6:16 when Wyper finds out that Luffy has a relation to Noland's descendents and understands his motivation, and realizes that they're allies.. is one of the most beautiful scenes in One Piece to this day. Then you see the snake realizing too, and it starts crying... Dayum.. Gives me chills every time. The soundtrack too is absolutely perfect for the scene.

You're missing the point, kind of. The resolution is not defeating Enel, it is to ring in the end of an age of deceit and oppression, to usher in a new age. The pay off is to see a long dark history be illuminated, and to let the light shone down on everyone who was in darkness. Those being the shandians and skypeans, as well as closing the book on the history of Calgara and Noland.
Luffy is not defeating a villain, he is closing a chapter in the land's history. That is why the flashbacks are there, the resolution goes beyond just defeating Enel, it is the death and rebirth of history. Enel held them underfoot, yes, but the evils festering in the land were not made by him, nor would simply his defeat heal it. The bell tolled as a signal of the defeat of the past and the present.

@@SoTOreo The message of the arc IS the important stuff, that's sort of One Piece's big thing. If it's just fightfightfight then next fightfightfight you want, then One Piece is not the anime for you. Beating the big bad in context hits different than just beating up a bully who was mean and in the way for some reason.

You kinda missed the whole point of the arc. Defeating Enel was part of it sure, but the true climax of the Skypiea saga (jaya and Skypiea) was the ringing of the bell. It was the fulfillment of the promise between the two legendary figures of both Noland and Calgara through their descendants. With Luffy acting as a bridge between the two. And it also marked the end or rather a turning point in the hostile relations between the Skypieans and the Shandians.
Enel is also pretty interesting as an arc antagonist. The only reason anyone could bring him down was because Luffy's fruit was the natural counter to his own. A specific elemental weakness like Crocodile had to water in Alabasta. Oda has even stated that if Enel had a bounty it would be over 500 million Beri.
One thing to note is that One Piece is a story that is designed to be read over and over again. So Oda often saves certain reveals or information till the end of an arc. Or even way further down the line.

the anime version of skypeia is widely panned by most people. while the manga version has some of the biggest supporters in one piece.
the pacing is a big deal as you've noticed. it literally IS padding as the episode is released once a week, apadting less and less total chapters per episode. the anime has many advantages unique to its medium, but I ultimately prefer the manga due to its more natural pacing. A page or two pages of character cuts for the final hit does not feel that bad when it's reminding you of something you might have read a while ago.

One distinction Oda made regarding his world in the original "Romance Dawn" pilot that you may find interesting is the two kinds of pirates: "Morganeers" and "Peace Main" pirates.
While Morganeers are traditional pirates who pillage and plunder, Luffy and others like him are of the Peace Main variety; they make their living purely off of taking down Morganeers and benefiting from the goodwill bestowed upon them by those they save in the process. Just a cool little detail that I think really helps flesh out the nature of the One Piece world a bit.

I'm sure you've been told a thousand times, but the next batch of "filler" is worth watching and reacting to. I've seen video essays on "How to do Anime filler right", using this as a prime example. It's hard to suggest stuff to watch or skip without spoiling or building up expectations too high, but this is an exception I'm certain tons of viewers want to see.
If you know episode ranges for the filler in advance, I suggest asking a trusted friend to tell you whether it's something to react to or not. It's truly the best way, as polls can be unreliable when fans are so passionate. I'd still recommend watching filler even if you don't post videos, as there are the occasional bits of interesting lore sprinkled at random (like the Calm Belt stuff from the Millenium Dragon arc).
As an alternative to posting reaction videos for "bad" filler, maybe you could do a summary/recap of what you thought coming out of the filler. First half of a video if it's juicy, or a couple minute recap if it was truly forgettable. I feel like you did a short recap for one of them and I liked it, definitely feels better than completely skipping past and not acknowledging it.

In regards to your story progress; In the manga, after Skypiea, there is a little palette cleanser arc leading into one of the great sagas of One Piece.
In the anime they made a filler(anime-only) arc after Skypiea, that is surprisingly good. Then they go to the palette cleanser arc but the anime doubles the length of it with padding and added anime-only plot. All-in-all the anime then more than triples that "palette-cleanser" moment and it really destroys the story pacing. Get through it however you can, skipping is an option. I really appreciate your honest reaction of liking and disliking certain things.
Usually the things you dislike are incredibly valid and insightful criticisms that I may not have considered.
The perspective you approach your analysis and critique is unique and that's why I watch it.
For example explaining your problems with the Nolan flashback boiled down to 3 main issues of Timing, Pacing, and The way they told the story.
All of those are valid criticisms especially about the exposition and explanation as opposed to action.
And if that takes away from your enjoyment just like the reject dial thing, that is perfectly valid. I personally might not notice or care about some of the things, but some of the stuff does make me reevaluate my interpretation.
Also the fact that you are so focused on the character growth works great.
I think that's something I noticed subconsciously but your analysis brings it to the forefront of my mind and makes me appreciate it more.
When you analyze the animation and presentation and how the animators set things up, it is also really interesting.
I guess I like that you analyze the HOW part of what makes the story work and not work instead of just saying you like or dislike stuff.

