Hello Parents! I am a 24 year old with late diagnosed adhd and pretty bad executive functioning issues. I became so much better with medication and when I made it to college and switched into the major I loved. I graduated with a 3.6 despite literally no understanding from my parents other than dropping me off and getting me therapy. The fact that you are even here means so much to me and helps your son or daughter or nonbinary kid so much. I dream of having kids of my own someday and for me to give them the support I wish I had.

I use “overcome” to describe growing the abilities that are needed to navigate the dysfunction-obstacles associated with my cptsd. I am 2e.

THANK YOU!!! SELF Wellness (EMPATHY and VULNERABILITY) and CONNECTION (RELATIONSHIP) are not brain science because everyone knows what it feels like to be acknowledged and supported, and VALUED (their experience can bring teaching, learning, and understanding) AND IT IS BRAIN SCIENCE! Teach children about THEIR brain! Thank you for your Messaging and Tools! Please offer more on brain states and responses-that patterns of behavior AND TIME that will be required to get MINDS READY TO LEARN.

This was very helpful. As someone who has experienced both big T and little t trauma, it brought a lot of understanding to my own healing process around executive function capabilities. Thank you.

Hello seth! i’m 19 and i have just been diagnosed with adhd this has been very eye opening for me and i’ve been researching it so i could better understand myself. i just learned about twice exceptionality. (i’m gifted and adhd) i have had multiple big and little T traumas causing C-PTSD as well as depression and generalized anxiety disorder. transitioning from high school to college has been difficult to say the least and i never felt i had and adult there for me. trying to learn all of this as an adult is challenging but is necessary and even life changing. it’s really hard to find good videos to help me out (i get tired of reading scientific articles) so thanks for the good video

Thank you so much for your detailed and thorough descriptions of what executive function is and how it impacts students who struggle with it. I have been working with students with LDs as a tutor/peer mentor/instructional assistant for the last few years and I have always struggled to understand what EF is and how the students I work with are impacted. I am currently working on my teaching credential (mild/mod specialization) and your videos will definitely help me be a better educator.

Thanks Seth, this video will help the teachers I work with to understand how to meet the needs of students so that they can be enabled to access the curriculum.

Super interesting Seth. I always thought of big T trauma even though I've read books about little t trauma. For some reason the way you explained it flipped a switch in my head.

Another aspect of income is that scarcity of any kind worsens executive function. Definitely including poverty and food scarcity, even dieting when you have a full pantry at home. Most obviously it preoccupies our mind just as much as a physical threath like a lion, which obviously interferes with learning. But unexpedtedly it also worsens our decision making and problem solving, so that being poor itself makes you more likely to make poor desicions and not see solutions to your problems.

Any suggestions for adults struggling with executive function after starting to work on past trauma?

Hi Seth! I had never even heard of 2E until I mistakenly stumbled across you. We have tried to figure out for the last several years why our highly academic child suddenly couldn’t get it done anymore once they got to middle school. My question though is what causes these kids, teens to struggle with executive function?
