  • When I ask students what they think of Sigmund Freud’s ideas they typically respond with "He’s just weird!" But rather than dismiss the theory out of hand, the challenge is to use your psychological knowledge to critically analyse and explain your objections, beyond statements such as ‘he was on cocaine’! So how do you evaluate the Psychodynamic Approach?

Heyy i wrote this PEEL evaluation can check it please?
Point - psychodynamic approach is pessimistic compared with humanistic approach
This meant, is focused on what could go wrong as such fixation of psychosexual stages could lead to problems as an adult compared with humanistic approach which looks at personal growth and achieving to full potential.
This is weakness as psychodynamic approach doesn’t focus on positive elements like humanistic approach which place attention on free will and individual growth.

Hey Fatima. Nice effort with the PEEL paragraph. Would suggest altering the middle part: I've improved it slightly below which I hope helps. I would unpack why the psy.dyn approach is pessimistic first, and then make the comparison separately.
POINT: The psychodynamic approach ca be criticised for being pessimistic.
EXPLAIN: This is because it focuses on what could have gone wrong in the past such as fixation during one of the psychosexual stages which lead to problems as an adult. This negative view of human behaviour contrasts with the humanistic approach which looks at personal growth, achieving our full potential and free will.
LINK: Therefore, it could be argued that the psychodynamic approach is limited in its explanation because it only focuses on negative aspects and fails to consider the positive elements like the humanistic approach.
      Hope that helps.
