✅ ABOUT
I'm Seth of SethPerler.com, and I create free videos to help parents & professionals help students who struggle with homework, motivation, grades, focus, study skills, time management, organization & overwhelm, so they can build a happy & successful future, despite outdated educational norms.
I'm a recovering “lazy failure” of a student, and former teacher turned Executive Function Expert Nerd. I help misunderstood kids learn how awesome they are, while creating breakthroughs to help change their trajectory
 for good.
And I can’t wait to show you how! I teach parents and educators how to use my non-traditional, yet practical approaches to help kids boost EF skills.
And I get it firsthand because I’ve been there, and have helped tens of thousands of parents and teachers learn what works, despite all the outdated educational fluff floating around.
✅ HATS I WEAR
I wear a lot of hats in the Executive Function, ADHD, 2e, ASD, and Neurodiversity worlds:

Cookie-cutter approaches don't work.
To help outside-the-box, neurodiverse kids, we need the right tools.
Traditional interventions often fail because they don't get to the ROOT of the problem.
So patterns get WORSE each year, leading to pervasive difficulties transitioning into adulthood.
Let's do this RIGHT.

Kind of an assholy move to start the video saying that because of some external reason he will be an ass to the rest of us? Also I’m the adult looking for a tip or two for myself and never once had a parent noticing anything as I was a child (they weren’t much around) nor I have children so
if this is about adults why talk about children
 not cool 🙄

Have some times and places where we lean in to our ADHD. I have days where I'm tied to a clock, have appointments, have more strict obligations. But I also have days where I just unplug from that and let the ADHD be the boss. Enjoy life, play, “oh belongs in the other room!” And “oh, look a squirrel!” Masking stinks. Trying to pretend our brains are wired in a neurotypical fashion is exhausting and drains all creativity. Instead of “what do I need to do today?” have some “what do I want to do right now?” times.

Having ADHD was something I wasn’t really conscious of most of my life. I was good at learning in school and was always very social. It wasn’t until I got older and started seeing the negative consequences, that I started learning more about the disorder. I’m really wanting to use natural methods to help me function and grow, and meditation seems to be something a lot of people use. This video was helpful in the fact that you made it clear that even when you lose focus or should I say, refocus on other things, that it’s ok and to just try to be mindful and bring your thoughts back. Takes a lot of stress and anxiety away from it bc it no longer feels like you failed. Good job.

Yeah no resistance here this is my go to method for everything lol. I just have one issue. How do you do that with a project you're working on in order to organize it. Or like...how do you do it with 5 projects all at once? Or with just the inside of your head?? And then what about like...I struggle with getting to work on time not just cuz my stuff isn't organized. My morning routine isn't organized either. My time isn't organized. Because on the daily I'm dealing with one terrible symptom or another. One morning it's attention regulation. The next morning it's time blindness. I have zero working memory ever so forget making multiple plans to adjust. I won't remember them anyway. And then what about PDA? Where I literally want to do the thing but my brain literally rebels until I stop? That was a lot of questions 😂

I have a daughter who is 2e and had a teacher last year (year 3), that was exactly as you described in your video. This has done immense damage to my daughters love of learning, and self concept. At one point we asked my daughter, when you call out, is it because you don't understand the question or is it because you know the answer? what is it that makes it hard for you to wait. Her answer was "I know the answer straight away and put my hand up and look around and no one else has their hand up yet, and I try and wait for her to pick me. Then I call out the answer because I just want the teacher to know that I know the answer so she will like me." She spent the entire year feeling that the teacher hated her (her words) because she never felt seen or acknowledged. She now has an automatic expectation that teachers don't like her. Luckily, we have an amazing class teacher that is working really hard to build trust and a relationship with her. It really goes to show how much harm and impact one teacher can have on your child.

When I was dignosed at 11 we were told "ADHD is a learning disability that goes away in adulthood so just wait it out." The general consensus was that we needed to practice these skills so when we became adults we could do them. My Asperger's was considered a social learning disabilty that could be mostly overcome.

My 8 year old kicks holes in walls all the time. We've tried all these things, with the result that my kiddo got thrown out of therapy for trying to kick the walls there. I don't think talk therapy works for kids whose memory is so bad (ADHD) that they can't remember coping skills or consequences, regardless of how much practice is done.
