    This is way past his prime, he is so much stronger on 2011-2014 but he is on good form here.

      Actually this is his prime with the new of plastic ball because back in 2011 it was celluloid ball.

      Even in 2016 he was still the best of the world. I still don’t believe Ma Long was able to grab the olympic gold medal from him. He must have to give it to Ma Long.

    • @xkxmud5136
      @xkxmud5136 Před 3 lety

      @Harvey Powell did you know in China there is a tradition that someone has to give up a opportunity of winning only because the management want them to?

    • @davidyu1813
      @davidyu1813 Před 3 lety

      @@xkxmud5136 there WAS this tradition decades ago, and a few good players left the national team in 20th century because of this. Now this tradition no longer exists. Zhang Jike is a legend, but it's also true that his style has greater chance of getting injuries. In 2016 he had to get pain killers in order to complete the Olympics games. If you look at his career, he hardly got any medals after 2016. His style was really exploiting his health for victory.

      Zjk in 2016 is not really good compared to years before but still managed to get into final with Ml in Olympics . Lol. He not even trying.

  • @ethanfoxall8033

    If not for his injury I really think he could have been the best of all time. He always played so relaxed, he could flip almost anything and was great at playing down the line. I do think ma long is a little better but I always enjoyed watching zhang jike more. He has swagger haha

    • @adihakim4663
      @adihakim4663 Před 3 lety +7

      To me ma long has more solid techinque execution in his shots, but zjk definitely more artistic than him..

    • @adihakim4663
      @adihakim4663 Před 3 lety

      @Lonestar Papa well i agree that playstyle of ma long is more better to compete with almost all styles of play..betting on him to win a game is more better decision..but for someone who enjoys the artistic view of the game, ma long is more like a textbook perfection..so its not wrong though to assume that way..i mean every player has their own unique ways indeed..people's preference though..

    • @michaelwang6552
      @michaelwang6552 Před 3 lety +2

      @@adihakim4663 Most people over the years have actually said the opposite - virtually all of ZJK’s techniques are textbook, whereas Ma Long incorporates more artistry into his game with his chop blocks and magical forehand versatility. ZJK’s my favourite player of all time and I wish he got to stay healthy and played many more matches against ML

    • @adihakim4663
      @adihakim4663 Před 3 lety

      @@michaelwang6552 yeah..i like zjk too..but i think the textbook perfection if referring to zjk, i think not all of his attributes are like that, but one thing for sure i can say is that his backhand flick has become the new textbook perfection when rarely players back in the days do that, now we can see quite more often the technique..idk, i might be wrong though..for ma long, he's mainly the new textbook perfection with the plastic ball, and his game flow, also his superb ball judgement, which kinda set as more high standard in the modern game today, and more effective..which is why i refer Ma long to more of textbook perfection..but i might be wrong though..cause so far i only from my pov as the sports enthusiast...not much from the pov of pro players...but hypothetically speaking seeing their way of play..even you and i know how different it is back then, even before their generation, the game play is totally different, more looping instead of counter drive..and there were more blockers and cutters too, compare to now..well at least on pro lvel only if we want to see about it..doesn't apply much for semi pro and below..where there are more variations of playstyles..

    I feel that ittf needs to switch back to the 40mm ball, since some people still use the 40mm bal and are good at it. Not only that, the new ball causes injuries (as seen from ERT's blog), but i don't know the reason why.

    • @nunojorge1832
      @nunojorge1832 Před 3 lety +1

      We are using 40 mm balls now ... You must mean 38 mm. Ittf already explained that they changed the size and material of the balls to have more rallies and longer ones to make the game more interesting to watch.

    • @nunojorge1832
      @nunojorge1832 Před 3 lety +2

      The ball itself does not cause injuries the problem is that the players to put the same speed on the ball need to use more body strength and in the end it ends up causing more injuries

    • @buttxrontoast-7100
      @buttxrontoast-7100 Před 3 lety

      No, there was a 38 mm ball before i was born, and then there was a 40mm ball until 2016. And now, there is a 40+mm ball, which was very troublesome for the older players. And some players are unaware of this change, so they are using a 40mm ball.

    • @johnwellstewartespiso3690
      @johnwellstewartespiso3690 Před 3 lety

      Well, for me waldner has a shot against zjk. Waldner beat the crap out of timo boll, timo boll adapts to the changes in tt thats why he can compete against top chinese players though he cant beat them. So if you guys are saying that prime waldner cant adapt to this changes then waldner should have been stripped from being a grandslam champ. Prime Waldner is an athlete and he likes to compete so adapting to the new playing styles in tt shouldnt be a problem for him, so yeah for me prime waldner has a shot against prime zjk, he may not beat him atleast waldner has a shot going toe to toe against zjk. These players are called GOAT or Grandslam or anything else for a reason, and that reason is they are the best of the best. Old style or new style, its just the same sports.

    First.
    Lin Gaoyuan is not that strong compare to other Chinese National Team player. Zhang Jike needed to compete Ma Long for example so Lin wasn't serious opponent for him or for other Chinese top 4 player of that time.
    Second.
    Lin Gaoyuan himself is quite weak in domestic competitions. You can see results of any event (Marv 12, Chinese National Games etc.) and he is always below 6 major players. Only once he won Zhou Yu in a best of 3 match (was 1:1 and just one lucky set (for Lin). It was a competition for young Chinese players (not for all of them) and imediately was included in big 4... Strange situation. Still thinking may be Lin Gaoyuan a son of some sport officials of China...
    Third.
    This exect match was held when Lin Gaoyuan was not yet received many personal training sessions with top Chinese coaches.
