He once said on an interview that his songs are "annoyingly wordy" and was amazed fans know every word at his concerts. It's because every word is so good.
It's also because his diction is so damn good. You can understand every single word. Even I, as someone who only learned English as his second language in his teens, has no problem at all parsing and understanding everything.
@@Animagladius which is super interesting because Noah has a lisp. It's gotten more subtle over his professional career, but I still catch it occasionally. But yes, his diction is remarkable. It's got a be a lot of work to sing the words that clearly.
Honestly I don't think his songs are annoyingly wordy. I prefer it as he can fit so much storytelling into a song. Plus his lyricism is so good, there's so many good lines and symbolism and clever wordplay. I wonder if he was into rap at any point because its somewhat got that kind of quality to it
You got the whole Stick Season term, but I’ll add this anyway.
Stick season is the time between all the leaves falling and the first snowfall. It represents the transitional period he’s feeling. From the warmth of a good relationship to the bitter-cold bite of loneliness.
Well touché to you, because I was thinking he was upset at the end of golf season😅
Stick season is a synonym for depression
The lyrics "so I thought that if I had piled something good on all my bad that I could cancel out the darkness I inherited from Dad" hit me so fucking hard in the gut the first time I heard this song. Noah Kahan's lyricism is so freaking amazing to me.
His lyricism is so offensive in the best way😭
Orange Juice or Call Your Mom are two great songs of his that have potent messages
Ya what this guy said
Don’t forget you’re gonna go far and dial drunk
@@austinewing397so the whole album lol. It’s all good😂
Truth
I second Call your mom !!
Noah kahan the goat. He's currently collecting features from a lot of big artists. Dude deserves the praises.
Vermonter here and I can fully confirm that stick season is a well known saying here. Everyone here knows what he’s talking about. It’s the shoulder season between fall and winter.
The entire deluxe album is worth a listen. A few of my favorites are Still, The View Between Villages, She Calls Me Back, Your Needs, My Needs, and Dial Drunk.
Your Needs, my needs is so under appreciated tbh
She Calls Me Back ft. Kacey Musgraves is a masterpiece
“And I’ll dream each night if some version of you that I may not have but I did not loose” that hits so hard! 💔
The thing that really stands out to me is how incredible his lyrics are. Every song of his hits home, even if you can’t necessarily empathize with the subject. He has this way of perfectly capturing the most complex feelings in the most simple lyrics and the tone of his music, not to mention the way he works rhyme and rhythms into his words. It’s just amazing to me.
All of this 👆🏽
I love that he has a sense of objectivity in his lyrics. He of course writes from his perspective, but also has a self deprecating style that makes it clear he’s aware of his own shortcomings. I love love love Dial Drunk, but not because I can relate to him, but because my ex is an alcoholic and I can relate so much to the person he calls and the way he talks to her.
Dial Drunk for sure!!!! They way he adds in what the cops said to him. Amazing.
"Your needs, my needs" is one of my favorits of him.
The term ‘Stick Season’ was an old term in Vermont. I have lived here for many years and I have never heard it used.
But to my understanding it means the time between Christmas and spring where it’s just muddy and crappy and there’s no snow, but it’s cold.
First time hearing this song brought me to tears.
I think his EP ‘busy head’ is chalk full of amazing songs. A lot of people are just now getting to know him through stick season and this album. Check out the EP… ‘false confidence’ ‘save me’ etc
“Dream each night of some version of you that I might not have but I did not lose” just gets me right in the feels
So agreed - I think it is the way that he sings it that just stays with you...
You got it spot on man. Noah Kahan said in an interview that in Vermont they refer to the season when there's no more leaf's as stick season. U caught that quick I'm surprised haha
This dude snuck his whole album into my playlist. I'd love to see more reactions from this project Fisch! keep up the good work!
Hes that dude. Greatest songwriter since paul! Love him!
I love how "the darkness I inherited from dad" is resonating with only those that can truly understand it.
I inherited a big part of my ASPD from my dad alongside with uncontrollable anger issues. My dad was the most aggressive person Ive ever known and while I tried my best to not be like him, I did get exactly like him.
I have myself under control mostly, but theres times every now and again where Im very close to beating people to death. In that situation its not me anymore and I love the adrenaline but right after I hate myself for even liking it in my rage I am not at fault for.
So many good ones by Noah that I’d love to see you react to. Growing Sideways,Orange Juice, Homesick, Dial Drunk, She Calls Me Back, All My Love, Come Over, Northern Attitude. Now that I list it off, basically the entire Stick Season album is great!
His old stuff is great too, love to see someone react to: Carlo’s song, part of me, glue myself shut, troubled mind, false confidence or godlight!
