    What a beautiful boat. Catalina has quickly become my favorite name. Very easy watching and listening walk through.

    Love how Catalina thinks of the little things, like sealing the edges of woodwork. Probably one of the best functional 40' boats out there for coastal/blue water sailing - certainly better quality than a Bene or Jeanneau. Kudos.

    Excellent use of space and beautiful finishing down below. Really efficiently configured for a 42 footer. Well presented by Mr. Massey too. Nice to see an American boat made to such high standards!

      Around 17:24 I believe the table on the starboard side of the salon can be configured as the nav station. He mentions that there were various options for that space that can be selected by the owner. I appears in this video, that the top of that table has a piano hinge closest to the bulkhead, which indicates the top lifts up with storage for charts, manuals, etc. underneath. There is also plenty of space in the storage compartments on the bulkhead to mount radios and other navigational equipment.

    I love Catalina but I don't understand why they made the 425 when they have the 445. Basically the same boat but 2 feet smaller. Why not just go for the 445?

    • @jamiemcneil9462
      @jamiemcneil9462 Před 3 lety +8

      This boat, the 425, is actually a bit bigger than the 445. The 445 has a different hull, it is considerably thicker than the hull on the 425. The 445 is made for those who want to sail off shore in their Catalina, while the 425 is for coastal use and as such is a better light air sailor than the 445 because it is much lighter. You can find the specs on the Catalina web site, the model names are confusing, I understand why you thought the 445 was a 44 foot boat, but it isn't.

      Or, as I am thinking, as a 71-year-old retiree, sell the house and move aboard permanently. Preferably in Rota, Spain. Don't know if the Catalinas have found their way over the big pond.

      They also serve as an excellent faraday cage for handheld gps, vhf radio, etc. during electrical storms so you have something to use as a backup if you take a direct hit and the primary electronics become inoperable… just sayin.

      Thank you for watching the 425 video. The Catalina 425 is set up with an expansive access to the engine, genset, water heater, battery charger, stuffing box and sea cocks for engine and genset, and steering system all for the port side flex stateroom. The filters locker and easy access to the engine oil dip stick are on the starboard side. The access to all those items are the best I think I have ever seen in a 40+ sailing yacht. Please note that the bimini/Dodger we have engineered is ideal for southern waters. A buyer can spec as much or as little in the way of canvas as they wish. Hope that answers some of your concerns. If you would like more information on the 425 or any of the Catalina yachts feel free to contact me at edwardm@masseyyacht.com. Regards, Ed Massey

    Apparently the Catalina's are not for blue water. It looks like just a costal cruiser with the helm all the way aft. A better blue water would have the helm forward and protected. it's a much rougher ride all the way aft. I wouldn't want to be at the helm in bad weather and rough sea's.
