- Welcome to "Why Did I Keep It Wednesday'"!!
We have created a short video series about some of my oldest surviving builds from when I got back into the hobby.
I haven't saved much from my early days of model car building but I would like to share with you what I DO have!
We hope you enjoy our trips back in time as I critique my older builds.
BG
Not even a question. You keep all your precious builds. Amazing kit, I love the tu-tone yellow on white.
Hi Laurence!! Exactly! Well said!! 😁
Awesome build from the past with an awesome backstory.. I'm glad it's survived so long with all the moving you've done.
Thank you Mario!! Every move I would sometimes lose one build to damage. So having this one as a survivor is extremely special. 😁
@@BGsModelWorkshop your welcome Sir.. plus with that back story of it , it sure is a special one. I made a replica of my Dad's 49 Merc for him as a father's day gift and got pretty much the same reaction you got from your Dad lol.. so I can relate to that story plus losing models on a move so many lost or damaged ..
OMG Bryan, my Dad had a 66 Chevy pick up in a similar paint scheme back in the early 70's! His yellow was a little more orange/yellow but he also had a white roof. His grill and bumpers were also painted white. He also had exhaust pipes stacks coming up behind the cab.(to get that big rig look) We called it the "Yellow Submarine" and then the "Popcorn Popper" for the exhaust sound after he had installed the exhaust stacks. He sold that truck and then got a 76 Chevy Scottsdale pick up in black. I have the kits in my stash to build them someday. Thanks for posting this build, it brought back a lot of memories & put a smile on my face.😀
Tom S.
Hi Tom! Oh wow!! I am so glad that this brought back such cool memories! My dad's truck was a school bus yellow, (I was rubbish at mixing colors back then so I didn't even try) and had the white bumpers too! Also a long bed 1 ton!! He sold the truck to my mom's cousin, she had the truck painted black and put Ford hub caps on it. 🤦
Great build. Definitely keep as is. It's history. Prehistoric BG from the Testorzoic age.
LOL, well said Rob!! 😁
Wow the truck looks amazing awesome
Thanks Travis! An oldie but a goodie! 😁
Love old Chevy pickups, I can see why you kept it and it was a memory of your dad!
Exactly!! 😁
Thanks for sharing BG. It looks great for a 20 year old build.😀
Hi Jim! Thank you!! Right?! I can't get over how well it has survived!
What an amazing build. It's a very clean looking just right
Thanks Carl!!!🙏😁
Still looks great after all those moves!! My uncle had a 65, mintish green and white cab. I wish I had that truck today!
Hi Johnny! Thank you!! OMG right?! These trucks go for big time money now! I wish you had that truck also!
It’s always great to see these builds in your home in person, but even better when I hear the history behind the builds. Keep these Wednesday videos coming!
Thank you so much Brandon. I plan too, Just needed a break this week. Glad you are enjoying them!
She's a " KEEPER " Bryan 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Amazing " Save " All These Yrs. Thanks For Sharing n Have a Blessed " Humpday " 🙏🤗 Gary.
Hi Gary!! Thanks my friend! You as well!! And a great weekend too!! 😊
👍👍
Oh yea that's a keeper for sure just because it survived nice job BG well done ..
Thanks Deen!! I need to get this one a case and display it next to my modern builds!
Thanks for sharing the backstory. Shows well on camera and I love that era of truck!
Thank you Billy! In the past, didn't display this one in the house because I was slightly embarrassed by how it came out. However! I now have it on display next to more modern builds so I can reflect on progression. 😊
@@BGsModelWorkshop Awesome! As you should!
Very cool! It’s always nice to see older builds!
Thanks Raoul!! I agree! 100%
I love the concept of this show. Great idea, Bud!
Thank you my friend!! ☺️ I feel you could do volumes with a format like this!
Great looking 66 Bryan, my first vehicle was a 64, 283, 3 speed, no a/c, manual steering, manual drum brakes, that's what I learned to drive in, sure do miss it, 😎👍
Hi Tom!! Oh man that truck sounded great!! 😁 I bet you had some serious forearms in no time! I recall my dad's having a large steering wheel. I bet that helped with leverage! Thanks for sharing my friend!
