gets a crazy one, and he’s been charged before for sure. 😆 but that being said, they’ve never charged at me, maybe because I don’t “work” them (put them in the chute to give them medicine, make them move from one pasture to another when they need to, etc.). 😅

Try grounding by walking barefoot on the ground preferably early in the morning when the dew is on the grass because water on the ground increases the ground effect on the human body to heal from the inside out. It’s free to ground yourself so give it a try for one month 15 minutes a day before you hike. The shoes humans wear usually have a rubber or plastic separator that separates the human skin from the earth. Also swimming or touching in a body of water grounds also.

I know when the thru hikers come down by Palmerton pa Appalachian Trailhead at PA-248 you'll see him go to the laundromat in town and all you see is people eating peanut butter and wearing pretty much nothing but spandex

The cow is a symbol of prosperity and holiness in Hindu mythology. Even Mandarin legends attribute similar qualities to the cow. The Chinese wish cow that presides over treasures is a symbol of wish fulfilment in feng shui....do Holy Cow Good omen!!!

What kind of gate/maze is that at 8:57? Is that to keep bikes off the trail?
Keep cattle or horses in their field but allow hikers thru … avoids having a gate which can accidentally get left open .
