DIY Kia Optima automatic rising trunk

  • You can buy these rubber bungees at Harbor Freight or Home Depot and you're just basically creating tension on the hinge so when you close the trunk it stretches the rubber bungee and once you unlock it obviously the rubber bungee wants to retract so it will pull on the trunk hinge causing the trunk to open, pretty simple. I originally got the idea from Jae Peter Yoon • kia optima k5 [DIY] : ... so a big thanks to him.

    Definitely will try it next week...I am not a physicist lol but I think putting one on each side would help balance out the tension more evenly so that the bungee cords will last longer.

    What's funny is when I first purchased my optima it sprung open all the way, after about 2 weeks it's stopped and did what yours does. I need to try this!

    It's funny, I was just thinking about this fix this morning.I have a Dodge Neon and my left trunk spring broke.So far I installed a bolt and nut with a fender washer and I'm waiting on that new adjustable spring lifting device to come in the mail.I thought about getting a rubber bungee and drill a hole in the center of it ant install it on that new bolt and install the other end with the hook in the original location on the inner fender structure.All I need it to do is to reduce the weight of the trunk.Its soo heavy maybe because of the spoiler.But this was a GREAT VIDEO and you read my mind today.

      Joel Panglao try the ones from harbor freight. I'm assuming Lowes and home depot should have good ones. Mine has not snapped, but then again I live in Florida with higher humidity

    I tried this method on my kia but after a few weeks it stopped working since the rubber bungee stretched out and eventually ripped apart

    • @Jesusking_

      some brands have better bungee material than others

    Would be nice with a full power trunk, Mercedes-Benz S-Class style!

  • @garattyfisher
    @garattyfisher Před 5 lety +1

    So, basically, you want to buy a basic rubber bungee and add tension on the hinges basically adding tension. This will basically spring the trunk open when you hit the button. Sounds pretty basic.

    Planning to purchase a 14 Optima EX from Carvana!! How was the process?? Did you receive your registration and tags in the mail??

    • @Jesusking_
      @Jesusking_  Před 7 lety +1

      James E. Yes I got it in the mail a few weeks after the purchase. I have a $500 off coupon code if you need just let me know

    • @_antdaking
      @_antdaking Před 7 lety +1

      RRGMedia I wasn't aware that D.C. has a state restriction on those codes, so I wouldn't be able to use it. Another question tho! When did they take the down payment from your account? I have a delivery date of 2/25 but I'll have the rest of the money in my account this weekend. Would that hold up the process(not having the entire amount today)?

    • @Jesusking_
      @Jesusking_  Před 7 lety +1

      James E. As long as you have it by the time of delivery you should be fine. I had a draft check from my bank for a used car loan so I just presented them with a picture of the front and back as proof of payment via email. I'm not sure if they require something from you before the delivery date just give them a call they are up front
