    In this video, I take you step by step on how I prep and shoot a milk bath maternity session - from cleaning and setting up the bathroom to supply list, posing, lighting and cleanup after the shoot.
    A milk bathtub photo shoot is a great way to expand your portfolio and try something new - it doesn't have to be a maternity session, I've done it as a fashion /beauty shoot with a model, and as a baby milk bath photo shoot (confident sitters 6+ months old only).
    The whole shoot + prep takes me up to 3 hrs with around 45 min of actual shoot time and the rest to prep and clean.
    You will see exactly how my bathroom looks and why it works so well for bathtub photo shoots.
    I start with sanitizing the bathtub, then filling the tub and mixing in powdered milk until I get the murky water effect. In the video I show you a few tricks I've learned on how to cut the flowers so that they float better.
    You will also see me directing my maternity client into poses. There's only so much you can do in the tub, so I try to get more variety with different angles and overhead shots from a ladder.
    At the same time, a milk bath photo shoot is great for maternity sessions, because you can control how much you see above the surface, so it has a slimming effect.
    Finally, I explain how I educate my clients before the shoot, wha to bring to a milkbath session, how I started doing milk bathtub photography and why I offer it as an add-on to my packages.
    You will see me cleaning up after the milkbath photo shoot and I share a few tips to prevent the flowers getting into the drain.

      I used an off camera flash (remotely triggered), but you can use an on camera flash, just need to bounce it off of the ceiling or wall properly. Off camera flash will give you more consistent and predictable light though, as the flash stays in the same place, while you're moving around

Whatever you charge for your sessions, make sure to add another $100+ for the Milkbath setup (I spend $40-$70 on average on flowers+milk and make sure your time cleaning is covered). If you're not sure what to charge for your photography I'll have some new videos coming up this year where we'll talk about the business of photography, and I also have an online course that explains how to make sure you charge enough and set your prices right

    Hi Ksenia, great video. A quick question: how do you deal with moisture and lenses / camera bodies? Is there the risk of getting moisture inside the lens/camera ?? How to work around that? Are you keeping the water temperature to lukewarm rather than hot?

    • @kseniaprophoto
      @kseniaprophoto  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi! Unless you drop the camera in the water, there's no risk of getting moisture inside. Cameras are sealed, I'm not underwater, I side shower or in a steam room )) I make the water temperature warmer at first and then it gets a bit cooler, sometimes I'd add some more hot water if needed. But the shoot is over in appx 30 min, because there's only so many poses you can do in the tub. Just communicate with your client and keep checking on the water temperature

    I love how the pictures turned out and these tips are so useful! I only have one question; will the milk powder damage the drain? Because I am going to shoot my sister’s first pregnancy at my internship (hotel) and I don’t want to damage the bathtub. 😊

    • @kseniaprophoto
      @kseniaprophoto  Před 4 lety +1

      No I've done it a million times. The powder dissolves in the water, it's like baby formula basically, just make sure it's dissolved and doesn't form any clusters. If you use flowers make sure to take them out before draining the water or use a strainer

    This was so beautiful. I am learning so much about posing and techniques. I do have one question. I notice your screen is always lit up. Do you shoot in live view? Once again amazing information and all your tips are wonderful. I also love your tips on how to cut the flowers.❤

      Thank you ❤️ so I don't do children photography, unless it's a part of a family photo shoot, or it's close friends or very good clients asking me. I've done one milkbath session with a 6 months old just recently, but we used a small baby tub. I'll see if I can make a tutorial in the next couple months. Thank you for watching!

      I used the same one, it's milk. So unless they are allergic to lactose, it should be safe. I've also used my leftover stash of baby formula 🤣 same effect )

    I am also a photographer and I am about to make this type of photoshoot for the first time, so this has been a relief :D thank you. • @kseniaprophoto
      @kseniaprophoto  Před 4 lety +1

      Sure thing! Just comfortable enough, you can always add hot water later if it gets cool. Talk to the model and ask if she is comfortable. Good luck!
