      I agree with that, the jumps between PS1-2-3 were insane, the jump between PS3 to 4 was also very impressive. The jump between PS4 and PS5 was like... it's better. But not "better enough" for the console's ridiculous price.

    I think Ps4 era graphics hit the sweetspot between a game looking great and a game not being as expensive or time-consuming to make, so i genuinely believe that standardizing Ps5 or even Ps6-looking games will never happen, they are getting so expensive to make and they take over half a decade to be produced so to guarantee some money back, games HAVE to be live-service, which i and everyone else hates.

    It's a very prominent problem imo, i'm fortunate enough to own both a PS4, PS5 and a gaming PC, and my PS5 is mostly collecting dust except for when i play GTA Online (which i also played on the PS3!) or Hogwarts Legacy and Rift Apart (both of which are on PC now anyway).
    Other than that theres just not much dragging me over to it from the PC and it's a true shame. I use it mostly for media streaming now and it's just tragic. My advice to people is to wait tbh, its not worth the jump from PS4 yet.
    Unlike with the PS3, the jump from 4 to 5 rendered my PS4 completely obsolete, since i can play my entire library from PS4 on the PS5. I'm all for backwards compatibility but it still feels sad to have zero reasons to use my PS4, and with the lack of next gen exclusive games, not much reason to use the PS5 either.

    For a very small channel like yours this video is very well professionally made and edited. Yeah I agree that this next-gen experience feels very dull. I'm going to be honest with you in that there's very few games that are out right now that make me want to say "yeah I want to go get a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S or X." Games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Spider-Man 2 Final Fantasy XVI are only on the PlayStation 5 *for now* until they eventually get ported to PC. And if somebody already has a top-tier gaming rig why the hell are they going to go out and spend $500 for a PlayStation 5 just to play a game for $70 when they can just wait a year or two for the game to get ported to PC? No I don't have a gaming rig and I would love to play these games (I don't have a PS5 nor Xbox Series console) but if I did have a gaming rig why go out and spend that much for a console when I could just sit back and wait and besides if I have a backlog of games I might as well wait and by the time I get through them the game that I want to get the console for it's going to get ported to PC? For example The Last of Us Part 2 finally got ported to PC... Yaaaay..... After getting a PlayStation 5 upgrade *that by the way you have to pay $10 for it because Sony ain't going to give anything away for free anymore* and originally coming out on the PlayStation 4. Why go out and spend $500 on a console to play The Last of Us Part 2 when I could just get a PlayStation 4 and a copy of The Last of Us Part 2 and play it over there? Plus the "innovations" on PS5 don't scream at me "oh yeah I got to get a PS5 to play The Last of Us Part 2 on" when I could just play it on my PlayStation 4. And as for Xbox? HAHAHAHAHA 😂 "The world's most powerful console?" But yet games like Starfield, Redfall, Hellblade 2 and etc don't even run at 60FPS. That is absolutely pathetic and I'm not even much of an FPS type of person. I shouldn't really care if a game is 30 FPS or 60 FPS but if you're parading around that this console is the greatest console on God's green earth then why is it running these games in this quality? Plus I can cloud stream these games through my Xbox One, A ORIGINAL XBOX ONE BTW! Yes the quality is crap and the performance may be bad if you have horrible internet but I got pretty good internet from where I live and the experience I would say is okay-ish. And there hasn't been anything on Xbox that has jumped out and made me say "oh I want to go get me an Xbox series s or X console". Even the first party games Xbox are promoting, they're just going to come to GamePass and probably be available through cloud streaming so why get a next-gen system if I could just play them from the cloud? This generation to me feels very very weak and outside of money issues for me, there's just a lack of interest for me to even go out and get a next-gen system. I'm better off just saving up and getting a gaming rig and waiting for eventually ports. That's all I have to say, rant over. 😅

      @EdgerunnerGamingHD Před 9 dny +1

      And by the way as for the consoles that I do own I have a base PlayStation 4 and an original Xbox One. Sure the PlayStation 4 can only record in 720p quality (and it looks like crap when you upload it to CZcams because CZcams rendering and compression ugh) but I like my PlayStation 4. As for the Xbox one I can record in 1080P quality (as long as I'm connected to the internet) and a majority of games are in 900p which in my opinion is not too much of a difference to visualize from 1080p. And the games that are in 1080P quality in my opinion look amazing on the OG Xbox One. Also I kind of like Xbox's customer service better than PlayStation and I've never really had an issue with them. PlayStation customer service is literally the spawn of Satan and I've never had a good experience with them outside one time where my PlayStation account got hacked and luckily they got it back for me.