@@dionpolfliet7309 thanks for the recommendations! I’m a relatively new fan, and haven’t gotten the chance to dig deep yet.
dial drunk is a damn good song, especially with posty. such beautiful voices
Maine would be good too. God I love that song. the humming at the beginning just gets me in some kind of mood
Echoing everyone else here... that entire album is worth reacting to!! Absolutely incredible and saturated with incredible lyricism (by him). Love this!
Never heard of him until he did the song "Sarah's Place" with Zach Bryan, which was amazing. I love how it feels finding a new artist that has such amazing talent!
This song is an absolute masterpiece.
Stick season is the time when all the leaves have fell in the fall but the snow has yet to come leaving the trees barren and looking like sticks.
Northern attitude by noah kahan great song
Your physical reaction and awareness of the lyrical meaning on this one is perfection. Thank you for this video! Such a wonderfully written piece of art 💫💜💫
One of THE BEST live shows I've ever seen was Noah Kahan. Dude is insanely talented.
Orange Juice, All My Love, and Come Over are some of his best.
Hey Fischtank we refer to is as the time after the beautiful leaves have finished turning and dropped, and before the first snow when the world is beautiful again. Stick season is almost upon us!
Stick season is the time in the Northeast after the leaves are gone by Thanksgiving and he’s drinking until Christmas waiting for all his college friends to come back home, including her.
I’m from New Hampshire and I can say stick season is a HARD time of year. Some people like it or aren’t too bothered but it is miserable to me. I always said I’d move somewhere warm but honestly the other seasons here make it so worth it. Extra vitamin D 🤷🏻♀️
This whole album is so good & the deluxe version too! Some of my other favorites are: Dial Drunk, The View Between Villages (extended version), Growing Sideways, Your Needs My Needs, Orange Juice, & Northern Attitude. I highly recommend the whole deluxe album really. Noah is a special talent!
I’m born and raised in VT (55 years) and I’d never heard it called ‘Stick Season’ either. But I learned it’s a thing. I heard this song for the first time this week- I love & agree with your reactions.
Love your reactions man, the best out there doing it! So glad you did Noah, would love to see your reaction to Orange Juice, it is every bit as good as Stick Season. Also our boy Nolan Taylor needs a nudge man, I think he’s on the verge of big things. Would love your reaction to Wichita.
Thank you sooo much, I appreciate you. Hopefully more Noah soon. If the copyright claims allow me. But thank you again bro.
Please do this whole album
I’ll try. It was pulling teeth to get this one uploaded cause copyright claims.
Even without looking through your channel I can tell your a musician haha. The way you 'feel' the tonality of the verses....watching as non musican it was a lot of fun.
His first album was the one that hooked me. “Mess” is another one that just paints such a clear picture of that slice of life moment. Noah Kahan is brilliant. He is a poet. I love this guy. He is one of the few musicians who cannot write a bad song. Even his worst song is brilliant. And, I know the lyrics to all of his songs. I’ve never memorized lyrics for every song an artist does, until now. He is just amazing. I can’t wait to see how big he’s gonna get!!
He got me hooked with the song "Maine"
“Anyway” from that album was another one that just grabbed on and would not let go. And, when he sang “Call Your Mom” at Red Rocks, I was not just crying, I was sobbing. He is so raw and honest, and his songs are so personal. I’ve seen him in concert 3 times now, and it has been so cool watching him come into his own as an artist. He was so awkward on stage the first time I saw him. Going from there to Red Rocks this summer and a world tour, and ACL?!? That was just amazing.
Yeah, it's the season when the snow melts but the trees are still bare. It's somehow always a bummer.
Northern Attitude by Noah is gas
While I agree with everyone that Stick Season (WABHF) is a fantastic deluxe album that you should listen to, I’d like to bring special interest to the song “Come Over.” While I don’t think it is his strongest vocally, I do think it is absolutely brilliant lyrically. He opens with some of the cleverest lines I have ever heard. I’d be really interested in you picking that song apart and seeing what you make of Noah’s incredible range and song-writing capabilities. The man is a born story teller.
NORTHERN ATTITUDE so underrated
Yesss! Noah the goat!!
Edit: I recommend his acoustic version of Orange Juice
noah kahan is amazing please listen to more of his stuff!
I tried to find a specific song but theres too many good ones his newest album is all hits
Love this , says so much. Love it more that I’m a Vermonter
Stick season is that space in late fall just before winter when the trees are empty of leaves, so you were close! usually first snow is mid-november. For us here in New England it's the opposite of mud season, when all the dirt roads turn to mud after the spring rains.