I can relate my 64 was a step side 327 4 speed gave me 18 stitches fixing the side pipes that ran up the back of the cab
Nice clean build Bryan. Definitely keep it as is. I did a video a couple of weeks back about seeing your progress with old builds.👍👍😉
Hi Al!! 👋 Sweet!! I'll search that one out!! Thanks for stopping by!
Even back then you were great at models
Wow, thank you Matt, you are very kind my friend!
It's fun to compare older builds. I bought a second kit of my first build which I may do in a few years knowing what I know now.
Right! Oh that is a cool idea!! I have a few kits stashed away that are replacements for models I tried to build in my early days and failed at big time. I hope to one day build them as I had originally intended and do a better job of it!
Great job Bryan!!! Nice clean build. Ilike the yellow color. Glad you were able to hang onto it.
Thanks Chris!! 😁 I feel I will keep it for ever now! 🙏
@@BGsModelWorkshop
Yes do!!!!!
I have had a MPC Ford Flip nose that is one of my very first builds that I kept thinking I would rebuild - until last year when I found one in the most recent collection sale at Andy’s.
Plan is now to build the “new” kit and display with the one from the 90’s untouched as a reminder of what I did with builds before. Definitely hold on to this one.
Hi Scott! Oh that is perfect!! 😊 Please post pics on Facebook when you tackle that one!!
Very clean build!!! Love the wood grain. Very cool that it held up , definitely one to save, especially with the back story!!
Thank you Chris!! Agreed! For me, it's all about the back story that makes it so important!
Awesome 👍👍
Thank you Eric!!😁
Hi Bryan. It's a terrific build. I really like the wood grain of the bed. Looks like a very convincing method. I could go on and on about keeping old builds. Since this one has moved so much, she's definitely a keeper. Especially since it has such memories attached to it. I'll always keep my childhood builds. I was about 10 or 13 when I did them and they have fond memories. Most of them have not been reissued either or are just coming back 50 years later. You can always find another kit and get the 3D prints. Actually, I think I had a kit of the AMT GMC version back in the day. There's parts of it, like the bed in red, floating around my old parts box.
Hi Vince!
Thank you!! I will probably have to relearn that bed painting technique again! LOL. I tried to save my childhood builds, but I would break them up for parts. Snag an engine or wheels or seats. Stuff like that. I wish I had a few of them still, just look at and reminisce over. I do have a few model kits in the stash that I consider nostalgia builds. I plan to one day build them as I had intended to all those years ago. 😊
Love your truck Brian! Whoever gave the advice was correct. I do agree that it is hard not to use some new skills and improve a build you really like. 😎👍
Thank you! My buds never steer me wrong! 🙂
For an early model, that looks pretty darn good to me!
Thank you Mike!! 🙏😁
That is very cool.
Thanks Mars!! 😁
I know why you kept it, brother, that's a SWEET build!! ✌️😁
Thank you Steve! ☺️ I appreciate you saying no! 🙏
great video!
Thank you Sean!!!☺️
Very nice job on this truck. Love it.
Thank you Paul!! 😁
Very cool older build still looks good it’s fun to go back and see how far we have improved on the hobby k.u.t.g.w.
Thank you my friend!! 😁
very cool build of your dad's truck BG. Thanks for sharing it with us sir.
Thanks Bubba!! Much appreciated!! 😁
Very cool sir nice build
Thank you sir! 😁
Pretty kewl build Bryan. Love the pickups.
Thank you Zippi!! i feel these are one of the best designed pickups ever!
@@BGsModelWorkshop I hear ya man. I dig the pickups.
Awsome Build
Thank you John!!! 😊
@@BGsModelWorkshop your welcome
Cool old built BG 👍 The '65 and '66 Chevy C10 from Revell are on my list of kits to get. My 1960 Chevy C10 needs a couple friends lol 😆 😂 👍😎
Thanks! LOL, these kits are addicting! So much that can be done with them!! 😁 I hope you score a couple of them!!
