The packs which you get crafting metals are the packs you buy with Apex coins. Maybe you open the Apex packs they send to you can have different things like skins, charms and quips.

This was me in season 6. i literally had everything and over 100k crafting and every heirloom. And had enough crafting to unlock every collection event item for 5 seasons.
