    DUDE, GREAT REVIEW. Great fun. I bought one of these and we just love it. Also, and I have to admit this: I could not figure out the solar light part. I understood it to be at the top of the umbrella, not the pole. That's because I am a trained engineer AND a dipshit. Been looking online for troubleshooting and ran across your review...and there it was, the solar battery atop the pole...JUST like it is meant to be. Hot tip, the hole at the center of the umbrella does not work for the solar light.

    We bought this umbrella in April 2021. Loved it. Then we noticed the cord started fraying….and noticed a design flaw under the center, where the cord is dragged over a sharp piece of plastic. Fast forward a few weeks and the black sheathing of that cord gets totally severed, and now all we see is the interior white nylon. Now the nylon is fraying : every time we open and close the umbrella, the cord is running (at high tension) over a sharp plastic edge. Been working with the manufacturer on this mfg defect for 3 weeks. They say they’ve never heard of such a thing before and have offered an exchange at Lowe’s. Problem is, that’s at least 6 hours of additional work (unload 200 lbs of sand from existing base, pack it all up, schlep it back to the store, pick up a new one, schlep it home, re-fill new base, set-up) and the best part? The design flaw is still there and we will be at square 1 in 2 months time. We are heartbroken because we love this umbrella so much: it’s the only one that works exactly as promised (except for the whole cord thing). Note: be forewarned: there are lots of complaints about the solar wiring being cut from the rotation of the unit.

    • @GReviewz
      @GReviewz  Před 2 lety

      I understand your frustration. Mine is still working just fine. Of all the comments on here I haven’t heard anyone else say the main line was frayed. The fact the company is letting you swap it out at Lowe’s is pretty good. Most people that go through Lowe’s directly get nothing. Never rotate the umbrella more than 270 degrees.

    I have one a little newer version on the turning lever. My question is: the center where the ribs meet is an 'X'. I turned it and the tube let down a handle. What is that used for? I've been using it to steady the umbrella on windy days. I bring the umbrella down a bit so I can hold the handle while seated at my table. When a strong gust comes, I grab the handle. Is that its main purpose? Also, is there a way to stabilize it more in the wind? It seems we have a lot here in the spring.

    • @GReviewz
      @GReviewz  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching I am not really sure. I don’t believe I have any handles on mine. Unless you saw it in my review video. Any faster wind than 25mph and I close the umbrella all together it’s just too nice of a unit to let the wind break it. If you want it opened that much you could try tie lines from some of the umbrella poles to the ground like a tent to hold it better?

    Thank you for making this video! It was very useful for convincing my wife that we need two. I just have two questions, can the umbrella with the pole be detached fairly easily for winter storage? If you buy a cover for the umbrella, will it cover the solar panel on top of the pole or does it just cover the umbrella part?
    UPDATE: Pole is attached by two bolts so it's super easy to remove for winter storage. An offset umbrella cover will cover the solar panel and cause it not to charge.

      @@MrLozts thank you! Yes, the ones mine has take a pretty big allen wrench. But then I realized, maybe they changed the design cuz I bought mine recently, I remembered that the weighted base is in sections and is just sitting on the x-shaped metal base, and the parts that I filled with water and sand aren't even attached, so I just took those off and then was super easy to move the entire thing. Hope they keep that design.

    • @GReviewz
      @GReviewz  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching and for the positive feedback. The umbrella does surprisingly well in wind. If you look at the canopy it has a wind opening in the top to help. I’d say 20mph wind and lower. Anything over that I normally make it more slack or put it down all the way. But that’s just me.. it can handle more.

    We bought the SimplyShade 11’ cantilever umbrella in May 2020 from Lowe’s. We like it except that the LED lights stopped working almost immediately. The company sent us a new light switch to replace the old one and the lights worked again for two times. We called the company who said the design of the metal frame cuts the electric wire and they would send a new-improved frame. We will need to take the whole thing apart, remove the canvas on our present umbrella and replace it on the the new frame. So if you do buy this umbrella, make sure it has the new-improved frame design. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how you would be able to determine that!

    We bought one of these about a week ago, set it all up, and the LEDs didn't work. Turns out the lever used to rotate it cut the wires inside the stand because they weren't taped to the inside wall. They gave us a replacement, which we hda to wait on until last Friday. Set it up, they worked great... until we tried to rotate it again, and it messed up the wire again.

      Thanks for watching. The Umbrella is holding up really well for us. No problems w the lighting as of now. A lot of people are complaining about the lighting going out and tearing the wires internally. I never rotate my umbrella 360 degrees. I only ever rotate it 180 degree either way so to not stretch the wires...

      You have to go to the manufacturer website.. or go to a canvas company and they can make a new canvas for the umbrella.