I think it's Great you still have it. Nice looking Build!!!! The reason I ever started Throwback Thursday is for the very purpose of showing building skill progression. I Hope to see more!!!! Thanks for sharing
Hi Mike! Thank you so much!! I took inspiration from your channel and love the throw back Thursdays. I hope you don't mind me borrowing on your theme?
@@BGsModelWorkshop I don't mind at all. I was inspired by Butch at BK model cars years ago. Hope to see more builds Bryan. Again, Thanks for sharing
Definitely keep it! It is not a bad build at all.
Thank you so much Mark!!! 🙏😁 I feel I will keep it forever now!
I've always been tempted to get this kit. It's nice to how it can come out in the end.
Thanks John I feel it's a great kit. I swear I have built 3 of them so far and loved every one of them!
That’s a nice pickup BG! I’m currently working on a 60 Chevy Apache for the Garage. This is great inspiration! Looks great for an older build. I love the colors…great choices! 😎👍🏾
Thank you so much Cliff!!! 😁 I am loving your 60 build!
@@BGsModelWorkshop thanks! Your colors remind me of the 66 Chevy Fleetside truck I did back in 2020.
Nice piece of your model history! Enjoyed the story!
Thank you!!!😁 I feel the story behind it is what makes me keep it. ☺️
Very cool old build Bryan. Great story, Ron
Thanks Ron!! 😁 One from the archives! 😁
Thats a great looking model, for one of your earlier builds ,and a nice back story.
Thank you Martin!! I think, every time I consider letting go of the model, that story comes back and I end up putting it back in storage. 😁
Sweet build BG! I'd keep it! I'm keeping all my current builds. Wish I'd kept all my builds when I was younger!
Howdy! Thank you!! I now wish I had kept more of mine too.
Its held up well, looking good still
Thank you!! I feel real lucky this one made all these trips and stayed so safe.
Sweet old build brother and great back story on it!
Thank you Paul! Glad you liked it. I kind of took inspiration from some of your videos and some videos I see from Michael Hints and his throw back Thursday videos! 😁
@@BGsModelWorkshop Very cool! It is fun looking back at our past builds/projects and seeing some progression!!!
Man thats really cool!!!
Thank you my friend!! ☺️
Why do you keep it? Cause it's an awesome build. Also it's got sentimental value. There's still plenty of those kits around so there's no reason to rebuild that one. I'm a believer in leaving things as built so you can see how your skills progressed. I hope this is a new thing with your channel, pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Alan! 100% agree! Well said!! 😁 Yep, I am hoping to make a few more videos along this line to share
Nice
Thank you!!! 😊
Nice Build that colors is perfect for that body style my grandpa use to own one but it was a lighter yellow with tan insides
Very cool!! I'm surprised to hear how many folks either know someone or have had one of these trucks! I feel there are few color schemes this truck would look bad in. 😁 Thanks for sharing!! ☺️🙏
@BGsModelWorkshop no kidding the baby blue and white would be bad ssA too 🔥
YES!!!!!!
Cool video Bryan👍
Thank you Paul!! 😁
Nice older build
Thank you!!! 😁 I'll be proudly displaying this one with my more current builds
You keep it cause its deluxe
Nicely done
Thanks Butch!! 😊 Agreed!!!
Thats a nice build. When did you start building models. I just showed one that I built almost 50 years ago.Does that make me old? Thanks for sharing
Hi Sam! Nah, you are only as old as you want to feel. 😁 I started when I was 10, so about 40 years ago. BUT! I have only been back at it seriously for about 7 years now.
👍👍👍
😁
Do you still have your first model car build? I still have my first two, a lot of other early builds didn't survive.😊
Hi John, sadly no I don't. That one lasted until I was in highschool, then got parted out..
I'd say thats the 64 Chevy kit, the emblems on the fenders are different.
Ah ha! Thank you!! 😊
My first build as an adult was absolute trash. A revell cobra. None of the glass made it, windshield cream is completely broken, the paint is god awful. I keep it to remind myself where i started and to not get to full of myself.
Hi Justin, that is an excellent example my friend! I hope you show that old Cobra build sometime. 😊