      Next gen in the future when graphics are at the true limit will most likely not be graphics but physics, immersive mechanics, and amazing stylized graphics. (I’m thinking passionate indie studios are going to get bigger and bigger until they’re at the level of a triple A studio, and make actual good games.) I mean, we’ve been seeing this type of stuff for awhile, just look at re-logic, they used to be a tiny indie dev team, now they own one of the most beloved and successful games of all time.

  • @shinnok5337
    @shinnok5337 Před 5 dny +2

    Not to mention most of the ps4/5 exclusives are being ported over to Steam now, so now there's even less of an incentive to own a console from Sony or Microsoft for that matter, especially considering the price increase of AAA games and lack of sales on Consoles compared to PC and that also goes for paying for online multiplayer and honestly, I think it's time that LSG publishers and devs like Bungie to quit being afraid of 'cheaters' on Linux when they have a massive problem with that on PC already and could easily implement their games to work with 'easy anti-cheat' if they really wanted to.
    Point is that there's a reason we're starting to see a rather big migration by console gamers who are moving to PC: Better deals, free multiplayer, mods and just more variety.

    Capcom has kind of became one of my favorite game companies this generation I’ve been playing a lot of monster Hunter resident evil and even some street fighter also from software with their souls games which I started getting into them around 2020 and even the new armored core 6
    Admit my experience is probably better then others considering I only started getting into gaming more seriously ever since I got my ps5
    Also, the best survivor game is Subnautica and I will die on that hil
    there’s a lot of franchises I’ve been getting into for the first time or visiting back so that other reason for I like this generation personally
    I have made a lot of friends as well like games from Helldivers 2 and in monster Hunter, I also made some Australian friends, which is kind of funny considering monster Hunter probably be their natural habitat if Australians were in the monster Hunter world

    There's a lot of reasons, but in my opinion, I feel like we've reached a "plateau" on graphics/quality for games. The top 5 most popular games (Minecraft, GTAV, Fortnite, Roblox, CoD Warzone) either originated on 7th gen consoles or could easily run on those consoles without problems. Consumers are comfortable with the games/consoles they currently own because the PS5/Series X aren't offering much on the table other than better graphics and SSD quality, which to some isn't enough to spent the extra $$$ to upgrade. And speaking of money, where are the price drops? Sony had a history of releasing "slim" consoles with a cheaper price tag, but the PS5 Slim is actually MORE expensive than the launch PS5. If there's any reason for PS4 owners not upgrading, that's definitely the one.

    The real simple answer is they probably started development for last gen then just put in on current gen also to make more. Video games take like 3-7 years to make and console generations are only like 7 years so you might see games launch like 6 years after after the next gen console in current consoles.
    Also its less risky and more profitable to sell a game to as many people as possible.
    Edit: also last gen also had cross gen games. I think as time goes on and the gen gap isn't as big. They can make some games for both.

    To put into perspective few years from now 9th gen consoles will be as old as 8th gen consoles when they began announcing SX & Ps5. I thought devs were gonna cook with Unreal Engine 5 after that spectacular preview of its capabilities and there's really only been a hand full games with UE5, they did some cool stuff with Graphics and special fx but the games are forgettable & lack luster then theres every other game that's either your run of the mill multiplayer/service or single player being held back by 8th gen tech.
    Im glad i got a pc in 2020 i can at least get more out of these games with graphics, performance & mods. I recently bought a console on impulse, and it's definitely nice to have its convienence but im never spending full price on them again when i can just upgrade my rig for way cheaper. Idc what next gen is packing if it's not followed by an onslaught of (good) games that take full advantage of its tech what the hell is the point?

    Games are not going to feel next gen anymore because we’ve basically hit a graphics plateau. Before there was always higher fidelity even between the ps3 and ps4 not so much between ps4 and ps5, sure we can get load times but it just does not feel like a huge leap. There are “next gen” games but they don’t feel that way and the next gen games we do get don’t look and run that well on the ps5 anyway dropping down to 720p like ff16, ff7, returnal, dragons dogma. You may not see it but at least when a game gets a dual release on ps4/ps5 you know it’ll run at 60fps for sure.

