#backpacking - Zábava
Well, this video was just over a year ago. Those keeping track might notice that I haven’t posted a video since. That wasn’t my intention, but that’s the way things have unfolded. Over the past year, I’ve had several other projects that required putting CZcams on the back burner. I have also received a promotion at my job that has come with a bit more work travel, and my wife and I just welcomed our second child into the world. At this point, I honestly don’t know when/if life will allow the margin needed to start back making videos. For now, I just want to say thank you again to everyone that has watched my videos and supported the channel. Happy trails!
I just found your channel. I love your video ! Hope one day you will re - continue youtube. Cheers from France !
I just found a few of your older videos with gear reviews and just wanted to say thank you for putting yourself out there and making and posting videos at all. I can tell that you were here to help people and making these at all take precious time from other things that you do. Unless this is a full-time paid job, priorities change and you have to spend your limited time in other ways. Continue to do whatever you enjoy doing and if you happen to make more content in the future, I will look forward to it. Don't be afraid to come back in the capacity that fits your life.
I just discovered your wonderful channel. It’s amazing that anyone has/had the energy to put into sharing their genius through videos and is willing to put themselves out there so publicly. Thank you for all of the videos you’ve done in the past, and I would completely understand if you never post again.
For any social media, I tend to seek out exactly what I want to watch and ignore the ads and hype. Perhaps backing away will become “The little known thing taking the world by storm” … that contradictory click bait, makes me scratch my head!
Just discovered your channel after getting back into camping after a long hiatus and, as an engineer myself (software), really appreciated your thorough and analytical approach to evaluating gear. The quality of your videos stands out amongst the noise on this platform so please keep it up. Hope to see more videos soon!
Thank you! Life is super busy, but I hope to resume soon!
I feel you on all of this!
Pressure to post, click-bait fatigue…I’m even finishing up my new workshop, too!
I will pass on what people have said to me: we come for the quality. Don’t worry about compromising that for quantity. Keep doing you and we’ll keep watching.
Congrats and thanks for all your hard work!
OK, this channel must be excellent if it gets such an endorsement. Lately it seems that more and more people want to become the new Dixie by recording videos with questionable content and everybody who hiked more than 10 miles presents itself here as the ultimate adventurer.
I really appreciate that! Just saw the video of your workshop and I'm adding it to my watch list.
You and TheOutdoorGearReview are the realest guys on youtube when it comes to backpacking. You guys release QUALITY over quantity and youre never trying to make a quick buck off of us. Shoutout to you man!
I'll keep my thoughts on it simple: do what makes you happy. I appreciate the quality of the videos you make, and respect your choices if you do or don't want to make anything or at whatever pace you want to. Will certainly be watching if you do put anything else out. Also, congrats on the new job! Cheers!
I’m so with you on all your CZcams thoughts. I mostly refuse to click on videos that are obvious clickbait. You were one of my first backpacking channels and I’ve really enjoyed all your videos and learned so much from you.
I appreciate the candor. Life happens - fully understandable. I prefer quality over quantity. Nothing wrong with car camping. I've done that for a basecamp-type situation for day hikes. Happy 2023!
Thanks! Happy 2023 to you too!
Hello, it's nice that your video expresses so faithfully what has been happening to me, because I also left my humble channel aside, because I was fed up with falsely alarmist videos and repeated themes over and over again (not to mention the imposed publicity) I I never wanted to charge a penny to show my walks, just enjoy showing something I like to people who maybe I can teach something to! I have to ask your permission to prepare my own message after several months of absence, based on your logical speech. I love it. In fact, it's been so long since I watched CZcams that I basically forgot that I'm subscribed to your channel. Seeing you expressing what I myself had been ruminating on for weeks has been clarifying. Thank you and grettings from Spain.
Hey, just discovered your channel with the sleeping pad comparison video and it was incredible so I subscribed. I actually really liked how you explained the science of heat transfer and so on. Anyway, I have a video idea for sleeping bags. Everywhere we read that synthetic sleeping bags are better when they get wet, even with the new hydromorphic down. I was thinking it would be amazing to see you test how well synthetic and down sleeping bags hold heat when dry, and then get them wet, and then compare them again. I'd love to see that!
Actually, would be awesome to compare synthetic, down, and water-treated down when wet. See how they compare!
" I'm not planning on taking any 8 months long breaks anytime soon" lol You're halfway there!
Ps. Im just messing around take your time
Just watched your budget backpack video and then found this one. Sad that the frquency and content is changing but very happy that you are going for what makes you happy! Please do what makes you happy and I will watch!
Honestly, I was about to unsubscribe, because I didn't remember the channel, but I watched the whole video and you made me empathize and stay. Thanks for keeping it on!!
