A very capable off road vehicle. I would like to know the real world fuel economy when driving it in Hybrid Mode for a couple of days. Most of us will spend more then 80% of our time on asphalt so this full hybrid MPG figure would be critical when deciding to purchase.
Yep, low geared 4cylinder pickups are notoriously underpowered with abysmal fuel economy. Why not dedicate the motor to electric generation and heat/AC?
I just had the pleasure of drving one of these home DEC 15 2023 so almost a week ago. I haven't charged it once I have about 75 miles left until I have to re-fuel. Haven't checked my official fuel MPG but I wasn't expecting great fuel economy. And I also knew prior to leasing the vehicle that I would likely never charge it (I live in a condo with shared parking). But it's nice knowing that I CAN charge it and that whenever/whereever I charge (no matter how far or near an accessible charging point) it's like a 25-mile "bonus." As you pointed out: you can "save" (i.e. delay) the electric miles and employ them at the time of your choosing. But if you're looking for optimal fuel economy the best advice I can offer is to charge it daily especially if your round-trip commute is 25 miles or less. But otherwise I expect between 21-26 MPG which I think is AWESOME for a 375 HP 470 lb.-ft. torque engine. It is very fast and I am loving the looks of surprise that I get from people in traffic when I open it up and they see that this vehicle may LOOK like a normal SUV but it seems to be packing something special under the hood!! 😂😂🙏🙏🚜🚜
This has far better chops off-road than the mall crawlers currently in Land Rover's lineup, except maybe the unicorn 4-cylinder Discovery that didn't last 2 months of TFL ownership. The secret sauce: rims small enough they can mount off-road tires with actual measurable amounts of sidewall, so it actually works off-road. There's nothing else that can do as many things as well as the Grand Cherokee, and the price is commensurate with that capability. That said, I'm OK with my decision last year to pick up a '18 GC with 30,000 on the clock, just as the used car market started to go nuts. The WL is better for sure, but not double-the-price better.
Would rather have the 3L TT for that price. Had a fully loaded trailhawk with a V8 last year and sticker was $56 now $70? Don't think it is worth the price myself
We have a 2021 WK2, and find that it does everything we ask it to, but it it IS wide enough to have its sides scraped on the Sierra Mtn roads we go on, which really makes for touchy off roading. Smooth ride on road and enough off road chops for us. After all, they are a compromise 4wd. We got the Overland with the so called Trailhawk off road package. We have the Gobi roof rack and the Chief rock rails. With the Gobi elevation cross bars we can get both kayaks in place with no problem.
Check your window sticker for Offroad Adventure II If so, yours should be equipped with the Quadra-Drive-II system and skid plates over the entire underside.
I'm in the pinebarrans in NJ , we don't have rock crawling but we do have big mud holes and swamp land . GC is a big jeep so your right about pine stripes down the side . I keep a MK patty riot for small trails, and use my GC trail hawk for mudding . Cherokee kl and renegade are also good for small tight trails that would tear up the sides of your GC✌🦆
I love the idea of an electric GC, and a plug in hybrid is a nice compromise, but 25 miles of electric range at that price is like they weren't even trying. There's plenty of space for a larger battery, and the tech is available to make it happen.
So the European versions typically get higher ranges with the same battery because batteries are required to have a 10 year warranty in USA, versus 5 year warranty in EU. So it's about the amount of buffer that is required to maintain 25mi for about 8 years.
Talk about taking a huge discount. I purchased a 2013 GC summit loaded, using my friends and family discount. Took off 9500 of the price costing 42k out the door. Just wait… I leased it for three years knowing I was going to buy it. After three years, it’s now a used vehicle and I had the depreciation off the used price on top of that as I was still the original owner. Total paid was 33k for 56k GC. Lol. Your welcome.
I have a 2021 trail hawk with the HEMI and I get 22MPG on the highway. Not sure what this 70K hybrid version buys me except an extra 20grand out of my pocket.
Let me join in on the price bashing here, It’s not just this Jeep it’s everything coming out these days… I think we all just need a couple years to adjust to the new normal and that is that it now takes $60-90k to get into the best new toys coming out.. I personally will stick to my wait few years and go with depreciated new/used or take the plunge into new but after some bugs have been worked out. I just don’t have time to be in the shop or broken down periodically helping them find all the issues, even if it’s under warranty.

The Jeep Laredo is now in the mid to upper 40s with moderate options-lol. Wranglers can be almost 70k with good options, not talking about the SRT ones.