The market itself has changed, now more than even companies want long time profit so the live service has taken priority. The gamers have changed and a very devided and often times very selective with what they invest their money, with good reason. You have the increased focus on size and fidelity, making games to take sometimes a decade to be released. That also increases budget, which then increases the price tag, which makes consumers be more selective of what they buy, which then affecys sales, on and on. You also have the parasites, also known as Consulting Companies activelly blackmailing and destroying stuff. You have investors like Black Rock dictating how the market and the folk innit should think. You have other investors outsode of the gaming industry than just want a piece of the pie and expect crazy high numbers. You have companies lying to said investors. You have toxic consumers. There are so so so much that goes in to the machine that it's no wonder this generation has lost it's way and it will probably be remembered as one of tge worsts.

    I think the next gen is gonna need a whole wave of games to get everyone to commit. And ultimately, I think a new wave is inevitable. What we're seeing here, as you pointed out, is the problem of game development times being too long. And they're longer not least because developers are constantly playing catch-up to what they think it's going to be the marketplace when the game comes out. That's what ruined Suicide Squad. They made and remade the game over and over, trying to catch up with the latest trends and the latest platforms, instead of just coming up with a game idea and committing to it. Of course, this is of a piece with the way WB was handling everything, a business model I think we can safely say wasn't a formula for success.
    I think Insomniac has the right idea, if they're doing what I think they're doing. In Spider-Man, they developed not only a game engine, but a whole game template they could go back to over and over. The success of the Miles Morales game suggests they could do something similar with a Venom game, a Spider-Gwen game, even a Daredevil game, all in the same universe, with the same engine, reusing maps and mechanics. And each new spin-off game could build more and more depth into the system they already have, instead of having to start from scratch. Back in the day, Arkham Origins proved that what amounts to a game-sized game expansion, while not winning any awards, is perfectly a serviceable product, that's now remembered quite fondly. I don't see why every game needs to be developed for 10 years, only to be scrapped for the next one. Why not develop a game template like the Arkham games or Spider-Man, and just iterate off of it with one arm while developing the next level of game with the other. If the mechanics are truly worthwhile, they can carry more than just one game's worth of story.
    You succinctly point out all the problems of the current generation, but I think it's worth speculating what solutions might work. The bottom line is games need shorter development times. three years in, we're still waiting for the promise of the PS5 to be fulfilled. The only game that truly qualifies is Cyberpunk2077, if only because the disastrous PS4 edition proved it a next-gen product, whether they wanted it to be or not. Bear in mind, I lived through the 80s, so Cyberpunk's nostalgic little stroll down memory lane just seems tacky and out-dated to me. SO I'm certainly not biased toward the game, far from it. But purely from a tech standpoint, it seems like the first true current-gen game. But the problem with it is, it's still the kind of game we've been getting for over a decade, a first person action RPG. I think someone needs to create a new kind of game if the new generation is to have its own identity. But the problem with all the big AAA titles is that they don't take big swings. "The same, but more" isn't how you move forward. Games need to be inventive again, and that's all but impossible with 8 year development times.
    If they don't do something about that, people are eventually going to lose interest. The only games worth such a financial risk are games they know are popular. But who's to say what will be popular in two years, let alone 8? They're making the same games over and over, only adding more graphics detail to let you it's the latest thing. I think there are three Sekiro knock-offs coming in the next year or so, and half-dozen other "souls-likes" featuring faceless main characters fighting one gigantic boss after another. How long before that formula wears out? I'm guessing it'll be long before the last of those games is released. And by then, developers will have more in the pipeline, games doomed to be obsolete before they're even finished. This is the problem with the 8 year dev time, when combined with the determination to chase trends rather than innovate. The only question is, who'll learn this lesson, and who'll die off? And of course, what does the next generation of game look like? Cuz I ain't seen hide nor hair of it yet.

    That's just it though, gamers AREN'T demanding better games. They're just demanding flashier games and it costs so much to make stuff that flashy that the gameplay itself has to be dumbed down to try and appeal to the broadest audience possible. Nintendo has managed to keep budgets small enough on lower tech hardware to deliver better games that actually take better advantage of technology for the purpose of innovating gameplay, and the development time on most has been shorter. There is a lesson that can be learned from that.

    Colour. Stereo sound. Hardware sprites and blitters. 3D polygons. Networking topology (internet). Increased storage capacity and reduced cost. VR(?) These are the major pins in the map for gaming; the moments when you could delinate what was coming next. We haven't had one of those moments for a while. That's why I think the video games market has stalled. Games are just remasters or cheap pay-to-win copies of the last "great idea".

PC + Steam Deck + Switch = all the games I need on the low low. I get that not everyone is in this position, but with prebuild PCs and PCs becoming easier than ever to build and maintain, I feel like more people should take an hour out of their life to watch a youtube build guide on PC that goes over each component, what they do and shows you how to build a PC.