Your transparency and speaking style are very, very good. I appreciate this versus most other surprisingly shallow outdoor channels 👍
Thank you for such an honest approach to a video. This is the type of content we all need more of. Thanks a lot.
Glad to hear you're doing good. I mainly go on youtube for music, and Magic the Gathering stuff since that's my main hobby, backpacking has always been a minor hobby of mine but I like watching trip and review videos. But when I saw this video I realized it has been sometime since you have posted. I found your videos to be fun, and informative. Can't wait to see more.
I've always loved your videos and found them very helpful and enjoyable. I'm an engineer too so I do love your gear testing.
I really appreciate how you see things on CZcams and what your plans are for the channel, having two little boys myself
I'm just glad you're still active and planning new videos! I've bought a few pieces of gear based on your reviews, and so far I've never been disappointed. I look forward to seeing what you've got planned!
Awesome, thank you!
Welcome back. I'm looking forward to your content. I think it's great that you'll be doing videos on what you feel like doing and I will be happy to watch.
Thank you I really appreciate that. This video resonated with me in a big way. I just wish the rest of the world was a sincere as you.😁👍
Great to see you back. I hear you on the breaks and busyness of life!
Glad you're doing well and getting back into the swing of things!
I've also been wanting to get into some broader outdoor content (car camping with my wife etc.), so I'll be watching this space for inspiration and seeing how that goes.
Cheers Paul.
Keep Moving Forward,
Jesse
Thanks brother!
Have to just be annoyed at the CZcams audience, lol. Content creators just do what works. People fall in droves for clickbait and FOMO. I personally out of spite don't click on those types of videos - hence how I landed on your channel. Best gear channel I've come across. Keep approaching content your own way.
Glad you're back and glad you took some time off. We all deserve a balanced lifestyle. I look forward to upcoming videos. Aloha!
I always get worried when the youtubers who have lots of budget backpacking gear vids go dark. My anxious mind wanders to the possibility that all the big money companies came and took you out or something lmao! Dose of Dirt has recently went dark too and i fear the worst! but all you guys have lives outside of YT so its completely understandable man! You dont owe us anything at all, infact I think we all owe you for all the awesome content. Cheers!
Thanks for keeping it real. Looking forward to your videos even if there less often.
I have gotten something out of each of your videos and I want to say thank you for your directness and insight. You have been exceptionally helpful with my education regarding hiking and backpacking preparedness. The frustration that you spoke to is commensurate to my experience trying to learn more about the activity without being beaten senselessly with paid partnerships and biased reviews. Lastly, I want to recognize that you’re a fellow GA hiker! Our weather here is petulant at times, and I always benefit from listening to people speak about their weather adaptation strategies in our particular region.
Good luck in your future endeavors - I’m going to bookmark your content and share it where I can. Thanks again! ✌️
Thank you for your kind words, @dr_heck! It's always encouraging to hear that my content is helpful.
I am so glad someone else is so tired of the face-palm, mouth-wide-open in shock thumbnails . I aspire to have some kind of channel and, like you, vowed that I would never post a thumbnail like that.
Love your content. Glad you’re back. Love your philosophy. You’d already earned my trust with your methodical approach, and have strengthened it here.
Welcome back and congrats on the new job. I’ve never watched your videos and then felt like you didn’t “deliver”. Your methodical review process and calm demeanor are enjoyable to me. Oh, and everyone likes cooler reviews. I mean, who doesn’t have one and still want to know if there’s a better one for next time around.
Awesome! Thank you!
Welcome back 🙂 Looking forward to seeing how 2023 will look like 👍 What are your other channels?

Roots and Peaks brought me here
Would it be possible to 3d print the leg holders a trekking pole chair. Something like the Get Out Gear TrekChair or the Mülibex Trekking Pole Chair?
Sad that such a quality channel has so infrequent videos, but I understand. However, it is about ot be eight months again - where is the cooler video? :)
Seems like a good creator wish he would post more 10 months and no videos.
Brookings recently had an interesting panel debate with former US FCC Chair: Techlash: Who makes the rules in the digital Gilded Age?
Also, mad respect for your take on the youtube stuff. Huge annoyance for me too, and I think it says a lot about your character that you feel that way about it. Shows a grounded individual, in my opinion, to take notice of that and choose to reject it.
You are so right about fomo and cringe
❤️🩹👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
7:33 - you have two months to crank out a video!
It was the MrBeast clickbait thumbnails with his stupid mouth always wide open in shock that got to me
Glad the covid didn't get ya!
Just found your Channel because I'm building out a backpacking setup. I really dig the content and this video but I noticed it was 11 months old and when I went to check the most recent videos this was it the most recent video. Sorry my man but I had to unsubscribe and I only just subscribed today. Hope life is treating you well and it's taken down the path that you do belong