Once over, does the power reduces to 270 hp in Gas only mode?
Yeah I have a 2020 GC trail hawk with the 5.7 get 21-22 mpg on hi way and pull a camper and horse trailer also have off road animal winch and rock siders as well as front steel and rear bumpers .I think I will buy a crate motor for when its needed and stay with my 2020 that cost 43k .
he ends up getting 23.2 mpg overall on that short 98 mile trip, well I have a 2018 grand Cherokee with the 5.7 liter Hemi and on the highway on a long trip at 70 to 75 mph I get between 20 to 22 mpg I live in the hills of eastern Kentucky so we have a lot of ups and downs but if I'm on flat roads it's closer to 22. Now stop and go in the city or something is another story if you run it hard it can drink the gas but there still isn't any substitution for a V8

Prices are MUCH higher than just four years ago. My '18 Trailhawk started at $43,295. This new Trailhawk is $54,630! It's over $11,000 more now! New platform, more refined, but practically, there's not a lot of difference in features. And the drivetrain is carry-over! Add the V8 and lux group and you're up to $60K for TH. Plus, in '18 they didn't charge for paint ($400 now), and destination charge was $1100, now an outrageous $1800! Unreasonable gouging for what cannot be described as Toyota levels of quality. No thanks.
@@gogofastful Uh, no. I'm really tired of the inflation excuse. It's much more than that. Inflation over the past four years would put the price of the '22 Trailhawk about $3200 more. But, as I said, it's over $11,000 more! The fact is Jeep is trying to move upscale with GC, leaving the lousy FWD-based Jeeps for the low end. Unfortunately, Jeep doesn't offer the kind of quality I'd pay that much for. What a shame.
Own nothing but jeeps since 1986 , been through many models and never a issue with any of them. Jeeps are not for everyone they are different breed, Toyota jap vehicles break down also and got its ass kicked in ww2 . GC gives you everything and a 6.4 sits nicely under the hood where Toyota is weak . Only in a jeep ✌
Air suspension and 4 wheel independent suspension was a good call. I wish we'd see more air suspensions on cheaper crossovers. It'd be nice to get an extra few inches when going under 25mph.
23-24 highway mpg is not great for a hybrid. Quite frankly, it isn't great for a turbo 2.0L I4. And this is a ridiculous amount of money. You can get a trailhawk with the V8 hemi in it for less, and I would much rather have that.
My guy, it's a midsize SUV not a Prius. The hybrid part of the system does next to nothing on the highway. Highway MPG is 60% aerodynamics, 20% engine efficiency, and 20% tire tread pattern and size.
@@psychologicaltirefire8190 I have a JL unlimited Wrangler with the 3.6l V6 pentastar and I average almost that on the highway. This Grand Cherokee is way more aerodynamic than my Wrangler, and the engine is new whereas the pentastar has been around for well over a decade. So this Grand Cherokee with a smaller, newer, theoretically more efficient engine, is getting only slightly better mileage than my much less aerodynamic Wrangler.
I would still prefer my 98 ZJ Limited 5.2 V8 that was my daily driver and and weekend fun in the Arizona desert. Fastest I ever got it was 129mph off-road! Tons of fun after a few modifications and good tires it also had a beautiful sound after I switched the exhaust to a thrush high flow hooked to a Cherry Bomb!
Needs to double the range and be cheaper. I looked it up the other day and 85% of Americans have a commute of 50 miles or less (total). So if you get it to where it gives you 50 miles of all electric, the average American could go to work and back 5 days a week and never use a drop of gas. And since it's got a gas engine as back up, the range is there for road trips, even if the extra weight gives you comparatively less highway MPG than an ICE engine. The biggest problem is price. For $70k, you can get a fully loaded Jeep Rubicon or Gladiator. Or a base Wrangler Sport S with $25k in add ons. Make this car $50k and we'll talk. But, that's a criticism of every electric vehicle right now - they're simply too expensive for the average American. A base Tesla Model 3 is nearly $50k after delivery and before potential tax incentives. For a car that would compete with a $25k Ford Fusion if it wasn't all electric. Inflation is 9%. Gas is $4/gallon. Groceries are more expensive than ever. Most people won't choose to spend an extra $20k on an electric vehicle. $20k buys a lot of gas, even at $4/gal.
Keep in mind there is a $7500 federal tax credit, possibly some more from your state. With that in mind, and considering today's car prices, I would be very tempted by this if I needed to replace my Outback right now.
$4 a Gallon? ha ha ha ha ha I'm laughing so hard when Gas is $5.82 USD a Gallon here in Vancouver, BC, Canada today and some days it even goes up past $7.00 USD per gallon and we consider this NORMAL for this area! You guys have REALLY cheap gas! You want expensive? Try gallon of milk for 4 bucks! Butter is over 5 bucks a pound. Bread is $3 to $6 per loaf. You guys down there have it CHEAP and GOOD in the U.S. !!! V

