DIY Kia Optima automatic rising trunk
zhlédnutí 117KPřed 7 lety
You can buy these rubber bungees at Harbor Freight or Home Depot and you're just basically creating tension on the hinge so when you close the trunk it stretches the rubber bungee and once you unlock it obviously the rubber bungee wants to retract so it will pull on the trunk hinge causing the trunk to open, pretty simple. I originally got the idea from Jae Peter Yoon czcams.com/video/w1rAx8-4T...
Genius, I'm going to try this
Beautiful...thank u ..
Took a little because my cord was longer but worked as described 👍
Would be nice with a full power trunk, Mercedes-Benz S-Class style!
I’d be worried about the latch having wear
It's funny, I was just thinking about this fix this morning.I have a Dodge Neon and my left trunk spring broke. So far I installed a bolt and nut with a fender washer and I'm waiting on that new adjustable spring lifting device to come in the mail.I thought about getting a rubber bungee and drill a hole in the center of it ant install it on that new bolt and install the other end with the hook in the original location on the inner fender structure. All I need it to do is to reduce the weight of the trunk. Its soo heavy maybe because of the spoiler. But this was a GREAT VIDEO and you read my mind today.
Dude awesome, this is serious engineering brian. Low cost and to the point. Are you an engineer by any chance? Hats off

Why you hiding your tag? you do realize that when you drive around, umm, we can see your...umm...tag, Oh and guess what..All the information of your tag/taxes/name/address/etc...etc...Is all Public information, ya dummy!!
Shut your useless mouth
What they film this with a potato ?
Great thanks!
Thanks bro, just did the mod after watching the video. No damages over time?
Bvrty
How the fuck do you lag in real life 😂
There's a whole lot different holes in your Kias trunk compared to mines.. And i have that same model.. All thought here in country it's not called SX limited, it's Business Luxury..
I went from a 2012 Focus that did this stock to a 2017 Cruze and was bummed to lose this. Thanks dude!
Noiceee cant wait to try it out😂
useless unless it Opens/Closes Fully with Button
WOW, How Dumb are you?
Great. How often do you change out the strap ?
What year optima is this?
2013
Genius!
That is some janky shit.
So, basically, you want to buy a basic rubber bungee and add tension on the hinges basically adding tension. This will basically spring the trunk open when you hit the button. Sounds pretty basic. Where's my Psycho Mike fans at?

12" or what size bungy cord?
About 10"
Mine doesn't pop open like that it just unlocks when I hit the button
my 2013 Optima SXL truck lid only 'cracks' open about an 1/8" ....are they supposed to open higher? if so how much higher?
Try a shorter bungee
I gotta try that
Awesome!
What length bungee cord did you use for this video?
Maybe 10"? Not exactly sure.
Nice where I can got it
This is for my sonata and optima owners ❤. Grocery time will now be easyy
Buy a better brand and you won't have this problem.
Why you watch the video then ole muscle head ass
@@bryantjones7749 Like what? A Piece of Shit Tesla. LOL Yeah right Buddy
Its in slow motion?
CREATIVE
I don’t have that Kia but great idea man!!
good stuff man... ill try this. Thanks!
Really? Moron...
life will get better for you, have patience.
I tried this method on my kia but after a few weeks it stopped working since the rubber bungee stretched out and eventually ripped apart
some brands have better bungee material than others
Cool, inexpensive idea. And you really do not see the bungee. Thanks for posting.
Definitely will try it next week...I am not a physicist lol but I think putting one on each side would help balance out the tension more evenly so that the bungee cords will last longer.
Thank you'
What's funny is when I first purchased my optima it sprung open all the way, after about 2 weeks it's stopped and did what yours does. I need to try this!
still works after 4 years. opens all the way
Yeah, i did exactly YOU did in this video...aaaaand my bungie cord broke two days ago! The rubber on my cord snapped from closing my trunk only a few times.
Joel Panglao try the ones from harbor freight. I'm assuming Lowes and home depot should have good ones. Mine has not snapped, but then again I live in Florida with higher humidity
Planning to purchase a 14 Optima EX from Carvana!! How was the process?? Did you receive your registration and tags in the mail??
James E. Yes I got it in the mail a few weeks after the purchase. I have a $500 off coupon code if you need just let me know
RRGMedia I wasn't aware that D.C. has a state restriction on those codes, so I wouldn't be able to use it. Another question tho! When did they take the down payment from your account? I have a delivery date of 2/25 but I'll have the rest of the money in my account this weekend. Would that hold up the process(not having the entire amount today)?
James E. As long as you have it by the time of delivery you should be fine. I had a draft check from my bank for a used car loan so I just presented them with a picture of the front and back as proof of payment via email. I'm not sure if they require something from you before the delivery date just give them a call they are up front
