Oolongs Intensions with the Sleep Powder is like censored. In the Manga, Oolong didnt do this to steal the Dragon Balls - He just wanted to... touch bulma while she is asleep or even darker things. Yeah i think it's better they changed the plot, but Toriyama had naughty things in mind in 1984
The dub changes and censors alot because in Japanese i believe thats what oolong was going to do as well, the dub caters more to young kids.

The animes in 80s till early 90s were unregulated unless entering seinen teritory (usually Seinen for more mature audience 16+) , so the Shonen (boy) had many "erotic " ish scenes , it was also the era of experimentations especially with 3d at the time , which was only subtile and it didnt get in the way of hand drawn animation, the start of the "aesthetic" with a wide range styles.
Toriyama also lived in a time where people were more "unfiltered" , while today someone can be pissed for a remark and set it on social media , back then people would insult eachother , pick a fight and go home after , not bothering eachother anymore.

This is why Toriyama stated he didnt like how serious DBZ ended up being. He's always been a light hearted humor writer so DB is definitely the embodiment of him through and through.

@KineticSymphony Technically it was his editor and boss who suggested DBZ should be more dark and gritty. It kind of like it went in that direction cause I tend to like stories that can be dark and gritty cause it feels like you're watching a soap opera in that style.

A lot of men struggle with dating. Aside from the insane societal standards and expectations of males, trauma can be a factor. Mental or physical disorders could be a problem. I hate to say it because I respect him and his legacy so much, but Akira Toriyama used to make a lot of rape jokes. He had a one shot called Lady Red, the entire premise is a female crime fighter who's bad at her job that keeps getting sexually assaulted by the villains she's trying to stop. It all culminates in her deciding to be a prostitute instead of a hero so she can get paid for the sexual assault that seems to endlessly come her way. Bulma seems to have taken a lot from lady red, with the premise of her character getting constantly sa'd for comedy and eventually becoming desensitized to it, as we see at the end of the arc with pilaf. Not saying Toriyama is a rapist at all in any way btw, not trying to absorb all the hate comments lol

"This is not a kid's show." Well in Japan they have sex based game shows and you can still buy used panties in a vending machine though its more an online thing now so yeah. There all the popular supposed kid's shows don't really hold up any American network standard on content with some exceptions that don't get brought over. Dragon Ball is pretty raunchy but Naruto is too with the Sexy Jutsu and Jirairya. Both are meant for boys. Sailor Moon has lesbians and implied trans stuff. Is that more or less acceptable? Which also brings up the topic of what content is appropriate to show in any relationship. Kissing? Surely every kid sees that from birth. but frenching can be pretty lewd. Okay touching? What type and how far? Censored hand holding gif. The real questions should be "How old is person we are calling a kid ?" and "Does that match the levity and degree of lewd behavior?" The fact DB is playing everything up for jokes lowers its age of entry. It's groping which is an anime comedy trope. For some reason, America has always been very censorious around sex so its even more so when its a question of age appropriateness where we can go overboard. I know I was watching R rated films at 6 years of age so I might be skewed from people with more protective parents but me, PG means parental guidance for a reason. If you parents are present you know where the line is between fantasy and reality.
Japan's censorship comes in waves. Sexual stuff is more permissable. Violence is more censored. It's flipped in America. The 80s were actually more censored. The 90s it kind of opened up. 2000's ecchi was everywhere. They've toned it down in the 2020s slightly but its easily less more relaxed censorship compred to the 80s. I'm sitting here thinking of 80s shows and as far as sexual content I'd have to reference movies like Wicked City but then I'm like but Queen's Blade from 2007, Monster Musume from 2016, Prison School, Ikkitousen, and very soon I'm at 100 shows worse than anything put on Japanese tv in the 80s.This was aired Wednesday 7 pm on Fuji TV and is actually censored from the manga's content because there was more nudity. However that timeslot allowed the sexual humor, mild nudity, and eventual bloody fights without too much censorship in a way Super's Saturday morning slot did not. Though ask yourself what is and isn't a kid's show really. "Is Avatar The Last Airbender a kids show?" because mature subject matter is involved. Maybe that's more for 10 year olds than 6 year olds but 10 is most likely pre-pubescent still a kid not adolescent. If you say yes to Avatar then the "kid's show" line is pretty wide already.