25 miles electric range then over 3 hr recharge… doesn’t impress me! Then 23 mpg highway? My 2018 GC limited got 27 hwy before the lift, then 24mpg with a 2-1/2” lift and 285’s. Keep trying Jeep! By the way, wanted the Trailhawk for the better 4x4 system but didn’t like how rigid it rode at full height. The limited with no air suspension allowed me to do the lift and run the 285’s. Upgraded shock package made it ride like a dream and all for a lot less than $62k. The Quad trac II wasn’t as good as the Trailhawk but I really don’t rock crawl, just Florida/Alabama hunting clubs.
Not sure why he said 3.5 hrs to charge. I have a wrangler rubicon 4xe with the same sized battery and charging at same max rate takes 2.25 hrs from fully depleted (and sometimes less).
@@byronlarson5534 PHEV’s Achilles heal is highway. They do awesome in town and on trails (anywhere with a lot of start/stop), but the extra battery weight makes them get slightly worse than pure gas engines on the highway after the plug-in part of the battery is depleted.
If the electric motor doesn't have the power to maintain a consistent speed, or you're constantly stomping the pedal down, it will cancel all electric mode and put you in hybrid, automatically. It happens to me in my Wrangler 4xe at highway speeds with lots of hills or headwind.
I think I would be ok with just getting this vehicle a yr old at about $20k less. Just looking over some now and thats what I see with still good low milage. This is my pick, I mean you are still paying about $1k payment.
i know this has been a couple of years but does anyone know if a towing break controller can be added to the 4xe. I'm seeing mixed comments online about this due to the regen capability. Most are saying yes but some are saying this is not possible? However, I have been able to find the break controller outlet under the dash so its definitely there.
Seeing as you can get a HD truck, or a wrangler 392 for the same price, or that this is significantly more than a Ram Rebel, forget that. It’s priced almost $20k more than it should be for what it is. If that Trailhawk was priced the same as a wrangler rubicon ($45-49k) I’d jump on it in a heartbeat
Real world mpg will vary wildly, because it all depends on how far you live from work. If you live 15 miles from work, you'll only have to go about 5 miles on gas, the other 25 will be all electric. So even at 20 mpg, you'll only burn 1.25 gallons a week on your commute. But if you live 30 miles from work, now you're burning 2.5 gallons a DAY. So the usability of the electric function goes away down.
Surprised he didn’t say anything about it but I believe this is eligible for the 7500 federal tax credit. I got mine on my Wrangler Rubicon 4xe and it made it cheaper than the equivalent gas Rubicon at the time.
Yikes! You can buy a fully loaded Telluride or Palisade for around $55K. Yes, not as off road capable but who is going to take their $70K Grand wheeling?

Let's be real here if you want to do rock crawling get a wrangler not this but if you want to do some offroading and be more capable then a standard crossover then this is what you need. But like everyone else is saying not for that price

most people aren't going to take a GC rock climbing. It would more realistic to show how over 80% of people would use this vehicle. Wrangler is for rock climbing not GC. 🙄
Great job Andre, but at 22mpg & $ 60,000 that's a no thanks plus with him saying that the drive shaft going through the oil pan that's major trouble waiting to happen. But that's why I like watching TFL they show us pretty much everything. And I don't like where all new cars are going with all the electronics and electric stuff. If you want long jevity keep it simple it's alot less stuff to go wrong.
I wanna see TFL buy and modify the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer Long-Edition (the one with the extra foot of length and the super-duper LUX and Towing packages) with a 4-to-6 inch lift and 37 inch tires (Goodyear M/T Territories/Duratracs or Nitto EXO Grapplers) and see how it performs OFF-ROAD in 4x4 modes! Now THAT would be an awesome off-road test! V
Really shows a lack of forethought by whatever foreign company owns jeep these days (yes. I know it’s stelantis). The price could possibly be rationalized if the range and/or mpg was impressive whatsoever, but it’s not. At all.