Alright, I am back and I have to say I am glad I decided to give this another chance after taking your advice and skipping the last one. I don't know, for some reason the reaction to the flashback felt so off and different from what you usually do, it really pissed me off. But with this one it was way better again, the critique was better articulated and understandable. I think what sometimes makes the experience of watching you less enjoyable is when you get too stuck on something small you don't like and then it feels like you're too busy with that one thing you kinda not pay attention to what else is happening, which in return makes it seem like you don't really care about the show anymore and are just in for mindless ranting, when in the past I always had the impression you were more genuine/authentic and not just ranting to piss people off. That really went overboard during the flashback (at least the part I watched), but with this video I thought it was improving again. I'll stay for a bit, don't expect you to like Long Ring Long Island (even though I myself just reread it and found it hilarious, even though it didn't add much to the story). In addition to killing the momentum, they also made sure, that sometimes the one singular episode you got in a week had very little new plot in it. And it absolutely could be done so much better, like flashing to the people after the bell is rung, with it's sound underlining the gravity this symbolic act has. I care that much, tbh. The Noland backstory is one of the most emotionally draining to me because it doesn't have a happy end for anyone in it. Nami's backstory is awful and sad, but at least she's happy now. She, her sister, and the whole village are free now. Same for everyone else's backstory.
Meanwhile, Noland and Calgara will never find out what happened to the other. They both died with regrets and both left their descendants with the sort of legacy that overshadowed their whole lives. Luffy ringing the bell for Noland's descendant and with Wyper's blessing is thematically beautiful, but it doesn't negate the tragedy of Noland's and Calgara's story.
(I'm not particularly bothered by Nerdy's dislike of the backstory, though. Mostly I'm just surprised because I really didn't see it coming.)

@@tin.3308 In retrospect, I quite like this backstory. This is one of the few tragedies we see in One Piece. However, I think that in order to fully appreciate it, one needs to know where it leads, including the bell scene.

The padding only gets worse, which is definitely a problem with the medium as compared to a problem with the show. These releases are weekly shows based on weekly mangas. A lot of the flashes to the other people and past are single panels that could maybe fit in a single page. That, in addition to how long some of the arc becomes, it's cheaper to make still panel shots to fill up the time on what would otherwise be a maybe 5 minute animation for the week. Plus, they will have to wait for the plot of the manga to develop before more episodes could be made, hence the filler and drag.
There are many iconic moments that get tons of rewatch and views, but also many many episodes people skip over when watching or rewatching.
Personally, I think the take for mont blanc is very valid. I also felt unattached to the backstory of mont blanc when I first read it in the 2000s, but reading back and tying in native American history as well as just lots of foreshadowing and imagery done in this arc made it a lot more entertaining and intriguing.

Skypia's issues get addressed as the story progresses. At the time it was released, people hated the pacing and the placement of the backstory was criticized back in the day. The Montblanc flashback has a different payoff later on in the story, which is why so many people who are caught up will tell you that it's great.
I love the arc for what it is, but it's nowhere close to being my favorite. At the time, I enjoyed at least one arc that people really hate more than this.

One of his favorite fights is choppers, the most whimsical of the arc. I can understand if you hate his takes, but at least hate those and not something you just made up.

I'm gonna say something really unpopular and suggest you skip the filler arc that's coming up.
It's probably the best filler arc! And I think you'd enjoy it in general but given what you do and don't vibe with and given how Toei handled the next canon arc, I think you'd enjoy things more if you went straight to the canon arc (and skipping the filler there too).
If you do watch the filler arc, maybe consider watching movie 6 as a palate cleanser right after? Something to put a break between the filler and canon arc.

yeah the pacing is always bad in the show, thank toei for that, a lot of weird reaction cuts that go on for way too long, and random pacing problems. Buckle in, it gets worse at times. I hope it gets remade to because it really throws people away from the show at times. The animators are very talented but the anime would likely be cut in half without all the pacing BS.
