Now you have me wondering about the Transit's alternator. I'm going to have to do some digging and see if I should install that wiring kit to dump the excess amps.
I have done some digging and I think that we have another problem with lithium and alternator charging. Seems like lithium poses a problem when charging at low engine speeds and overheating the alternator to the point of failure. Maybe not so safe to alternator charge while parked unless you have a high idle. Seems like the wiring kit only protects against an event that causes a sudden disconnect of the batteries from the alternator. I still think that the surge switch is needed but it might only be one piece of the puzzle. I noticed the new Transits have an automatic engine start for charging and high idle. Mine doesn't have either of those and that makes me suspicious of charging while parked.
Duely noted on the Ocala RV dealership. That is infuriating. You've given me the motivation to install my replacement alternator myself. I have a 170 amp replacement alternator that I got from Dale also. He is great to talk to. I also got the protection module. it seems simple enough. My belt looks fine. But would you still recommend I replace it as well?
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have had similar experiences with Transwest in CO. I think my new Class C is having the same issue. It has a 2nd alternator and it's making a horrible noise. Can you let me know how I can tell if it's the alternator? I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Thanks!
well you could lay under and try to listen or take the belt off and start the RV mine froze and caugth fire Crazy I will have a vid up this week with all part numbers and links
Unfortunately, that seems to be how the whole RV industry is these days.