Jason you're right except for the Range Rover dig. While I would prefer a Jeep GC over the RR line up, RR is seriously capable.

Yep. That’s what we ordered. My wife preferred the seats and lack of hood decal on the Overland, so that’s what we got.

I'm in a few Jeep groups. The people with 4×E Wranglers have done hundreds of miles just in electric mode without needing to run the engine.

he ends up getting 23.2 mpg overall on that short 98 mile trip, well I have a 2018 grand Cherokee with the 5.7 liter Hemi and on the highway on a long trip at 70 to 75 mph I get between 20 to 22 mpg I live in the hills of eastern Kentucky so we have a lot of ups and downs but if I'm on flat roads it's closer to 22. Now stop and go in the city or something is another story if you run it hard it can drink the gas but there still isn't any substitution for a V8
Maybe I'm out of touch but who are all these people willing to shell out $70k+ for vehicles? Seems like $50k is the new $30k.

A decent spec f-150 is gonna be about 50k also. Pickups prices are the perfect gauge to see how overpriced everything is now.

Prices are MUCH higher than just four years ago. My '18 Trailhawk started at $43,295. This new Trailhawk is $54,630! It's over $11,000 more now! New platform, more refined, but practically, there's not a lot of difference in features. And the drivetrain is carry-over! Add the V8 and lux group and you're up to $60K for TH.
Plus, in '18 they didn't charge for paint ($400 now), and destination charge was $1100, now an outrageous $1800!
Unreasonable gouging for what cannot be described as Toyota levels of quality. No thanks.

The fact is Jeep is trying to move upscale with GC, leaving the lousy FWD-based Jeeps for the low end.
Unfortunately, Jeep doesn't offer the kind of quality I'd pay that much for. What a shame.
Own nothing but jeeps since 1986 , been through many models and never a issue with any of them. Jeeps are not for everyone they are different breed, Toyota jap vehicles break down also and got its ass kicked in ww2 . GC gives you everything and a 6.4 sits nicely under the hood where Toyota is weak . Only in a jeep ✌
Air suspension and 4 wheel independent suspension was a good call. I wish we'd see more air suspensions on cheaper crossovers. It'd be nice to get an extra few inches when going under 25mph.
I thought the ground clearance was 11.3 inch ?. Anyway, the articulation has definitely improved from last generation.

23-24 highway mpg is not great for a hybrid. Quite frankly, it isn't great for a turbo 2.0L I4. And this is a ridiculous amount of money. You can get a trailhawk with the V8 hemi in it for less, and I would much rather have that.

My guy, it's a midsize SUV not a Prius. The hybrid part of the system does next to nothing on the highway. Highway MPG is 60% aerodynamics, 20% engine efficiency, and 20% tire tread pattern and size.
Yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense. My 2015 Laredo V6 gets 23-24mpg doing 65 on the highway.
@@psychologicaltirefire8190 I have a JL unlimited Wrangler with the 3.6l V6 pentastar and I average almost that on the highway. This Grand Cherokee is way more aerodynamic than my Wrangler, and the engine is new whereas the pentastar has been around for well over a decade. So this Grand Cherokee with a smaller, newer, theoretically more efficient engine, is getting only slightly better mileage than my much less aerodynamic Wrangler.
If you are just looking at highway mpg than you have no idia what a hybrid plug in is built for.

I would still prefer my 98 ZJ Limited 5.2 V8 that was my daily driver and and weekend fun in the Arizona desert. Fastest I ever got it was 129mph off-road! Tons of fun after a few modifications and good tires it also had a beautiful sound after I switched the exhaust to a thrush high flow hooked to a Cherry Bomb!
Nice option for a lease but it's a hard sell given that pure electric range will be increasing drastically in the coming years.
How do you know this? Tesla has been out for 8 years or so now and their electric range has only increased by maybe 10-20%.

