Obviously depending on one's gaming preferences, but (combat) flying in VR is one of the best PC applications of VR in my opinion and IL2 Sturmovik for sure does an outstanding job of making the game playable and enjoyable in VR.
MSFS is pretty amazing too. I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the games I enjoy in VR. MSFS 2020, IL-2, Star Wars Squadrons, Elite Dangerous (less so recently) f122, ACC, and many other non-sim games. And the 4090 combined with a high res HMD is what I always dreamed VR would be in the future.
Very nice. And I must say I don't really miss not having clickable cockpits in IL-2. With these warbirds, there's not a whole lot you need to mess with once you're in the air, and then it's mostly things that are better suited of axes anyway (throttle, prop pitch etc) so having it all on HOTAS works fine for me. Really just the start up that you miss out on.
Try IL2 VR without Steam VR. Runs like butter in native WMR (Reverb G2) helped by openxr and openxr tools. What a game changer! See VR flightsim guy for details.
I'll likely pick up Normandy when they release a scripted campaign that requires it. I much prefer handcrafted missions instead of randomly generated missions.

Great video, I wandered away from IL2 6 months ago but Normandy got me back. It’s absolutely awesome. But can you share your VR settings and setup? I have a 3090ti and reverb G2 and wondered what the best settings are for this sim.
Anyone here who has a good setup for IL-2 in VR, i'm using the Quest 2, getting 72fps stable on Ultra settings but whatever I do and tweak, my resolution is not going up, I can't ID planes or vehicles from far and it really takes away my immersion..
IL2 is not constantly GPU bounded. Depending on your setup and the place you are flying you can be CPU bounded as well. Of course it heavily depend on the graphic details you are asking for as well.

Interesting, think I tried this but no matter what I do it launches in Steam. Is there a special method of running it so Steam doesn’t know?
Is it possible to do the same but for Quest 2? To force it directly into Oculus without Steam VR middleware.

How true to life are the flight dynamics eg as good as msfs 2020, Xplane 11. Do all the switches levers etc work
