I can't remember who pointed out and where, but they made the connection between drag makeup and 2016 CZcams makeup being basically an equal sign. All these extra steps - baking, contouring, the bold eyes, the big lashes, the beam to outer space highlighter are all drag/stage makeup techniques.
It was definitely drag style makeup but I think the Kardashians made it popular for everyone to do.
I'm ready for the "natural look" to come back. Lol
This was said a lot back in 2016 as well. The “instagram” makeup look
it is a drag make up. if you look at any drag make up tutorial, it all has the same step and exaggeration to the make up

tbh i say ignore wether it's "making a comeback" or not, just do whatever makeup style you love, i mean who to say we have to depend on whatever trend tiktok picks up? i do early 90s makeup like every day i go out even though i don't see it being viral or anything cuz honestly who cares! you go girl!
Right I'm still rocking funky eye shadow and Idgaf. I was picking up a lip liner and a woman working on the nyx counter told me she loved my eye shadow (I was the nicest duochrome) and said it was nice to see someone wearing colour because the clean girl look is cool but its kinda boring and I just laughed but kinda agreed. We can be so creative with make up and everyone doing the same trend takes the creativity out of it
Tbh I think the only reason "clean girl" got popular is because people were copying folks who just do bare minimum for work lol

Exactly! I only wear black. Nothing else ever. So I want my eyeshadow to be more colorful, to use colors that suit me that way. I don’t care if it’s on trend or not. Everyone else already looks like everyone else. We should do what we like.
Same I love a 60s eye look I don't have the energy to be changing my makeup look based on trends!
2016 was when I first started getting really into makeup, and to this day the insane amount of highighter has me in a chokehold. You won't catch me without it.

She needed a dark matte liquid lip
And when you use an orange/red highlight, it looks like someone's trying to snipe your eyes off
I’ve always used a mix of 2016 techniques and today’s and it’s absolutely the way to go! 2016 eyeshadow but just mascara, no fake lashes,medium coverage foundation with a satin finish, beaming highlight but underneath blush, well blended contour with an actual contour shade, natural, full and neat brows but never brushed up or carved, well blended bronzer to mimic a tan and well blended blush and light bake only on tzone never to set under eye concealer and very little concealer to begin with only on darkest part of eye circles. I like all lip products too but usually glossy over matte.
I still happy with that fake tipsy japanese makeup with blushes everywhere, even when the trend is already dead in its origin country 😅

This era was crazy, but honestly i think doing the eyes (maybe the brows too) might be a good tip for me. Looks easier to correct without having to replace the foundation plus they're the hardest part.

I do 2016 eyes with the clean girl look today. I love light or no foundation with colorful dramatic eyes with lots of dark eyeliner. ❤
Yes!! I still do dramatic eyes but have always worn my face makeup more natural looking! I have TOO MANY eyeshadow palettes that I refuse to let go to waste so I never participated in the eye makeup of today which is basically nothing 😅

I remember watching so many videos like this in 2016! People got really creative and I was EATING IT UP! Do I wear makeup? No, just lipstick mostly. 🤣 but thats why I love your long form make up videos!

it was this 2016 style makeup that made Vogue beauty serets videos so interesting to watch. Nowadays its soo boring cz everyone there does simple minimal makeup
What? 2016 was Just as boring because everyone used the same viral products and techniques like Kim K contour and baking, cutcreases and overdrawn Kylie lips. The interesting thing was if they used normal amounts of product with proper tools or if they dripped it on and applied it with a shoe or kitchen sponge.
Damn this makeup look was so iconic it represented a whole generation. All the products too, holy shit I feel like I've been transported back in time. My only gripe was the absence of a liquid lipstick and the potato head at the beginning😂 It would be my go to look for when the hottest tea is being spilt (just for the memories). But alas my favourite look is the no makeup makeup look, literally. Anyway, makeup styles may have changed but Darcei's still snatched whether it's the rOmAnTiC eyeshadow or the black lipstick, slay kween.

8 years later and no joke, I still do the 2016 brows up until now because that what suits me the best. Make up should be fun, feel free to wear 2016 make up at 2024, or the next year, or the next! Doesn't matter as long as you're happy with your look. You slay ♥️
I was just 13 in 2016. Didn't know anything about makeup at that time. But it seems so fun and colourful, especially the eye looks.
Omg the rose eyeshadow is such a nostalgic throwback for me lol. Every eyeshadow palette back then was rose gold or pink. Honestly rose gold is still king but more subtle than that. I think the stress of pandemic as well as prioritizing mental health, skincare, and healing, makeup and clothes are more simple and minimal looking. I am in the middle, I love that we don’t have to try as hard and can embrace our skin, but dressing up is fun and it’s boring to only wear sweatpants and moisturizer all the time

The beauty of not jumping on the trends is that once I learned how to do that makeup around that time I never changed it drastically, so I still do my face like that. Love my glam and would never turn to delicate "clean" version.

I do a few of these sort of techniques in my makeup that I do today (more on the emo side of things as well) so I guess I didn't quite escape the 10s unscathed, lol

Darcei did 2016 makeup justice!!! Missed her longer formed videos 😁💜 I almost always seem to do glam makeup when I do my makeup because it's fun to! I personally love glitter and do a glittery eye look a lot anyways even if it took a few hours you did great and look fabulous!
I was expecting for the classic super dry matte long lasting nude liquid lipstick after the lip liner ngl but other than that this was very on point!
Oh this got me in the feels!!! Those loud music in the intro with transitions, that subcribe button that use to be in the intro along with press the bell icon, that bright colourful bg oh and especially that 'bokeh' bg ifykyk😭😭😭