Needs to double the range and be cheaper. I looked it up the other day and 85% of Americans have a commute of 50 miles or less (total). So if you get it to where it gives you 50 miles of all electric, the average American could go to work and back 5 days a week and never use a drop of gas. And since it's got a gas engine as back up, the range is there for road trips, even if the extra weight gives you comparatively less highway MPG than an ICE engine.
The biggest problem is price. For $70k, you can get a fully loaded Jeep Rubicon or Gladiator. Or a base Wrangler Sport S with $25k in add ons. Make this car $50k and we'll talk. But, that's a criticism of every electric vehicle right now - they're simply too expensive for the average American. A base Tesla Model 3 is nearly $50k after delivery and before potential tax incentives. For a car that would compete with a $25k Ford Fusion if it wasn't all electric. Inflation is 9%. Gas is $4/gallon. Groceries are more expensive than ever. Most people won't choose to spend an extra $20k on an electric vehicle. $20k buys a lot of gas, even at $4/gal.
Keep in mind there is a $7500 federal tax credit, possibly some more from your state. With that in mind, and considering today's car prices, I would be very tempted by this if I needed to replace my Outback right now.
$4 a Gallon? ha ha ha ha ha I'm laughing so hard when Gas is $5.82 USD a Gallon here in Vancouver, BC, Canada today and some days it even goes up past $7.00 USD per gallon and we consider this NORMAL for this area! You guys have REALLY cheap gas! You want expensive? Try gallon of milk for 4 bucks! Butter is over 5 bucks a pound. Bread is $3 to $6 per loaf. You guys down there have it CHEAP and GOOD in the U.S. !!!

25 miles electric range then over 3 hr recharge… doesn’t impress me! Then 23 mpg highway? My 2018 GC limited got 27 hwy before the lift, then 24mpg with a 2-1/2” lift and 285’s. Keep trying Jeep!
By the way, wanted the Trailhawk for the better 4x4 system but didn’t like how rigid it rode at full height. The limited with no air suspension allowed me to do the lift and run the 285’s. Upgraded shock package made it ride like a dream and all for a lot less than $62k. The Quad trac II wasn’t as good as the Trailhawk but I really don’t rock crawl, just Florida/Alabama hunting clubs.
Not sure why he said 3.5 hrs to charge. I have a wrangler rubicon 4xe with the same sized battery and charging at same max rate takes 2.25 hrs from fully depleted (and sometimes less).
@@byronlarson5534 PHEV’s Achilles heal is highway. They do awesome in town and on trails (anywhere with a lot of start/stop), but the extra battery weight makes them get slightly worse than pure gas engines on the highway after the plug-in part of the battery is depleted.
If the electric motor doesn't have the power to maintain a consistent speed, or you're constantly stomping the pedal down, it will cancel all electric mode and put you in hybrid, automatically. It happens to me in my Wrangler 4xe at highway speeds with lots of hills or headwind.
Frankly, you’re likely better off getting a Grand Cherokee with the V6. It’ll get 25 mpg hwy for the 4X4 model

i know this has been a couple of years but does anyone know if a towing break controller can be added to the 4xe. I'm seeing mixed comments online about this due to the regen capability. Most are saying yes but some are saying this is not possible? However, I have been able to find the break controller outlet under the dash so its definitely there.

Seeing as you can get a HD truck, or a wrangler 392 for the same price, or that this is significantly more than a Ram Rebel, forget that. It’s priced almost $20k more than it should be for what it is. If that Trailhawk was priced the same as a wrangler rubicon ($45-49k) I’d jump on it in a heartbeat

Real world mpg will vary wildly, because it all depends on how far you live from work. If you live 15 miles from work, you'll only have to go about 5 miles on gas, the other 25 will be all electric. So even at 20 mpg, you'll only burn 1.25 gallons a week on your commute. But if you live 30 miles from work, now you're burning 2.5 gallons a DAY. So the usability of the electric function goes away down.
Surprised he didn’t say anything about it but I believe this is eligible for the 7500 federal tax credit. I got mine on my Wrangler Rubicon 4xe and it made it cheaper than the equivalent gas Rubicon at the time.

Great job Andre, but at 22mpg & $ 60,000 that's a no thanks plus with him saying that the drive shaft going through the oil pan that's major trouble waiting to happen. But that's why I like watching TFL they show us pretty much everything.
And I don't like where all new cars are going with all the electronics and electric stuff. If you want long jevity keep it simple it's alot less stuff to go wrong.
I wanna see TFL buy and modify the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer Long-Edition (the one with the extra foot of length and the super-duper LUX and Towing packages) with a 4-to-6 inch lift and 37 inch tires (Goodyear M/T Territories/Duratracs or Nitto EXO Grapplers) and see how it performs OFF-ROAD in 4x4 modes!

You must have been driving fast. My 2018 with the 3.6 stop start gets 27 mpg at 70 with no stops. for 70 grand i'll pass.
