  • In Episode 2 of Getting Into RACING For LESS Than 10K, we address the lack of support in my current seat by pouring a custom BSCI Foam Seat Insert using a kit from HMS Motorsport. BIG THANKS to my mom helping out to pour the seat. This is definitely a two person job and she was extremely helpful despite the extremely hot conditions outside that particular day! You’ve got to let your Mom drive this machine. Ten thousand thumbs up to your Mom for helping out.

      Yeah I really appreciate all the help she gave me then. Half the fun is spending time in the garage with people you want to be around.

    For the future, I made a similar fitted seat insert for my laydown kart. I bought the 2 part chems from a marine supply for $25 and glued together plastic trash bags. Spray glue held everything in place. I added the foam padding after.

    Few tips on the future. Tape some aluminum in the sides to prevent it going around the bars. Also double check with a stick between the front and rear roll hoops that you’re low enough in the car with a helmet on.

      Great tip regarding the aluminum! I hadn't thought of that. I did a broomstick test off camera but I'll be sure to double check again to be sure

      @@jcolowracing987 haha I’ve seen a few of those seats done over the years! I use my fiberglass insert but the one in my car is a little more molded.

    • @jcolowracing987
      @jcolowracing987  Před 2 lety

      @@enjoiskatin15 yeah my fiberglass may have worked out if I was a bit shorter but the body position just did not work for me. I may ultimately need to repour again though because I'll need a new fuel cell and I won't be able to get one of the same size so the whole cockpit area may need to be rethought

      @@jcolowracing987 there are several places that build to your dimensions. Try fuel safe first. There’s a lot of D13s out there I wouldn’t be surprised they have the dimensions on file.

      I will definitely reach out to fuel safe and see what they can do. I got a quote for a direct replacement from ATL and it was a bit out of my price range. Hoping I might find something off the shelf that can keep costs down.

    Did sitting without a helmet have any effects on your final position vs having poured the foam with a helmet on?

    What size of seat kit did you buy? Having a hard time figuring if I need a large or X-large kit.

      I called HMS and they recommended Medium which turned out to be more than enough
