Yule Lakes Crested Butte Colorado Day Hike

  • Yule Lakes is a moderate day hike to a very quiet place just north of Crested Butte.
    The hike starts like many others on an old road. In places this road becomes pretty skinny with a little exposure. Once at the pass the road turns into a trail. Just before you get to the lake the trail becomes more of a route, in some places disappearing altogether. Round trip is about eight miles.
    I included maps with brief descriptions in the video.
    Of course the best time for any walk is in July when the wild flowers fill the basins with an array of color.
    This hike is all above tree line so it is important to watch the weather closely.

    Great video! Attempted this hike last weekend, was going to camp up by the lake. Had to turn around after a mile because I was not comfortable with my 40lb pack walking on the washed out trail, some parts only big enough for 1 foot! I guess it's gotten worse over the past 4 years. At least I got to see the lake in your video!

      Hi Christina. Thanks for watching. I am with you on that exposure. It was a little spicey when we did it too. Better safe than sorry. Safe travel.

    Outstanding video!!!! I go up to the Irwin townsite quite a bit; and am by Marble almost as much. Looks like I need to bracket myself down to this location! Safe travels!

    I thought how good is this going to be with no old ruins. Then you stepped up to the plate and hit the game winning grand slam with this video. Well done.

    Thanks for including this hike (local for us) as I was wondering about the exposure in those slide areas for this year.

    Hi Mr. Dana,
    Great video, everything look amazing.
    Quick question, I’m planning to hike from CB (trailhead) to Aspen, I have read it take around 8hours so I believe is impossible to do round trip in the same day, based in this, is there any way to go back (transportation) to CB by the end of the day?
    Thanks in advance for your comments.
    Ray

      Hi Ray. I have heard they run a shuttle. I don't know where to find out but it does exist. Hope that helps.

    What a beautiful hike Dana...thanks for posting this! I love the 3D look you have for some of the wildflowers. I assume you are using motion video you mention in your description? I tried the link, but maybe the link is not working anymore? Anyway - that effect is very cool. Thanks for sharing!

    • @danahollister4084
      @danahollister4084  Před 6 lety

      Thank you. I think it is called the still photo 3D effect. My approach is to make everything move. I spend a day on photos, maybe 4 or 5 still shots. I cut the flower out and then fill in the background. In the video software I move the background in or out and maybe left or right. The flower is is on top of that layer and moved the same way, usually opposite of the background. It makes it look like a 2D or 3D shot. Lots of work but I like it. Glad you noticed! In the description, I think you mentioned, is for background video. The last shot where I have the links for other videos is one of them. I don't use them often. Appreciate the note! D

    My kind of hike. You did a great job with the video and the photos of wildflowers..... superb! I wonder if there's any glaciers in Colorado? Thank's 🙂

    • @danahollister4084
      @danahollister4084  Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you. I think the answer to your question is 14 glaciers in Colorado.

    • @ingvarellingsen7270
      @ingvarellingsen7270 Před 6 lety +1

      Oh, that's quite many. I love visiting glaciers. They are so special and gives me peace of mind. And a useful perspective on earth and life in general. Give me a hint if you have visited any of those glaciers.☺️
