What suprises me the most is that they didn't thought of going down the mountain earlier, specially after hearing that there was no ond looking for them anymore
because they needed to wait until Spring, otherwise the low temperatures and avalanches would have killed them
The Andes is a massive range of mountains. It's not just about going down one mountain, it's going down, around, over tons of mountains.
It was to cold to survive at night outside the plane, took them weeks and several expeditions to find the way to survive the cold and be able to do the long hiking
What surprises me the most is that you don't know how HUGE and incredibly cold this mountain RANGE is! Going away from the plane was their last resource and they could die!
of course they would've thought of it. they were likely just extremely afraid and unsure, because the snow was to their waists and it was 4 days of walking in the freezing cold with little food away.
Nando wasn’t just another passenger. First off they were all friends and what he and Roberto did was remarkable. They hiked 70km which took them ten days. They got sick and suffered frostbite. Also there was only one man on horseback.

My father is a friend of one of the survivors. He is doing great, and somehow, he still travels on airplanes, BUT now he brings everything he needs just in case, mostly canned foods.