This song reminds me of an avalanche picking up speed as it comes down a mountain. Noah’s singing seems to get faster and faster and almost feels like it’s going to get ahead of the instrumentation and then he hits the chorus where things catch back up until the next verse. Such a talented singer/songwriter and musician.
Dial drunk is another one!
Stick season in Vermont is basically now (November); the time period after the beautiful leaves have fallen, but before the winter snows. "I LoVermont" was a popular t-shirt and bumper sticker about 10 years ago. This is a song about someone who stayed in their hometown, the girl has left, her mom doesn't recognize him anymore, and it's getting to be those cold rainy days before the snow or Christmas season and when friends come back from college/the bigger world outside Vermont (Boston, New York, anywhere else). All that's left of her is tire tracks and one pair of shoes.
I have watched more than a few reactions to this video and this is one of the few where someone is able to, based on the context clues, just figure out for themselves what Stick Season is, the pre-Holidays period where there are no leaves on the trees and everything is wet and dreary in New England. But then he goes the really long way around to take as literal the metaphor, "I see you when it rains" as in I have strong memories of you when it is raining, not you actually physically show up when the rains begin.
I absolutely love this song, but i’ve realized it’s a combo of songs and styles and artists I love.
The beatles- i’ve just seen a face
Paul simon- call me Al
Dallas Green/ city and color or whatever - the girl
should definitely do “ all my love” by noah kahan next
Orange juice by Noah is so good and underrated
i LOVE your commentary. nothing I've ever heard compares to Noah Kahan. I'm so glad someone else appreciates it and sees it the way I always have. thank you for this! i've needed it!
Your needs, my needs!
All his songs are fantastic. All of my Love is sooo underated
I love how just a few lines in you had to stop because “he’s saying so much!” 😂 I feel like every time I listen to one of his songs I pick up on a new incredible line that slipped by me before, it’s one of the best things about his music in my opinion
Been waiting for this one for awhile. Was worth the wait! Can’t go wrong with Kahan
..”you once called me forever….what a great lyricist/artist❤
I think the lyric,”Cause I see you when it rains” might have to do with the fact that it might’ve been her favorite kind of weather :) he mentions in another song what I think might be the same person with the lyric “you always said fall was your season” and fall can be pretty rainy :))))
I also interpreted it as their favorite kind of weather too
Been OBSESSED with this song since he teased it on soc!
"i'm terrified of weather because I see you when it rains" --- that gives me chills
The whole stick season album
I was today years old when I found out Noah Kahan and all his greatness. This reaction was my initial reaction tooo but less funny. I absolutely love this 😂
I love your reactions and your opinion on things
This song has been stuck in my head for the last week
Brilliant lyrics. Frickin brilliant.
You’re gonna go far is must listen!
You are for real the FIRST reaction channel I look for when I want to watch one. It is wonderful
About damn time!

More Noah please and thank you! ❤
Thank you for finally doing a reaction to Noah Kahan! I know you’ll be hooked and have many more reaction videos ❤❤❤
For sure :) i filmed this a long time ago but finally just got the copy right claim released. Hopefully i can do more in the future without copyright issues.
Noah is the freaking best.
Great reaction! Drunk dial is another good one
Love Noah Kahan! You should do Homesick as well.
Genius. Grammy!❤
The view between villages
FINNALLY! All my love next!!!
'im no longer funny cause i miss the way you laugh' gets me everytime
Interesting take. Subbed. Like you, I thought this dude was a excellent storyteller. He is a new fav for me that gives me faith in a new generation of musicians.
He’s a top tier artist. Animal is 🔥 so is god light
I love his song "Northern Attitude", especially the version featuring Hozier.
Call your mom is probably the most emotional song I’ve heard in awhile. You should give that one a listen.
FINALLY!!!!
Your gonna have to react too Your Wants My Needs.
Let’s goooo.
thanks for the explanation of the "afraid of the weather cause i see you when it rains" part. it was driving me mad.
you should listen to "Coal" by Dylan Gossett. Love your vids.
You have to listen to “Call Your Mom” it’s so emotional
In Vermont they call they call stick season the time between Halloween and when it snows
Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan is incredible
My favorite line that I don’t think you covered.
And I'll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have, but I did not lose
Noah Kahan is for the people
More Noah!
That many lyrics...'cause its straight up poetry.
New Englander here, stick season is that period of time when the leaves have fallen off the trees but before the snow comes. It’s gray, dreary, and blah.
stick season finally
Growing sideways is dense lyrically as well. And deep as fuck.
Local people have been saying he grew up a couple towns over from me and maybe dated someones mom that I know, I live in NH within walking distance of a bridge to VT
cool
